One of the best lessons I learned while growing up was to never store flammable items on top of your stove, you know, like paper and wood and things like that.
So far, so good.
Another good lesson is don't teach your dog how to use the stove.
I had parchment paper catch fire in my oven! It started flaring up and scared the hell out of me. Luckily I got it out but my cookies were all burnt up! LOL
That actually happens fairly often. Stoves with front mounted controls are not a good idea if you have a larger dog in the house. And never leave food on the stovetop because dogs will go after it. I have a coworker who recently lost her kitchen that way.
Right and if they have more than one need to keep animals in a closed room or basement if you are going to leave your property for a certain amount of time or at least train the animals to stay out of kitchen area I can never understand anyone that cook with pets in the kitchen I couldn't eat at nobody house that allow animals to roam in the kitchen climbing up on things etc
My cat accidentally turned the stove on once. Luckily nothing happened
People need to buy range nob locks .. 50 cents
My neighbor’s dog did this. Thankfully I heard the smoke detector and everyone was saved.
People are very protective of their fur babies. They are family. Before we married, I let him know that if a fire started he would have to get himself out because I would be saving the pets. He said he would be helping me. As bad as that sounds, we have our priorities.
I have 2 cats, and this is my biggest fear. My cats are crazy enough to do this.
For this reason, I always have the knobs taken off my stove whenever I am not in the house. Also, I have to put a home depot bucket over the sink handle everyday before I go to work....sounds crazy but my cats have turned the sink on before and set it on very hot water.
Just buy the kind that keep kids from using them. Knob stop locks are cheap and great.
Geez, what kind of wild cats do you have??
You can turn the water off by the knob under the sink.
They are ex feral cats.
It would be so much easier to get a large dog crate and leave our cat in the crate or in a bedroom with food, water, and litter, and shut the door when away.
You NEVER leave flammable items on the stove. Absolutely never. Not just for pets. Children to.
Why would you even think of leaving your pet or child on the stove?

I am surprised people don't know there are oven knob covers, if you have children or dogs/cats ensure to look at the different types available covers available.
Probably an older person who didn't know about them. Where I used to live, the condos were pet friendly and full of young families. Everyone had them.
I’ve never heard of them. Thanks for the tip
Second story I heard about this type of situation. 😕 It's a bummer, too. Animals don't exactly have the brainpower to fully comprehend what technology, devices, and their actions can do. 😓
Neither do most modern humans…
Humans start way more fires than dogs !
2:05 Yeah sorry, this is a very ideal sentiment but unfortunately some people love their animals more than their own lives and are willing to risk it. ...speaking as someone who feels a fierce love for my animals, it is hard to say how I would physically react if I knew they were in danger and I had two functioning arms and legs... therefore it is also hard for me to place judgment on people who DO choose to risk their lives for their animals, or not. I'm just thankful I'll probably never have to make a decision like that.
Never say never
People fault not the dogs
Dog wanted the insurance money
@@vanguard812-vf7hr 😂😂😂😂
Owner is the same person growing up that would tell the teacher the dog ate his homework
This is why I keep cameras in my kitchen, living room and my 7 year old room. My dog have her little room with her toy and her treats stay on top of the refrigerator!
I´m thankful that I once saved one of my bestie co´s life, cause I called him and woke him up - while his husband unfortunately turned on the stove by passing by in a hurry for work. After I called him to ask something about the schedule-plan for the week he recognized that a tea towel already started to glow. He was soooo thankfully at the next day and believed that he would have died without my call, so he brought me my favorite coffee from the bakery as a small thank you.
I´m glad that our stove is far away from the door and to turn it on I need to push the button out before turning. I´m also a bit paranoid and check the stove and if the windows are closed before I leave up to three times, so nothing can harm our beloved fur-babies. I also had moments when I´m out the door, that I go back and check again - if I hadn´t forgotten something ^^.
My condolences to the home-owner as one of the dogs didn´t make it. It must be horrible to loose a family-member that way, especially when you are in front of the house trying to do everything possible to rescue your best buddy.
I would never understand why some people love animals sooo much but fail to train them you can train a animal to stay from kitchen area too many animals in a house is never a good thing IDC!
I have a gas stove and oven, because I have 3 dogs and a cat when I'm not using the stove or oven I pull the nobs off. That way the stover/oven can't be turned on .. also I have an 12 inch long 2 inch wide opening in the wall above the stove going to the outside. This is just in case there's a gas leak in the stove/oven. That was a helpful tip I was given by a friend who once had a gas leak in his house.
The video they showed of the dog up at the stove, why would anyone leave flamable items on top of a stove of any kind? People also need to train their dogs better, takes some training classes or crate them when you are not home. I hate the crate idea, but the other option is TRAIN your dogs better.
instead of a crate, there are huge pop up tents made of 600 oxford cloth for doggos to hang out in. Not blaming the owner, but it appears they had enough room for one.
You can’t train a dog or a child to not do silly/dangerous things… You just need to ensure that the environment they’re in is safe, or if not, provide constant supervision.
She was home.
Give doggo boundaries. We don’t allow our dog in the kitchen and crate him when we are away.
ALWAYS get a rear knob mounted stove; NEVER get a front knob mounted one, kids and pets can easily turn the knobs accidentally, a BIG BIG HAZARD.
I lived in a handicapped accessible apt. So my knobs were front mounted
God that poor lady … losing her home, and the dog that she was dog-sitting. I don’t think I’d get over something like that for a very long time. Like, yes I hope some of her stuff was salvageable and things can be replaced but still. I’d never get over the guilt of letting the one dog die in my care. Even if it was an accident.
We have to remove the knobs of our stove because we got an elderly woman who likes to boil water and cook different types of Korean foods.. and she even used it to light paper on fire so she could smoke it like a cigarette.. because she kept doing it and got her cigarettes taken away because she kept using the heating elements to light the paper on fire.. she'd literally go out the front door and walk up and down the sidewalk picking up cigarettes and fill her pockets full and come home and sit and rip them all open and dump all of the tobacco onto the table and push it all into her pocket.. she's over 70 years old and kind of crazy
Wow.
you got? what do you mean you got? someone forced her to live in your house with you?
Sounds to me like she got just about everything taken from her and she is just trying to get a smoke...
@@Darci3333 but thats a big hazard if shes absent minded. I wd not tolerate this in my house, too dangerous.
That's cruel give her her smokes 😢
Also, I have 2 dogs and sometimes I’ve come into the kitchen and smelled gas because the burner knob was slightly turned on. Very very lucky nothing happened.
This is a new twist on the old “the dog ate my homework “.
No working smoke detectors but so crazy about animals
Why are current stoves can be easily turned? Why design it that way when it's causing such problems. Old stoves need an extra effort to turn. It clicks before it turns on, too. It prevents pets from accidentally turning a stove so easily. And we have cats at home, so they tend start mischief around wee hours. Companies should consider bringing that function back.
And oh, we can also turn off the gas with regulators. It can auto shut off in case of gas leak too.
Years ago the gas stove we had the knobs were on the front of the stove just above the oven door. I had a clean frying pan on the stove when we left to go to the store. When we got home, I could smell something strange. I went into the kitchen and the burner under the pan, now slightly askew, was lit and on high. One of our cats had jumped up, bumping the pan, probably slipping onto the knob and turning it on. It had been burning enough to burn a mark on the outer part of the pan. Luckily that was all that happened. We stopped putting clean pans on the stove after that.
RIP my angel
My grandmother spent months in the hospital and almost died in 1971 from a gas explosion when one of her two dogs was thought to have turned on one of the burners on the stove, and since grandma lit the cooktop manually as the thermocouple for the cooktop pilot was bad and needed replacement, gas filled the kitchen and since it was propane which is heavier than air, accumulated near the floor until it was ignited by the oven or broiler pilot. Blew out the all the windows in the house and kitchen walls into the living room where grandma had dozed off on the couch. Both dogs died and the house had to be condemned and torn down.
Dogs although very loving are more responsibility than I would be willing to have. Plus they are expensive to keep.
That’s very responsible, I wish more people were like you. There are sadly a lot of neglected dogs out there
much cheaper than kids and more loving and grateful than mine, my friend calls his kids the ungratefuls
This happens and dog owners need to be more responsible, they should not have access to the kitchen when youre not home !
Rest in peace poor pup 😢😢😢😢
Why leave boxes on a stove ?! It’s not a table. Updated Fire detector should be mandatory gotta give a fine . There should be more teaching on fire household hazards. Even adults are clueless .
The animals are innocent, they don’t know what they’re doing. So we need ways to protect the stove buttons and knobs. I pray the owner and the rest of her animals will recover fully and hope insurance covers her damages and restoration. RIP to the dog who perished.
These stove makers need to review how they make stoves. I brushed by the stove and the gas came on. Remake these stoves people……
Dogs are smart enough to think that your food was probably under cooked or the dog wants to cook a home cook meal and doesn’t know how to figure out these darn stoves even work
Does home insurance cover this regarding the dog turn on stove? Is this part of new insurance policy cover for animals?
Never leave dogs and kids alone unattended around the stove and other dangerous places!
Someone's not getting anymore treats 🐕
you have to pet proof.. or block them from the rm. and fire/smoke detectors as well. 1 per floor and in the bedrms, basement too. there are ones that can go in the kitchen tho they may still have false alarms.
this is why open concept kitchens are a problem.
our place has a door to the kitchen I don't worry about them getting burnt or starting a fire.
The dog said fuck it
He was cooking for himself. Poor sweet dog. Hope he’s not in any trouble❤
(holds nose) “Stee-ohve!”
I'm home the majority of the time but when im not home for a couple hours or asleep at night, my dog (a 20 something lb Cocker Spaniel) is kept in her in her crate to prevent the risk of things like this happening (or her eating/chewing on anything dangerous for her, hurting herself some other way, etc) when i can't keep an eye on her. I have a gas stove with the knobs above the oven part that you push in & turn to turn the burners on... my dog is the type that wants to get into stuff when shes free roaming the house & also spends the first 2-5 minutes after you leave the house barking, whining & yelping like shes being ☠️ or something 🤦🏻♀️
my animals often got the handles so the burners turn on or set gas loose. we installed a shut off valve. so this was not able to happen.
This is why I don’t have a pet
Mandatory sprinkler systems would save countless lives and millions in
property damage!❤
More like don't store stuff on a stove. The issue with residential sprinklers is that the water feed from the street is too small ( 3/4" copper tubing is typical ) to do any good.
Mandatory sprinklers would also cause millions in accidental property damage
What a ridiculous comment, we’d also stop more forest fires if every town in the country had a water drop helicopter.
@@JoshKozi Yep, and too costly to retro fit. Simply keep the kitchen closed off and knob locks on.
Why the heck would anyone leave stuff on the stove shame on them
Come on people this should never happen if people just remove your stove knobs!!!!!!!
Shame on unreasonable owners
This needs to stop 🛑 fire 🔥 should not be rules as accident
She/he should have removed the knobs off the stove !!!!!!
Remove stove knobs ?? Not really practical
who the hell would put boxes on top of the burner....
Wait every year
These pets are thinking differently
If you have an animal get a set of safety stove knob covers made for toddlers. And don’t ever leave food on the stove.
This is a pretty good example of why you should never teach your dog to cook
Don't keep any flammable objects on your stove top. A stove top with nothing on it will not catch on fire.
That's not necessarily true. If it gets hot enough, a cabinet above or next to it can ignite. (that has happened)
I live in a pet-friendly building and this scares me to death. I really wish people would contain their pets when they are not home. Lock them in a room away from stoves etc.
If they live in a studio or elsewhere, Knob stop locks are cheap and great. Would eb so cheap to invest in them. Buy some for the apartments around you at least.
Locking dogs in one room is abusive. Just be responsible and make the house safe.
“Stöve”
Impossible dog couldn't do anything like that
😱
Always keep treats hidden away :( so sad
An induction stove wouldn’t have done this.
I heard of this before. A dog pawed the stove trying to retrieve a pizza box. My own story. I had two small Lhaso Apsos that I thought were well behaved. I put my birthday cake, which I had just picked up from the bakery, on my stove top. It was sealed in the box. It was a full sheet cake as we were having a party for me later. We went outside to do yard work and when we came in THOSE DOGS WERE COVERED IN CHOCOLATE ICING. My kitchen wall was streaked with it. The box was half eaten as well. Two small dogs devoured that sheet cake in half an hour. I refused to order another cake and reschedule. No cake for me. A loss of $45.00
New fear unlocked ✔️
Hey thats the consequences of giving the cheap kibbles
Note to self: remove stove knobs whe done using the stove 😅
I always remove the knob in our stove
Not once have I removed knobs from our stoves....never met a person that does....never met a person that's been in a fire either
That’s really 100% messed up!!!!!! 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Need the range nob locks .. people use them for child access prevention
So the dog is under arrest and is now charged with murder
I am Fidos lawyer. And he is in fact innocent until proven guilty 🥸🐶
Our dog started a fire that burned our house down.
This is why, for years, I’ve been removing the knobs of the burners and also “locking” the control panel. Very sad the one dog perished and this woman lost her home. Keep the top of the stove clear of everything!
Bad dog!
God gave dogs fur so they could stay outside
The dog’s name was Pyro Fido 🐶
😢😊
Feed your dog folks or he’ll feed himself. And stop feeding him people food or that’s what he’ll want, doggy just wanted a grilled steak.
Oven knob covers. Less than 10 bucks.
A dog started a fire? Keep doggy treats off the counter.
a dog is suppose to be mans best friend but it doesnt appear so now....but you should NEVER store flamable things on the stove....i bet the person who had flammable material on the stove when a furry companion turned on the stove probably got their insurance claim denied
Poor scruffs
I can only imagine how hungry the dog was. Trying to put a meal together
Somebody is gonna be in their crate!
Don't keep flammables on a stove.
Well....next someone will be promoting a pet proof stove and try to sell it at some outlandish ridiculously exorbitant price😂😂😂😂
Bad dog.
Stoves are so easy to start, I can barely lean against mine and it was turn on🤬
If the owner actually didn't have any thing on the stove or even near the stove, it would not have happened, its on them. Bless the animals whom list their lives.
Exactly this happened to a friend of mine. But the dog survived.
This highlights serious design flaws. No appliances should permit a pet or child to accidentally turn them on. I think this is why we don't see wide slot toasters anymore. We had one and a pet knocked a book off the microwave. The book fell into the toaster and the elements came one. Fortunately the cookbook was singed and caused some smoke but didn't start a fire. It took a minute to figure out the source of the smoke.
An old toaster oven had a push down lever for the toast function. A bag of groceries fell over and the plastic bag got melted to the top. A pet could have easily turned it on that way too. Now the one we have had a knob that you have to really crank to turn the oven on.
I hope there are people working to make our appliances and homes safer.
My condolences to anyone who's lost a pet or someone else in this way.
Happy my dogs are short
😢❤❤❤
😬🏡🔥🐕
a cap paw can easily move a handle unknowingly. you can unplug Eletric. you can install a shut off valve to keep gas off incase they open the handle. we did this ton save us.
My stove died ages ago. I now have an induction burner. My cats kept turning on the touch controls when I wasn't looking. I put it on a Smart Plug. I have to turn the plug on with my phone before it will come on, JUST to keep my idiot cats from burning down the house.
Do their pets cook for them?🧐🤔
Ruh-roh Raggy… 🐕
I would definitely go back to save my dog. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try.
Common sense stuff
wtf
Lol dog turning on the stove..
😢
Not worth it. Pets 'r' dum
Bad dog
Why blame the dog and not its irresponsible owner?
