Good video as always and I think that it is so cool that you let people take a quick spin on your bikes sometimes. I enjoy the hill test in the garage.Good job.
Hi Matt, another great review. Thank you! And your explanation of the charger was spot-on; in the radio controlled aircraft world, we call this charging method 'constant current and constant voltage' (CC-CV), where the charger applies the maximum allowed charging current to the battery as long as the cell voltage is below its maximum value, and once the battery reaches that voltage, the charger gradually decreases the current to maintain a constant voltage. My guess is that ebike chargers work about the same way. Take care! -Ronnie
Glad you reviewed a lower powered ebike. I like getting exercise from my bike but need a bit of help on the hills. This seems like a almost perfect bike for me, just wish it had a torque sensor. As you mentioned the Discover 2 does have a torque sensor.
Retired guy here, listened to my local bike shop. They pointed me at Discover 2 and I am loving it! Where I live hills are a huge challenge for me, but now I'm not afraid to head to a local trail or beach. And the torque sensor is really nice now that I'm used to it. I can throttle my way up every hill around here if I'm too tired for max peddle assist, but I feel like I'm riding and I come back with great feeling of exercise. It changes the dynamic from being afraid you won't make it home to always knowing you can just rely on the bike. For me, I find myself riding harder on eco mode just for the fun of it ( but later wimping my way back up the final hill lol) I get my exercise nicely with this torque sensor style.
Its funny for me finding your channel as I was researching e-bikes. I live in almost the same area, pretty familiar with that testing route haha. Great reviews! really inspiring me to pick a bike and get to the beach more often!
Matt - lost your YT site for a while Really enjoy your reviews, have not yet bought an ebike This one I like a lot ! My nephew lives in Ocean side and I've been to Long Beach many times Despite the homeless looks like a place I'd enjoy Can't imagine CRASHING one of those ! Broken bones for sure
I’ve heard some bad things abt the discover 2 however never experienced them myself great bike 1474 miles in just a month no issues with the controller and the discover 2 with the new update does have cadence now as well as the stock torque I can get about 33 mph on it with a full charge
Another awesome review Matt! Cheers ...I am liking these style of Ebikes more and more...less weight and does pretty much everything I need :) :) Also I don't need to go 50mph ....20is fine with me :)
You may have to buy better tires because the ones they send are in the “good” category only. I had to fork out $200 to get better tires installed. On the first 3 mile ride home the rear tire went flat after I got home. You can use the left thumb accelerator to start the power for peddle assist. Upon arrival the suspension was locked mode. Make sure to adjust the lock or the ride will be stiff.
I have one of the older model Velotric Descover 1 (High Step) Tho in comparison to the Plus version, power is roughly the same as well as has a decent weight capacity at 440lbs. Given that the Plus model can go at higher speeds it goes a lot faster than my current Ebike which is at 25mph which ain't bad.
I'm surprised that they are still using 500w motors for these. 750 are found on a lot of bikes now, and for a well-known company, I would expect more. I understand it is made for cruz'n and not necessarily made for speed, but it would be nice to have the little extra extra.
Here's a pro tip: *the motor rating doesn't matter.* All it does is basically describe its thermal mass. What matters most is motor gearing and controller rating.
Similarly priced to Lectric's Xpress. Xpress has a 750watt option with a torque sensor! , Still limited to 48v battery. No unlocking past class 3 though.
Very well done review. Sometimes I used to like to take my former Gotrax EBE8(stupid ass name) 500w down to the beach or just a trip to the store to do some light errands, etc. It's a very easy, light ,accessible e-bike that everyone can enjoy. Is it going to set any speed records? Nope. Is it going to have mind numbing torque? Nope. But will it get you down the road or to the beach in a reasonable manner that is A economical. You aren't spending a lot on electricity and gas. and B. Being fun for a spouse or partner so they can enjoy the bike as well. So even though it may seem "bad"(??) This may be more appropriate to your situation and it seem like a very well built bike that would do well with just a few upgrades.
Hey dude love your videos. I work very close to this place that you are riding (next to google building). I want to get my first ebike and kind of like this one. The ebikes that you are reviewing, do you sell them after?
I have the go 1 and I have been waiting about 4 months for a replacement motor…ugh…while still paying the monthly payment since I financed it… Luckily I have another e-bike that is paid off… But I miss my go 1 a lot…makes groceries a piece of cake
My wife has a Velotric Discover 1 (not the plus version). It’s a good bike. What does the plus have over the older version? I’m surprised they updated the 1 considering the 2 hasn’t been out long.
Hello friend, I just found you, you make great videos, congratulations. Based on your information, I will buy a bike for Uber work. Which model do you think is best? It makes for long miles. Could you please answer?🙏🏻
Didn’t do a hill test? Didn’t show the accelerator thumb version to ride how much it lasts on the battery? Saying it’s better on hills than a regular bike isn’t impressive. Needed a hill test.
Can I please have one of your fat tire bikes? I’ve been wanting one for so long, but I just don’t have the budget. I’m 13 school just started and I can’t work on my job anymore.
@@mikec4308 ya, you'd be wrong about that but good luck on your opinion. I have a Pathfinder, 1300 miles on it and I can hop on right now and ride 100 miles and not think twice about it.. never a single issue, original tubes even. My mother in-law has one as well and it's great, ZERO issues.
@@mikec4308 my Walmart has a mountain bike right now for 98$ not on sale. im thinking about buying 3, getting a conversion kit and making a cart out of the other two.
would be perfect for use in the UK, I would say it would be worth it if it had a torque sensor instead of a cadence. Torque sensors should be common practice by now.

My ebike charger will shut off completely once my battery reaches maximum voltage (which for me is 58.8 volts).

Just FYI, about 10 days ago a Firmware update was pushed and the Discover 2 now does torque & cadence sensors! BOTH!

For that price is a great choice and it is good to do some exercise as well. Love that mango yellow. Nice review 👌🏼

Surprising results for the low watt motor. Thanks for another great review Matt!
I really like this bike because it does not seem to heavy. I also like the yellow colour. Thanks for a great review.

@rydoggo Can a given brushless magnet be wound to achieve more torque at a given power rating, or more power, or even more watts?
The UL cert probably cost them a bit. Part of the bike price most likely includes that D&E costing.
It’s cheaper this way and it’s smaller than most of the 750w bikes at 60 lbs. Pretty common to see non-fat tire ebikes at 500w.
i pedal only on my rad runner 2. only use throttle if to windy out side or burst of speed to go fast after waiting for light to change

Keeps the price and weight down a lot to use spokes.

Brighter front light, adjustable stem and adjustable max speed just minor changes
I was looking at this discover 1 vs the nomad 1 for commuting and going up a big parking ramp. This looks like it is underpowered for steep ramps.
Is the EAhora Juliette still the best long distance ebike on the market?
