That cross is based on one that is actually located at one of the battlefields in Belgium, and the inscription is nearly identical. The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of the most remarkable moments in human history, and Sabaton did an incredible job paying tribute to it.
you are correct about the cross....it is here in belgium where i live...it is in Ypres to be pecise.....the words on the cross are there.....Sabaton is the greatest war history teacher in the world....
In 2014, Sabaton began work on this song. They are obsessed with being factual. It took them 7 years to complete it. They wanted to "get it right". They tell stories. They don't pick sides or slant the view either way. Politicians start wars. Soldiers fight those wars. "We were all friends." This is not just a Christmas song. It is a year round message. The wailing and screaming guitar gives me chills and tears. Floor singing the outro is as much a part of the song as the beginning battle. She soothes the soul, gives closure to a heartfelt song. If not for that, it would have felt incomplete.
One of the main reasons it took 7 years is because it just didn't fit into any of their albums or themes at the time. They have several songs that got delayed for years because of that.
Their songs are written about real people and events from military history. More to try from them: Bismarck (sinking of the German Battleship in WWII), Soldier of Heaven (White Friday avalanches on the Italian front in WWI), or the animated video for Night Witches (Russian WWII 588th all female night bomber regiment) I'm sure someone probably told you when they recommended this band, but if they didn't, the drummer (Hannes Van Dahl) is married to Nightwish frontwoman Floor Jansen.
@hris O - Those are all excellent choices to introduce Sabaton to someone new to the band. 👏 Just one is missing in my opinion: No Bullets Fly (animated Yarnhub video). 🤘
This epic song was filmed in my country in August 2021 🤗 btw Floor at the end sounds heavenly 😍🎩 and Joakim ( singer) is 1/2 Czech, couse his mother was coming to Sweden from Czechoslovakia and his grandmother is living in Prague 🇨🇿 greetings from Czech Republic 🇨🇿🙏
Great reaction! The Christmas Truce of 1914 is an actual historical event. It was also the only one of its kind to ever happen a true Christmas Miracle. Late night on Christmas eve 1914 the weapons fell silent, and the Germans were heard from across the battlefield singing Christmas Carol's. After that the two armies sang Carol's back and forth to each other, and some soldiers even came out of hiding and met on no man's land talked, and celebrated the holiday together. There was even a friendly game of soccer between the two armies. When the battle commenced both sides wouldn't fire at each other or intentionally missed their targets and as a result many were punished, and moved to different areas and to this day specific attacks are planned on holidays to prevent this from ever happening again. The last person from the war that was there for the Christmas truce died in 2005 at the age of 109 in Belgium.
Can't wait till you react to this song 👍. You should know it's a true story what really happened on 1914 between the English and German troops. I love Sabaton !!!! . Very talented Power Metal Band. They too are a Swedish band. All of their songs and videos are absolutely top class. See you tomorrow and have fun 😀🤟🌹❤️
If you like songs with historical background you're gonna love Sabaton! I think you will love the song Night Witches. A small fact is Hanes the drummer is married to Floor Jansen who vocalised the end of this song.
Yes Joakim, sings with rolling R's, he have explained that the reason for this is that when he sings he can stretch the lenght of the sentence so it matches the verse, making it easier for him to make the sentences work/rhyme/fit together. Simply by adding some more "R's". I hope this makes sense it can be a little difficult to explain it in text.
True story. There are also photos from the football match. Probably not so paid attention to the end credits. 😉 Floor Jansen (Nightwish) was mentioned. She sang the end credits. She is also married to Hannes (drummer) of Sabaton. This is the one who got out of the trench first.
Hello Bisscute, Sabaton is a very great band and this song is absolute a masterpiece with an epic ending. The contribution of Floor Jansen at the end is a cherry on a cake. And she did that before with the songs Ghost Love Score and Shoemaker where she added by herself the endparts with her own touch. GLS you commented before and I also would recommend to do Shoemaker on your playlist on this channel.
They are a great band just musically, but their storytelling and to strictly adhering to historical facts bring them on another another (intentionally) level.
Sabaton is from Sweden. They always write about historical events. Hannes Van Dahl the drummer (the blonde guy in the german side) is actually Floor Jansen husband, and she sings in the ending credits Try No Bullets Fly (animated story) next
The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. It was a real event, taking place roughly five months after the start of WWI. It was not one official truce, but multiple smaller truces all along primarily the Western Front between British and German units. The popular story goes that the British could hear the Germans singing Stille Nacht and then started to sing along with Silent Night. Afterwards, men entered into No Man's Land to exchange gifts, play soccer, hold mass, and bury the dead. Some truces lasted up to New Years, while there were some spots where the war persisted.
Tommy Johansson the guitarist has his own band `Majestica` next Christmas I highly recommend listening to the entire `Christmas Carol ` album by them, it`s a masterpiece. Other than that `Above the Sky` is well worth a listen.
Nice reaction, I would love to see you react to when they did En livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg 2020. It is the Swedish version of you song so you might want to be sure the subtitles are one (even though they are a bit of a hit and a miss on some of the translations) I was there and it was simply an amazing show.
The fact that this is based on real events really adds to the emotional impact. I get emotional everytime I watch this music video I can't imagine how hard it must have been for the soldiers to go back to fighting each other after sharing a moment of peace and friendship.
Yes it was WWI, and you are right: soldiers will say "I shoot at a target, not at a person - I would be a murderer." Sabaton has succeeded in letting us feel this. So, indeed, a masterpiece.

Hannas (drummer for Sabaton) is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish. He was the first guy to come out the trench (guy with the blonde hair). Yes that was Floor Jansen singing during the credits. Don't worry most people reacting to this song miss it to. A few of my friends with their channels picked up on her immediately (recognized her voice) and later seeing her name towards the end of the credits. Great post & reaction Bisscute! Yes, this was an actual event at the 1st Christmas of World War 1, in 1914. (It never happened again during this war). There are two monuments to this miracle. The Cross actually exists near Ypres, Belgium and the is another in Liverpool, UK (depicting two opposing soldiers kicking a ball). Note that the Soldiers called this truce, not the leaders at the "High Command". The High Command of the time, in fact, made sure that it never happened again. There are many research references to the event on line should you want to look for information. Please keep posting as your reactions are priceless. TC.
Bisscute Hello, and you’re correct, The Christmas Truce is the Sabaton song based on the true story of the spontaneous Christmas truce of 1914, the first year of the First World War, at the time called The Great War, later The War to End all Wars; after months of continuing hardships, on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day all across the western line, the Germans, British, Scots, and French soldiers and captains put aside their weapons and came out of their trenches with food and drinks to celebrate Christmas in peace and harmony, they had the Christmas service, buried their dead, wrote letters home, and even had a good game of football aka soccer ⚽️, a few were able to kept the peace to New Year’s Day. Sadly, didn’t last, nor be repeated till after 1918
Hi Biscute! Awesome New Arch Enemy track and video 'Handshake With Hell' released just recently. Must be the best new song by anyone so far this year! Cheers - Take Care!
In some parts of the trenches the truce lasted several weeks. Yes it's a song about the Christmas truce of WW1. It's a very heartlifting story and I encourage you to dig into it.
Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars, but hey don't glorify war whatsoever. They will be releasing their 10th studio album on March 4th 2022. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's TH-cam safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken) If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Bismarck, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
Fun Fact: Hannes, their drummer (who gets blown up in the beginning) is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish. He is Swedish, she is Dutch, and they live a quiet life in a beautiful country side of Sweden with their young daughter, dogs, cats and horses. The beautiful operatic voice over the end credits is her.
At the end of the day we are all human and I wish we could focus more on what unites us instead of what separates us, that's my hope for the future, Powerful song
I dont comment often, but your reaction and your way of thinking of not only the band but allsaw the people in the background.. thats impressive. For being so young you really have a well placed heart and eyes for detales. Sorry spelling..i have dyslexia . And this band is from my country and i have meet them . they are humble guys.
Dear Bisscute, you honestly deserve each 'Like' you receive for your reaction(s). Like you I consider this a masterpiece and I did not mind my eyes watering. Its based upon a historical fact from WW1 and shows that even in most cruel times humanity does not vanish completly. What a message right now. Thanks to you and best wishes to all friends in Romania and for all your neighbors currently in danger. Stay well 🙏
did you recognize the vocalist's voice at the end? is from Floor Jansen, wife of Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of Sabaton's band 😉 please, for next Sabaton song try react to "no bullets fly" th-cam.com/video/dslO-3GgenY/w-d-xo.html like this one is from a true story and to be watched to the end
Yes is realy happened. Love your reactions and emotions that are sincere 'that makes it beautiful to listen to and look at you because you are sincere and real.to see your beautiful humanity reacting to you is nice .and you have a beautiful sweet beautiful accent 'is really beautiful to listen to❤🤘🤘🥰
yes this event actually indeed happend, the night before it was noted in a war diary that the Germans, Austria Hungarian, British, scottish and french were all singing o holy night and in the morning they emerged from the trenches drinking, playing football and exchanging gifts. of course when news got out about it the higher ups were furious cause it happend under their noses without their command, the day after was awkward since neither side wanted to fight because they just made new friends and neither side could bring themselves to do it. so the higher ups had to replace the battalions in those sectors to fix the issue.
Oh, you noticed the tree? Good! First reactionist who saw it. Symbolic blowing up of the piano, no more truce after that incident. What a production. Give credit for all the trench builders! So this will become the best and most played Christmas song ever.
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
Good reaction! Sabaton is a Swedish band and pretty much all their songs are about true stories and historic events. If you like history or would like to know more about what the songs are about they have a Sabaton history channel that are great! Here is a Sabaton rabbit hole in no particular order :) SABATON - The Red Baron (Live - The Great Tour - Berlin) SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg)
Sabaton is a Swedish band. The chrismas truce happened in 1914 when allies and central powers (just Germany) came together to celebrate Christmas the troops exchanged photos of families, chocolate, champagne and cigarettes, barbers gave hair cuts, they had ceremonies to bury the dead and of course play a game of football which I'm pretty sure the Germans won. The Pope wanted the soldiers to have a truce for Christmas every year but the national leaders rejected it so the soldiers had an unofficial truce and it was the one and only truce. All the events seen in this video I'd all true.
the coolest way to learn history right here with Sabaton, just an FYI Floor Jansen's (from Nightwish) Husband was the guy and the grenade, also they have a History Channel that does a deep dive into all their songs so when you hear a song and want to know more about the history of it go to their history channel
Sabaton has a channel where they deal with the background of all their history based songs, Sabaton history channel, looking there you can find out much more about what they are portraying
Christmas is approaching, the soldiers feel that they have had enough of fighting and would like to forget about it for a moment. It is December 24, 1914, the British and Germans go out unarmed into No Man's Land to... play a football match. Absolute fact.
Sabaton sing about historical war events. Every song is a history lesson. This is from their next album about the WW1 (the second album about this topic they make). The Christmas Truce happen december 24 of 1914 when in all the Western Front, soldiers stop fighting, against the orders of their officers. They only want a day of peace in all that hell.
Ohh Yes Bisscute!!!!! More Sabaton from you please! It was very nice and interesting reaction from you! Where are you from....interesting that you , just like Joakim Brodén the singer, roll your "R:s" :-) I like it! Greetings from the province of Dalarna in Sweden - Home of Sabaton
@@BisscuteReacts The band Sabaton is from the city of Falun in Sweden. They have their own festival there ...its a very pleasant festival in the summertime - Sabaton Open Air (I have been there twice) with people from all over the world!
Yes this actually happened in World War 1. The long haired blonde guy that got blown up by the grenade and was the first guy to come out is Hannes Van Dahl drummer of Sabaton, and husband of Floor Jansen that sang the beautiful ending during the credits.
Sabaton *White Death* (Belaya Smerth) Finnish Simo Häyhä "Deadliest sniper in military history" (7-800 kills in 100 days in winter war Finland-Sovjet 1039-40 ! and/or *Soldier of 3 Armys* "Lauri Törni/Larry Thorne". John Wayne playd Larry in movie "Green Barrets".
Good job , I thought you would know the voice at the end but you didn't catch it . The blond haired guy that got knocked out and the 1st to exit the trench was the drummer of the band Hannes Van Dahl he is Floor Jansen's husband and the voice at the credits at the end was his wife Floor.
Sabaton is the best Swedish power/heavy metal band of all time 🤘😎 Just be prepared, if you go down this rabbit hole you will find many many cute little bunnies. Correct me if im wrong but is Bisscute part Japanese? If she is Sabaton has made a song about the last samurai called Shiroyama. If that is of interest!? 😊
This is a very true story 😔. This is our home 🙏❤️ we have to find a way to live in peace. Then again...the word peace would not exist if it wasn't for war. We have to come around it and find a way to live as earthlings. 🙏❤️ It's our home !!!

Nightwish Army Northern Germany greets the Sabaton family. "24. December 1914: Late on Christmas Eve, the British Expeditionary Force heard the German troops singing Christmas carols in the trenches opposite and saw lanterns and small Christmas trees along the trenches. Messages were shouted to each other between the trenches. The next day, British and German soldiers met and exchanged gifts, took photos and some even played soccer. It was a rare but magical moment of peace and harmony in the midst of one of the most gruesome events of the 20th century. "

Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's TH-cam safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken)
If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these:
(These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use)

and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
I love to se your facial emotions.
Good reaction!
Much Love💙💛💙
At the end of the day we are all human and I wish we could focus more on what unites us instead of what separates us, that's my hope for the future, Powerful song
I dont comment often, but your reaction and your way of thinking of not only the band but allsaw the people in the background.. thats impressive. For being so young you really have a well placed heart and eyes for detales. Sorry spelling..i have dyslexia . And this band is from my country and i have meet them . they are humble guys.
FLOOR JANSEN SING THE END VOCALS OF sabatons Chrismas Truce Floor is Married with the Sabaton Drammer Hannes van Dahl 🤘🤘🤘
Beautiful song, video, and reaction.
Stay well 🙏
Wonderful reaction to this song. You may want to also review Bismark from Sabaton.
did you recognize the vocalist's voice at the end? is from Floor Jansen, wife of Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of Sabaton's band 😉

I was looking forward to this one. I'm happy you liked it too.
I definitely do, amazing lyrics ❤️
Thanks fore the sabaton reaction soo good
yes this event actually indeed happend, the night before it was noted in a war diary that the Germans, Austria Hungarian, British, scottish and french were all singing o holy night and in the morning they emerged from the trenches drinking, playing football and exchanging gifts. of course when news got out about it the higher ups were furious cause it happend under their noses without their command, the day after was awkward since neither side wanted to fight because they just made new friends and neither side could bring themselves to do it. so the higher ups had to replace the battalions in those sectors to fix the issue.
Oh, you noticed the tree? Good! First reactionist who saw it. Symbolic blowing up of the piano, no more truce after that incident. What a production. Give credit for all the trench builders!
So this will become the best and most played Christmas song ever.
I did when I was very very little My grandma used to have a tree like this
Good reaction! Please do some more Sabaton! :D
More to come
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
Good reaction!
Sabaton is a Swedish band and pretty much all their songs are about true stories and historic events. If you like history or would like to know more about what the songs are about they have a Sabaton history channel that are great!
Here is a Sabaton rabbit hole in no particular order :)
SABATON - The Red Baron (Live - The Great Tour - Berlin)
SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg)
Sabaton is a Swedish band. The chrismas truce happened in 1914 when allies and central powers (just Germany) came together to celebrate Christmas the troops exchanged photos of families, chocolate, champagne and cigarettes, barbers gave hair cuts, they had ceremonies to bury the dead and of course play a game of football which I'm pretty sure the Germans won. The Pope wanted the soldiers to have a truce for Christmas every year but the national leaders rejected it so the soldiers had an unofficial truce and it was the one and only truce. All the events seen in this video I'd all true.
Its such impressive that we get to learn historical Facts using music , I simply Love it
the coolest way to learn history right here with Sabaton, just an FYI Floor Jansen's (from Nightwish) Husband was the guy and the grenade, also they have a History Channel that does a deep dive into all their songs so when you hear a song and want to know more about the history of it go to their history channel
Sabaton has a channel where they deal with the background of all their history based songs, Sabaton history channel, looking there you can find out much more about what they are portraying
Glorious that you finally jumped in!!
It was about time
the guy with the long blonde hair is Hannes, Floor Jansen's (Nightwish) husband...Floor sings the ending credits and it's beautiful!!!
"LEST WE FORGET" - Nothing more to say about this and every other war (by a former soldier engaged three times in the war in Afghanistan).
Note the voice of Floor Jansen (Nightwish) at the end credits. Another recommended Sabaton songs: Bismarck, To Hell and Back, Fields Of Verdun.
This song is about a true story, all brothers and friends for a day.
Christmas is approaching, the soldiers feel that they have had enough of fighting and would like to forget about it for a moment. It is December 24, 1914, the British and Germans go out unarmed into No Man's Land to... play a football match.
Absolute fact.
I am Infantry, and this is a tear puller every time no shame. Humanities Highest Acheivment, followed by its lowest, so tragical.
End part singing was Floor Jansen Biscute :D
You really should react to Sabaton history video about the Christmas truce. It explains what happened and how the song came about
Sabaton sing about historical war events. Every song is a history lesson. This is from their next album about the WW1 (the second album about this topic they make). The Christmas Truce happen december 24 of 1914 when in all the Western Front, soldiers stop fighting, against the orders of their officers. They only want a day of peace in all that hell.
Great song to react to.
Yes it did happen , 8 miles south of Ypres where my grandfather fought was gassed and was captured
Oh I am Romanian , where is he from ?
@@BisscuteReacts The band Sabaton is from the city of Falun in Sweden. They have their own festival there ...its a very pleasant festival in the summertime - Sabaton Open Air (I have been there twice) with people from all over the world!
SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg)
No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video) is one of the best from Sabaton
Yes this actually happened in World War 1. The long haired blonde guy that got blown up by the grenade and was the first guy to come out is Hannes Van Dahl drummer of Sabaton, and husband of Floor Jansen that sang the beautiful ending during the credits.
"Its war themed", yeah you'll notice that ALOT with Sabaton
Thanks, welcome to Sabaton
Sabaton is the best Swedish power/heavy metal band of all time 🤘😎
Just be prepared, if you go down this rabbit hole you will find many many cute little bunnies.
Correct me if im wrong but is Bisscute part Japanese? If she is Sabaton has made a song about the last samurai called Shiroyama. If that is of interest!? 😊
I am not
The animated music videos are a must also Bismarck and Soldier of Heaven. Also great reaction.
Very nice reaction Bisscute. Closing vocals by Floor Jansen.
This band is amazing and historically correct
great reaction as always :)
Thank you ❤️
@@BisscuteReacts no ty 4 the great reactions u did .
a song that goes well with this is the Pentatonix cover .. Imagine (Beatles song) .. captures the spirit of what is going on here ..
This is a very true story 😔. This is our home 🙏❤️ we have to find a way to live in peace. Then again...the word peace would not exist if it wasn't for war. We have to come around it and find a way to live as earthlings. 🙏❤️ It's our home !!!
🤘❤Sabaton's drumer Hannes Van Dahl is married to Nightwish's singer Floor jansen❤🤘
hi bisscute great song by sabaton as some one else mentioned the drummer is maried to floor jansen allso towards the end a women sings that is floor singin also this is a true part of history it happened in no mans land in 1914 on christmas day and a english speakin solider who could speak german started singin a christmas song in german and hence the true story of wot happened
it started the day before xmas the Germans shouted tomorrow we no shoot , you no shoot, and on christmas eve the Germans started to sing Stille nacht ( Holy Night) and soon the brits started to sing to , soone the met in no mans land the germans brought Beer the Brits Whiskey and soon the started to play fotballs as well the protocol can still be seen to this day in a small Museum near by.By the way the outro is performed by Floor Jansen(Nightwish)who is Married to Sabatons Drummer Hannes van Dahl
Thank you for this comment ❤️
the female voice you hear at the end is Floor's, her husband is drummer with Sabaton, excellent reaction little one, Sabaton is an excellent band
Loves Rammstein n Sabaton...she in that rabbit hole same as I...she got great ears.
You have great taste ❤️
Great video... you are one of the few who can do those reactions. They are a joy to watch and you have a cute accent too :) be sure to listen to their guitarist TOMMY JOHANSSON - You Raise Me Up (1 Octave Challenge) you will love it
Every Sabaton song is about an actual historical event. Try the animated (long!) video for Night Witches next.
It's a true story. After this happened, they shifted people around on the front lines and didn't let it happen again, sadly.
Did you know, that Floor Janzen from Knightwish, is marriet to the drummer from Sabaton?
