- Will It Rally? This new web series from The Team O'Neil Rally School asks the only car question that really matters: Will it Rally? Ride along as we test the limits of different vehicles on our snow and ice covered skidpad and slalom areas, before putting them against the stopwatch on a mountainous rally stage here at Team O'Neil.
In this episode, we take out one of the most common vehicles in the world, The Toyota Corolla. Known for it's reliability and popularity for daily commuters, one thing is uncertain... Will it Rally?

Not as good as the Honda Fit, everyone sleeps on the fit but they are great cars. Check out the Gears and Gasoline episode with the Fit that they set up for wheel to wheel.

That is how I would get to work everyday in a Renault 5 and a Plymouth Sundance RS in the early '90s. :) Disclaimer: I was working night shift in the backcountry with no one else on the road except for a guy in a Suzuki Samurai that was also rallying it going the opposite way. We could see each other coming thanks to our headlights at night.

I love this gen of Corolla, it really is the peak "just car", everything after kept getting fussy and "feature packed". I really want one lol
Attainable goals are nice. :)
I like the generation before because these had really big A pillars that reduce forward visibility. Pickups can hide in those blind spots!
1995 corolla
I've grown a bit more fond of this gen of Corolla recently, even though interior fit and finish declined dramatically with this redesign. One thing I really liked about this one was that it was the last truly analog Toyota car.
Kinda like my 03 base Malibu. Just car lol. It’s low mileage too. Bought with 96K miles almost 5 months ago. Now has 100,270 miles.
The car's face just scream "yay I'm doing something exciting rather than just going from A to B"

White Corolla in snow actually doesn't look too bad. I could imagine it looking good in a rally livery.
4 years later, if they made some of these cars in rwd it would be the most popular car for tuning. The cars are actually fucking nice and have nice body kits.
@@gabrielgalvez7449 delphi ecus on these are nearly impossible to tune hence theres no tuning support on these, also body kits are garbage quality nothing good on these.

@@PhilmeisterWRX The Prius has good weight distribution. Honestly... Toyota needs to make a hot version of the Prius, put the electric engine in back to get "AWD", put in some more power and you'd actually a serviceable hot hatch/sporty car. New tires and some suspension tuning are also needed.

@@kyousey If you let it play for a few seconds you'll see that he clips the third pair of cones flipping the one indicating direction (laying down 'pointing' right (left for him)) upright. Letting it play to 1:59 you'll see the 2 cones sitting upright behind the car.

This toyota model is super crazy durable..in Bangkok they use it as Taxi ran 24 hrs over 1 million KM.. in high traffic 37C up.. and the replacement part is very good value.

@Tatsooya Suwo well in an episode he did drift on akina in snow chasing a Toyota Celica GT-Four. Touge and Rallying is similar but not the same ofcourse.
For people wondering what the hell is going on here: Drifting started in a Corolla. The AE86. By Keiichi Tsuchiya. It was rear wheel drive.
well it is an FR so it has a difference, plus the 4A-GE engine and better weight distribution and suspension, huge difference from that corrolla
@@DarxusC No it didn't. If anyone Kunimitsu Takahashi is the inventor of drifting, but the techniques of controlled oversteer had been used by pro drivers for decades. Keiichi Tsuchiya helped make it more popular and into it's own discipline.

I highly doubt it just the XRS I see is sporty.
Compared to my GTI the Corolla feels like trash. Especially now with the MK7 and how much power it makes on stage 1.

As an Alaskan I honestly prefer FWD in the winter because of how obedient they are. You can also pull the front end around from a stop by pulling th e E-brake.
The two biggest problems are uphill pulls where all your weight shifts to the rear and pulls from a dead stop for the same reason.
I’m so happy for that Corolla :) it’s always good to see a car stretch it’s legs
Before watching: I'm gonna say this thing will probably do surprisingly well. It's FWD, so it'll handle well in low-traction situations, and Toyota consistently makes surprisingly stronk little cars so I highly doubt it's going to just break.
So satisfying to see an average corolla do some slides! Great video!
The music volume compared to the dialogue was much better in this video compared to the last few. This makes it much more enjoyable to watch. Keep these videos coming, it's interesting to see how all of these cars compare to each other. Keep up the good work!
You guys need to try some 80’s and 90’s stuff. It’d be interesting to see how some older, more analogue machinery does on a rally stage!
I strongly believe corolla should go back to rear wheel drive or build with a.w.d period.
@Robert Campbell - Would be fun to see an AWD or RWD Corolla. Toyota would never do it though, but we can dream.
At least we still have the old Corollas, Starlets, Celicas and the like to scratch that cheap-and-cheerful RWD Toyota itch.

Used to do down forest service roads way too fast in a 2010 Toyota carolla. Tought me alot about weight transfer and such. It also jumped really well.

my winter beater is a rolla with over 700k on er. and it truely is a blast in the snow. damn little thing wont die.

This jives with my experience driving a Corolla in snow...
As long as you are moving, you'll be fine...
Both times I have gotten my Corolla stuck in snow, I was going uphill, and someone forced me to stop. Both times I got myself free. Once by sticking it to a guardrail and backing it down after traffic cleared... once by backing it down a hill on another occasion.
The moral of the story is if you are driving a Corolla in snow, make sure you don't stop.

This video was absolutely tight. Well done guys. I've always found toyotas to be pretty solid cars no matter what model. Might not be the nicest looking cars on the road or the most comfortable but they're alot of fun at the limit, my old tercel was great!

I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE Auto, didn’t think it had much potential but this gives me motivation
did this with a 91 corrola that was rear ended, stripped the interior, cut all the exterior panels off , made a fuel cell, took all the windows out and had a blast for literal years, until i came around a corner and smashed into a downed tree, broke the oil pan and lower rad hose, that old corrola took me about 10 miles home with no oil. once it shut off it never started again i would love to do that again

I had one about that year. The Costco parking lot was a bunch of weird shapes and was very slippery in the rain. I used to slide all over that place every rainy morning while the lot was empty before they opened
When I was a little younger and a little stupider (less than 10 years) I would go over frozen farm highways at like 80 mph on the straighter sections on studded tires in my dark blue 2004 Corolla (Cheap Edition). And I mean the highways where it's been plowed and you're lucky to get gravel sometimes, so the snowplows just turn the surface into an ice sheet. No ABS, no cruise control, manual transmission. Obviously you slow down on the tight corners. That car is fun as hell. The only time I've ever slid off the road was going 35 mph or lower in low vis conditions, and even then I got lucky and somehow managed to thread the needle between a power pole and a tree when I tried to stop for the stop sign at a "T" intersection. I've been fortunate that the car has never been in a serious collision, and while yes I would like a dream car I still don't mind driving this one. I can laugh at stupid prius drivers while I get just as good a mileage in this vehicle, and have even more fun driving it because of the transmission. Yes, it can rally IMO.
In the other videos you looked quite comfortable when driving. This time you were truly nervous. One can tell as you completely forgot to blink! Good stuff overall :)

The new series is great. I am begging for you to do a series that for some reason no one has done. Thats a series on preparing the underside for a eally stage. Tons of videos on skid plates but nothing on protecting the underside, wheel wells and making horizontal flaps.

I have a 2009 Corolla just like that one it's a fun car to drive and some easy modifications can make it so much fun i have mine with headers, cold Air Intake and Tuned on 93 octane it's a beast
Its interesting to see how well these newer cars handle from the factory.

I have an 01 Corolla and its really fun to drive on the twisty roads that we have in Puerto Rico. Yeah, it's not really fast but its so fun to drive like a maniac, lol.
I have a 2008 Toyota Matrix Xr and it is awesome in the snow.
The thing with left foot braking in automatics is you can slow down but keep it in low gear if you hold the throttle, you can control the transmission with your feet only
