  • ‘I’m not disabled by being a wheelchair user or not being able to walk, barriers to access the world disable me,' says poet and activist Bethany Handley.
Bethany shares that maps of routes, more open spaces (and boundaries that don't involve gates or styles), more disabled models outdoors in the media, and breaking social - as well as physical - barriers will all help to open up the countryside to everyone.
Bethany is an ambassador for Country Living’s Access for All campaign and has contributed to our interactive map of the UK’s accessible walks.

Thank you for sharing your journey. The outdoors is mentally and physically rewarding. You breathe deeper and can clear your mind. I admire you.

❤ This is such a big deal! Thank you so much! 100% agree as a wheelchair user, access is appalling unless it’s on National Trust land.
