🚨I recently tested another faster Apple CarPlay & Android Auto system with an 10" screen where don't need to dismantle the interior! 👉th-cam.com/video/QNBPixBGxyg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Peter, I watched the easier option. But, I like how this replacement system is built into the dash. If I understand correctly it will function just like the original even without a phone *except for loss of navigation. Correct? We often travel off-road and away from cell or data coverage. I assume a phone could still be paired or screen mirrored for use with our off-line maps, or playing stored music files... Correct? I am not apposed to taking the dash apart and don't need the portability of the other option. Is this device my best choice, has it been reliable...? The only pro I can see with the other option is if it quits I can just unplug it. I really do appreciate your thoughts and the work you put into this channel. Regards, Dave
Hi Dave, Yes everything works as usual except that you lose the built-in navigation. But you can also start apps on the screen without internet which offer offline maps. I would only recommend to check if a CarPlay or Android Auto variant of the said apps is also available. Mirroring is also possible but only via USB cable. The built-in system works for me since the installation without problems. And yes, the advantage of the other system is that on the one hand, the built-in navigation system remains, and you can easily swap it should something not work. If I had not installed the system in my Discovery, I would probably choose the 10" or another variant of it, because this is due to the more modern screen a lot more pleasant to use. Of course, it is nicer not to have a second screen in the vehicle, but that is a matter of taste. Whatever you decide, I think it's a really worthwhile upgrade. 👍 ☺️ Many greetings and all the best, Peter
@notthatkindofachannel Thank you for your insight. This is very helpful. I just ordered the in-dash system. I suspect that with the help of your outstanding videos all will go well:)
Thanks man. You've been an invaluable resource as I've worked on my new to me '16 LR4. I'm sure you've got plenty of content but if you are unsatisfied with the factory bass response, according to some guy on the internet this is a value drop-in solution: "So for others that want to do this I just installed a MB Quart NPW-254 10" sub with an Audio Control ACM 1.300 amp. This is guaranteed to fix your lack of low frequency concerns. It fits right into the factory hole in the tailgate. This sub is designed for use in your ski boat so no box is needed. You will need to make a spacer of 1/2 inch MDF as the sub is deeper than the stock unit but will still fit nicely behind the tailgate panel. The box includes a template to make the spacer. The amp is very versatile and can be used by tapping into the line out speaker wires from the factory amp. This lets you use the sub controls on the head unit. Lots of room in the right rear behind the panel where the stock amp is located so a very easy install. You will want to get some sound deadening material and add it all over the tailgate. I set the gain no more than halfway and this thing hits very hard. More than enough grunt to work with the rest of the sys." Would make for an awesome video as no one has recorded this yet but its a somewhat go-to upgrade on the forums.
Hey, thanks for your words! And also thanks for the detailed description and the tip about the alternative subwoofer and the amplifier! What about the noise from the lower tailgate when the subwoofer is used? Does it rattle? Best regards, Peter
@@notthatkindofachannelit’s recommended to line the tailgate with deadening material. Amazon basics ranks among the best and is inexpensive. In addition, this is a marine woofer so it’s designed to rattle less and not require an enclosure like the subwoofers were used to. I’ve already made the purchase but have more pressing things to tackle beforehand. I’ll report back on issues I encounter if you don’t beat me to it.
Hi Peter. If you get chance to drop the glove box down I’d love to see how you have accommodated the box behind dash. I’m usually pretty creative but I can’t imagine how you’ve done it. Mine currently lives in the glove box and whilst elegant it works. Id just like to house it elsewhere thanks
Hi @paulcrane2010, mine is also still hiding in the glove box not behind. I tried it on the back and on the left side to the center console. But there is not enough room for it. I also thought about placing the module in the center console behind the screen or in bottom front of the gear selector. There is a comment in the other video I think, where someone hid behind the screen. But in my case there isn't enough space. Would be really interested if you find a spot to hide it ;) Best to you, Peter
One question: I installed the Car Play without any porblems at all thanks to your tutorial, but the volume on the Car Play phone is very low. Can this be changed without using the volume button in the car? The difference in volume between radio/music and phone is very huge.
Great video! Instead of using the AUX input can you leave the Land Rover system on BT Audio in and stream the sound from CarPlay via BT audio ? Would this allow the steering control Next and Prev tracks to work ?
Yes, this will work! It's a simple trick: Connect your phone - if it was already connected - to the car and to the module via Bluetooth not AUX. Then switch to Apple CarPlay. Now you can change songs etc. via your steering wheel. 😁
Hi! No, it’s like the same as before. You’ll only see which input you’re using but no additional information about songs or anything else. Have a good day
Hey @Keiths-Teeth, Siri or Google Assistant can easily be called up via voice command when CarPlay or Android Auto is open. In other words, with "Hey Siri" or "Hey Google". After that, you can control things via voice command as usual. All cameras, whether rear view camera or 360°, still work as usual. As soon as you put the car in reverse, the original camera image is displayed. Best regards, Peter
Ah ok, now everything is clear to me 😄 On the power cable or the connection cable are also plugs for cameras (front and rear) available for retrofitting. Here you can buy cheaper cameras (also with radio) and simply connect them to the module. Thus, the original wiring and the original camera must not be installed. Whether the changeover happens automatically when reverse gear is engaged or whether you have to switch manually, I can not tell you unfortunately. But despite all that, I think it's a good improvement! All the best, Peter

If the vehicle is out of operation for a longer time, then the startup of the module also takes 1 minute or so. Best regards, Peter

When using the device everytime i go into reverse the landrover menu comes up and stays on until i press the nav button to get it back to the device, also the sound quality playing is muffled, its not as clear as the landrover sound. Peter. Please could you let me know what switches were set to off/on on the module? I ask as the one that I have received had all set to off. At the moment it’s dropping every 3 minutes and I’m struggling to get support from sudar shop. Thanks !!!

Have you had any issues with running infotainment diagnostics with the ISUDAR CarPlay device installed? I had a separate issue with my instrument panel menu control which began to occur when the battery died because the doors were left open. The battery was re-charged and working fine, but the steering wheel controls (OK & up/down/left/right arrows) would no longer function to access the menu or toggle menu options, amber triangle is illuminated, paddle shifter disabled, etc. I took into the auto mechanic, and they said their computer system won’t communicate with my infotainment center likely because of the Apple play aftermarket device. Any comments in a reply would be most helpful. I would prefer not to disassemble the dash again to uninstall the device before taking back to another mechanic. Thank you.

Can we browse files which are on the phone, etc.? And, can you share again link for this device on Aliexpress, please? Thank you, Greg
Hey Greg! If you're using Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or the mirroring function it should be possible. It depends which player you're using on your phone and if there is a CarPlay or Android Auto version. There should be also an internal media player to play files from an USB stick, but I haven't tried it myself. Sure, the link is bit.ly/3NXOva4 All the best, Peter
Hello, Peter thank you very very much for this. I have just followed your instal video to my 2016 discovery 4. I’m very happy with it and managed it in about 2 hours. It takes a bit of confidence but it all goes well if you are careful. All the system works well bar one thing - I appear to have lost the 4x4i menu from the original head unit. The icon is there but in grey and will not select to go into the differential lock and suspension height view. Could you confirm the switch position you used to configure the car play head unit? Mine are all in the down position. The car has been stood a while and I wondered if this is unrelated but want to check. All controls work well bar the track skip from the steering wheel. Which I think I saw somewhere there is a way to get around this? Thank you very much for this great video and the instal one.
Hi Ben, thanks for your comment and for following the instructions to install the module. That makes me very happy, of course! On my Discovery, all the switches on the back are off or, as in your case, down. If you email me, I can send you a photo for comparison or safety. I can't confirm or reproduce the 4x4 menu now, unfortunately, as I haven't heard of that problem either. I assume that you have connected all connections etc. correctly? Do you have a diagnostic tool that you could use to check your system? There is a simple trick for the steering wheel controls: Disconnect or delete your phone from the Land Rover Bluetooth and CarPlay module. Then connect your phone to the car via Bluetooth and then to the module. Play the song through your phone or the car via Bluetooth and then switch to Apple CarPlay. Now you can just output the sound via the car's internal Bluetooth system and still have all the steering wheel control options ;) All the best, Peter
Hey Drew, Yes they still work as they should. No, I’m sorry but that’s not possible. I didn’t understand why it’s not possible until I start searching and find out, that the Spotify app on CarPlay is made by Apple! And now it’s clear why the app is so limited! Because even searching with Siri doesn’t work. Best, Peter
Servus Peter, thanks for this ultimate necessary feature making possible. I try to compare alternatives to the featured isudar smartbox and you mentioned in the video something like "Nutplug" which you said cost much more. Can you write it down pls?
There is a simple trick for the steering wheel controls:
Disconnect or delete your phone from the Land Rover Bluetooth and CarPlay module. Then connect your phone to the car via Bluetooth and then to the module. Play the song through your phone or the car via Bluetooth and then switch to Apple CarPlay. Now you can just output the sound via the car's internal Bluetooth system and still have all the steering wheel control options ;)
All the best, Peter
Great video and very informative! Do the steering wheel control buttons still work as they should? Can you seek songs on spotify?
Hey Drew,
Yes they still work as they should.
No, I’m sorry but that’s not possible. I didn’t understand why it’s not possible until I start searching and find out, that the Spotify app on CarPlay is made by Apple! And now it’s clear why the app is so limited! Because even searching with Siri doesn’t work.
Best, Peter
Thanks for the information!
You’re welcome! 🙏🏻
Servus Peter, thanks for this ultimate necessary feature making possible. I try to compare alternatives to the featured isudar smartbox and you mentioned in the video something like "Nutplug" which you said cost much more. Can you write it down pls? For me the "expensive" part are the hours installing it so maybe if the other one is in some way better or completer it could be an alternative. Thank you! by the way yr link also didnt work for me. So if you will loose some kind of link referral benefit, pls tell me how much and I will pay equivalent to your pay pal. Thanks for all yr enthusiasm around LR Disco 4. I just bought one last week (Modell 2014). Mach weiter so, Danke
Hallo Doc!
I can do it in Land Rover Discovery 4 2013 in Brazil.
