      I think it would be quite informative if you told us how much each coin cost you to do this service. I disagreed with them on the grading of all 5 coins. BUT AGAIN that is their OPINION which doesn't make so...Another interesting process is to break them out and send them to PCGS for their OPINION....Wonder how many would come back the supposed same grade.. .just IMHO!

    What a difference! its night and day... the conservation team do a quality job. Just waiting for my first results to come back from ngc. I sent in some early British copper, pennys and half pennys . Im looking forward to the results. I have a couple of coins in reckon would benefit from conservation after watching this im definitely going to try them out . Thanks alot for the upload.

    I was surprised you didn’t see the hairlines on the Boone before restoration. As I watched, predicted the Boone would be the dud. Home run on the others though. Congrats. Great video as always.

    The trade dollar is a wow, and so far out of my range. I still would like a trade dollar even with chop marks in Fine condition. Even that stretches the budget but I enjoyed this before and after video. Thanks for sharing.

    I still can't get over the fact that if you clean a coin and send it in, you get a "details - cleaned" grade, but if they clean the coin ("conserved"), they give you a straight grade. Seems a bit disingenuous to me. Love the SLQ and the Trade $1.

  • @matterdmann7395

    Have to admit there Ben that the SLQ turned out better than i thought, that was the real win in my book. This video has me thinking of sending some coins into NGC. Ive been having bad luck lately submitting coins, alot of cleaned coins and i dont clean them at ALL. Anywho. Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year!!!

    Ben, great video and lemme tell you why I think so. You showed all your work, like on a math test. For each coin raw you explained exactly your reasoning for the forecasted grade. Then, you went through it all again after conservation and grading to explain what happened and why. Super educational and interesting. I'd love to see more videos like this. Happy holidays and best wishes in 2023.

    All really nice coins but thanks for walking us through the critical approach you take to your grading. We'd all be better off if we could learn to ignore that extra point that ownership seems to provide to a coin's grade.

    Nice job. I'm now collecting the same type of coins. I really love commemorative coins. I just sent pcgs a 1900 Lafayette in Mint State condition. Plus a 1938 New Rochelle coin . a 1921 standing liberty quarter in AU condition. Plus . 59 coins total.

    Funny if we muck about with a coin , it is called cleaned/polished/wiped/scarred/or generally screwed up !
    If a coin grading company cleans a coin it is called conservation !
    edit
    glad a few worked out

    I love these time travel shows.
    I was not surprised by the Boone coming back cleaned, but was really surprised at the Trade Dollar NOT being cleaned. Called the 63 on the Type Prude SLQ. 😎That '16-S Merc seemed grossly undergraded, but it seems like whenever a coin doubles in price between grades... I dunno, far be it from ME to accuse the grading companies of picking winners and losers. 🙄

    • @rogerkinard7446
      @rogerkinard7446 ปีที่แล้ว

      I value my opinion much more than NGC regarding the 1875-S Trade Dollar which their ”professional graders” 🤔
      😲😳😬 🤣😂🤣 determined to be in Mint State-62 condition. In numismatic jargon the coin has been messed with, and is AU Details, Cleaned, in my opinion.

  • @silvadelshaladin
    @silvadelshaladin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the 16s, what hurts it is the vertical mark that runs near the center of the obverse. If that wasn't there, it would have graded higher. Still think it is a 65 but that mark stops a 66 in my mind and stopped a 65 in their mind.

  • @donaldinnewmexico

    Hi, Ben. Is a Quarter Dime 2 1/2 cents? The Merc looks better than 64. **HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE!**
    🤑💰💸

  • @halfdollar1
    @halfdollar1 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a Isabelle quarter submitted to ncs/ngc a few years ago. It had a black spot the size of a pen point on it. It removed almost all of it. The luster was reduced though making the finish look kind of flat. It graded ms63. One grade lower than the submitter was thinking and in that case a bit of value

  • @jamiehoudeshell363
    @jamiehoudeshell363 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got the dime and quarter right but missed on the gold as well as the Boone and the Trade Dollar. I also thought 60 on the $10 gold. I thought AU details on the trade dollar and I thought AU 58 on the Boone. I thought I caught a break in luster on the Boone. I like this type of video. Thanks

    This video came out just in time for me to send off a PCGS MS65 Norse American Medal to NCS. I have never done it before but figured I'd give it a try since the medal has what I think is very ugly toning. I was thinking of dipping it myself but it is the thin variety so it is higher end in value and I would hate to screw it up. It gives me hope seeing how the SLQ turned out for you in this video.

  • @richardmetcalf2346
    @richardmetcalf2346 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting Ben. Is it possible to get a better grade from a previously graded coins if it were restored? For example I have a 1926-D Peace dollar graded by PCGS at a MS 66+ with CAC bean that in my opinion is rather ugly! Would resubmission with the restoration bump it up to an MS 67? I know that's a tough question to answer without seeing the coin, but is it too risky?

    Is conservation something to be done on xf to au coins from the capped bust era to do exactly what it says . Conserve to stop toning and clean off dirt and/or PVC that will cause future damage ?

    • @keithhaynes5348
      @keithhaynes5348 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, do not use cleaners such as EZ-est, unless the coin has terminal toning and mint state. To remove green, PVC, bath the coin in acetone (fingernail polish remover) then pay dry with a towel. Done correctly, TPGs will not detect it.

    ”That iridescent color on the coin ... and that all got gone.” (In referring to the 1936 Daniel Boone commemorative half-dollar) 🤔 😲😳😬 🤣😂🤣 I’m just wondering how Ben, ”The Coin Geek”🤓 came to believe that Daniel Boone ever served in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Congressman ? Of course, he did serve four times as a delegate to the Virginia General Assembly in the latter part of the eighteenth century. However, I’m fairly certain that he and David Crockett were two different people.

    Leave it to NGC to bill you for cleaning a coin and then label it as cleaned, that is ridiculous, conservering a coin is just a fancy word for cleaning it.

    • @yojimblab

      I believe the ‘cleaning’ that lost the grade was because it was done too harshly. Can see hairlines on the coin after conservation (seen in video).
