Most soldiers who took part in this truce had to be depkoyed to other parts of the front. They couldn't kill the people they met as friends during the truce.
yeah and it was not an official truce, it was a Christmas phenomena, some might even call it a miracle, as the artillery took their Christmas break on some parts of the western front, and the soldiers celebrated Christmas in their tranches, singing the same carols like "O Holy Night", their religious traditions brought them together and as no mans land was no longer hit by artillery fire some soldiers went out and met there, they shared gifts and sang together, even had a small football game. After the HQs of both sides were informed, they ordered that if the war will be still going on next Christmas, that the cannons wont be silent again, taking away the opportunity for another "unofficial Christmas Truce", and as you already mentioned most of those soldiers that took part in the truce had to be relocated to other parts of the front as they did not wanted to shoot at their new won friends.
After this happened the Russians tried to start a truce on the eastern front on Easter. The issue is Easter isn't at the same time in the Russian and the German calendars so it never happened.😢
