    ERRATA
00:31 I believe that the ISKA World Martial Arts Challenge actually holds the record for drawing the biggest U.S. audience, drawing at least 14,000 in 1992.
01:27 All titles contended during this show were in fact PKC properties, the PKA having since ceased to function as a sanctioning body.
15:57 The other "surprise match" of the night was actually the Rick Roufus / Tony Smith bout.

I won the ISKA super middleweight World Title in 2002 With a 9th round K.O. l never understood why kickboxing didn't take of like boxing has l think it's way more exciting to watch

I was a brown belt and competed in the daytime events. Today I am an 8th degree black belt and still have my souvenir program. What a great event

As a kid In the early 90s I was a huge fight fan due to my dad introducing me to boxing(also watched ufc1&2 live on ppv.) As a pre/young teen i used to record every boxing event that I could on my VCR
onto vhs tapes & would often trade videos with my dad's friend...which is when I got ahold of a recorded copy of a karatemania ppv. I remember Rick roufus winning a lopsided match quickly by ko..also Dennis Alexio from the movie Kickboxer won a fight I Wanna say it was karatemania 3 but it's been soooo long. Eventually lost every vhs I owned over the yrs but I just remembered the event name today & found this awesome very descriptive, informative well put together video. I'll be watching more well done this brought me back to my childhood for awhile...this 40 yr old geezer appreciates it 😂

Wish I knew! I think the video tape has a few snippets of the BoA event but doesn't cover it at all.

To clear a few things up. I am sure Karatemania 1 was not a PPV event, it was actually shown on ESPN.
The PKA/PKC thing. In either late 1985 or early 1986, 2 different groups of PKA promoters had a dispute and each group formed their own sanctioning organizations. The PKC - Professional Karate Commission, which consisted of mostly East Coast promoters and the ISKA-International Sport Karate Association, which consisted of promoters in the western and mid west states. The PKA then became a promotional group only and aligned itself with the PKC. The PKA was never a sanctioning body after that, only promotional and all titles in PKA events were called PKC world titles.
The video mentioned that there was another kickboxing bout on the card beside the 5 that were reviewed. I don't recall there being another, but not saying there wasn't. Karatemania 1 was held in conjunction with Corley's annual Battle of Atlanta karate tournament. On the original broadcast there were several point karate matches put on between the kickboxing fights to determine the grand champions of the karate tournament. Not sure if these fights are what you are referring to.
All in all a very good look back at this historic event and done very well. Brings back a lot of memories.

      Thanks for the comment!
The PPV info comes from the official Star System kickboxing ratings site, which tends to be a reliable source. ESPN did indeed show the fights in the aftermath, but that was a matter of course during a time when kickboxing programming was primarily all taped matches.
I concede the PKA/PKC distinction, having learned more about it since this video. I knew that the PKA stopped being a sanctioning body around this time, but I didn't realize it was during the same year this show aired.
I actually knew about the Battle of Atlanta connection! That's not what I was talking about, but it turns out I was still wrong - sort of. There were indeed two "backup matches" during the show, but the other one apparently was the Rick Roufus bout. I don't know how I missed it, but the commentators say so during the Dye/Landreth bout - I've got that fight uploaded on my other channel.

I always preferred WKA over PKA . Not as limited closer to reality. Definite respect for the Ice Man though.
