Be it something like this in the form of buying space so their production workflow is easier, or human costs like on their live show he said has all of his staff in a position where they all own their houses. My point being his businesses make money but he doesn't horde it. It's reinvested into the businesses or the people that power them. I have a ton of respect for that. This was so interesting! :)

That's one of the things i love about LTT, Linus talked great pride that the jobs he provides with his business is providing for his staff. You rarely see that in big business honestly
Agreed. The world needs more of that. There's enough billionaires taking 95+ percent of the profits for themselfs year after year after year. Take a few percent and give back to the people making it possible and a huge chunk into reinvesting and expanding, then a chunk for safety (so people can keep their jobs for a solid amount of time if the business isn't making profits) etc. After a few years of success, you're very entitled to harvest the benefits for yourself as an owner and/or investor to a larger degree, provided the business still stays profitable and the workers get a reasonable share of the profits (we're talking percentages without decimals ofcourse). I, and society in general, dislike people who just wants to grab as much money as possible doing whatever gives the most profit and then leave it behind once they've reached their income goal, without any pride in what they've created.
this is probably the best of the inter-community tours I've seen. the casual, no bs tone is perfect. the behind the scenes look at the building but also at the decision making and process is fascinating. thanks for look behind the curtain.
21:22 I don't get how anybody could complain about this. There's nothing better for integrity and legitimacy of your reviews than non-tech sponsors, because obviously, every time your sponsored by a company from the same industry you make videos about, you automatically enter a moral conflict that's damaging your believability, no matter how subtle. I'm also very glad Linus takes sponsoring so seriously, that despite the "average consumer" not caring at all, he still is careful about how he makes sponsored content, as to not risk his integrity. It's great to hear that.
great points Jora, i agree completely. If all the ads you saw during a youtube video were about similar products that the video content is about; the whole video is always percieved as being done on purpose; a setup for the sponsor, and not the video host.

Did Linus say LMG is spending around 250k CAD on LTX? This was a great video btw, everyone was relaxed and enjoying each others company, and it was extremely interesting to take a peek behind the scenes and see a little bit more of just how much work (and money) goes into making LMG the powerhouse of the tech world that it is.
The original LTX was for the fans of LMG. As it evolved, it is more about the community and to grow the community it is definitely more than just LMG and it's about the relationships you have within the space. That's why you find other creators wanting to come to be a part because they know this is what a Vidcon/E3/CES should be when you have it all rolled up into one. I suspect they will do very well this year and I can't wait to see what next year will be like. Eventually, I would not be surprised if manufacturers show up and do a product announcement at LTX. It only make sense if you know your fan base will be there, and the various content creators will be there, why wouldn't you announce a new product just to get in on the fun and to have a good PR? Whether you think he's a sellout or not I think he's done very well and is continuing to further their craft, and the fact that he's honest and trying to make ethical moves when not being forced to also speaks for itself. So them making an ethical "line in the sand" to me speaks highly of his character.
With capitalism, consumers will often, and given enough time always, pick up on bullshit. That line in the sand is important, because it's also the best way to do business for the long term. Both these guys are a little frustrated because they see shills seemingly getting away with it, but in the end the shills get what they deserve.

A Good studio tour of LMG not done by any of the "i" guys This place is bigger than i thought, and the perception of depth you get on the techlinked set for that small an actual distance is really good
This is a perfectly reasonable expectation if you know Linus Tech Tips. Speaking of knowing Linus, his browser history can tell someone a lot more about you than you'd expect. While this wristband might ensure it'll be deleted in case of an emergency, there is no guarantee that nobody is making a copy as we speak. That's where today's sponsor comes in, Tunnelbear VPN. A VPN or "virtual private network" will take your Internet traffic and have it take a detour through their computers. They will then pretend it is their own traffic to anyone in the outside, allowing you to choose which country you are from. That way nobody can know that it is your Internet history and you will stay safe from any "black hat" hackers or government surveillance. Start your free thirty day trial today and get 10% off with the offer code "Linus" at checkout. Why haven't they hired me yet?
I think people actually care a lot about the difference between a spotlight and a review. I think it's admirable that you make this clear distinction between the 2. I never really noticed it consciously until you talked about it though, but it always felt that way subconsciously. ALso 'Kingpin, the overclocker'. Like Linus doesn't know who Kingpin is :-)
The reason you didn't make the distinction is cos most don't either. Linus is not using proper vocabulary here. Paid shilling or sponsored by would be far more fitting.
4:05 aged like milk... Even if it costs 100 bucks to retest a waterblock that was tested on a unsupported GPU, he does not see how he should justify the additional spending... Oof..
Fun stuff its amazing to see the continued change at LMG. You've also seen what our CNC router is like we have the same model but in a 4' x 8' config. See you at LTX!!!!!
Alex does great work (his videos are always my favourites) but his actual background is mechanical engineering. You can tell he doesn't have a professional background in building things and taught himself most of what he knows about CNCing etc on the job at LTT. It just means we'll get more of that type of content, now from 2 different perspectives.
This is old, but what sort of Mechanical Engineer degree doesn't include a CAM-CNC class? And machine shop classes. Fabrication classes, etc. I know some Universities are just lame excuses to get in a big debt, but an engineer course should have plenty of actual practice besides theory, including on how to actually manufacture things, else is just a pseudo-engineering production/industrial administration of sorts. Or as my mom calls it Paper Engineering! The issue with that specific degree might be few electronics and control/automation theory and practice(still has to have some).
I think that not-so-professional part of LMG helps them keep some of their original charm. It makes them seem human instead of like a mindless machine.
@@caincha This kind of video is not exactly great for Linus' short attention span audience. It looks personal and handcrafted (and not machine-y) because it's not very produced, but it is also very long and boring. When you're making really short, effective and efficient videos targeted at a wide demographic that tends to have a short attention span, it's hard not to make it look overly produced. Linus managed to do it, though, by using self deprecating humor. Not doing that would result in his videos looking professional, sure, but it'd also make his videos look "less human", so it's a decent trade off. To sum it up, Linus making himself look dumb is by design. Without that design, his videos would lose a lot of charm.
@@LapisPebble Yeah, the casual masses happen to be the majority of the viewers and you can see that for yourself by looking at the view numbers. Linus knows this perfectly, and that's why most of his videos are scripted so specifically. It's a good strategy. And like I mentioned earlier, him looking dumb is an act for entertainment purposes (except when he drops something for real, which he exaggerates to further his persona). It's an effective act. People really do think he's a goofy fuck.
Summary: Linus has buckets of cash and he's spending it. But seriously, thank you Steve for what amounts to first class journalism. Your video is a comprehensive exploration of the LMG operations.
The talk about sponsorships and how LMG deals with it day-to-day actually gives a lot of insight into Linus' perspective on the RAID Shadow Legends thing some people got bent out of shape over. Having enough employees to compartmentalize certain aspects of your business is not just efficient, but a logical way of doing business.
This is probably my favorite "PC tech video", two people that are completely passionate about what they do. Completely candid too, everything feels so genuine.
In the extremely unlikely case Linus reads this; I really appreciate the way showcases and reviews are handled, while in the beginning I can still ignore some of the "paid reviews", I do very quickly lose interest as there is just no real information worth listening to. At best it only slightly clouds my judgement of a product, and as a result it just isn't worth watching. Thanks for all the improvements behind the scenes as well, highly appreciated. Thanks for the tour Steve, probably watched half a dozen tours by now, of the same space, but it is still different and interesting every time. With capitalism, consumers will often, and given enough time always, pick up on bullshit. That line in the sand is important, because it's also the best way to do business for the long term. Both these guys are a little frustrated because they see shills seemingly getting away with it, but in the end the shills get what they deserve.
@@MikeMartin-ot9ic Reality is most people don't pick up on bullshit, and to the extent that they do they just don't pay attention to it as normalcy bias kicks.
Oppose capitalism, and oppose communism. 3rd position or gtfo.
@@sharki9876 Always.

alex hampshire fun fact but like 4 days ago Linus revealed the Big Gaming TV and the other stuff is going into the LAN gaming room they made. They showed off the rest of the stuff and almost have all of it done

Steve's zen tempers the extreme energy of Linus, making for the most enjoyable video featuring LMG I have ever seen. Please remain separate, but very occasionally continue to tag team content.
Very cool to see such a relaxed interview/tour
Best Linus Tech Tips studio tour ever. There's been several, all lame. Great job guys!
I like how you took the tour slowly and chatted with Linus, as if you were actually getting a tour instead of jump cuts into each room and the conversation wasn't only about the room itself
Amazing to watch two amazing youtubers working together like friends. You are amazing love to watch LTT and GN.
The tech community is better off with all of us working together. We don't always have to agree, but healthy debate is good for everyone.
@@LinusTechTips I agree because everyone has his point of view and you should listen to others opinions. That's why tech community is amazing because everyone is different and that's amazing. And healthy debates are also fun.
That's why the tech community has thrived overall versus other niches on TH-cam. Everyone lifts each other up & doesn't play the TH-cam drama for clicks game. Even knowing how the tech community is on TH-cam I was still really impressed by how many people took the risk to make a video speaking out when Kyle got that bullshit strike. That was AMAZING.
A Good studio tour of LMG not done by any of the "i" guys
This place is bigger than i thought, and the perception of depth you get on the techlinked set for that small an actual distance is really good
Thanks. Brandon/Riley/Yvonne worked hard on it :)

Is it weird that I was fully expecting a Linus advertising segue? 😂
Why haven't they hired me yet?

How did I miss this one? Wow a lot of work. Amazing collab.
This is not a studio tour, this is an inspirational story
4:56 Lucky the dragon finally located after running away from the Techlinked set
I love Steve's attitude, the whole time he seems really impressed but respectful and asks the right questions.
Honestly the non-tech sponsors are kind of refreshing. It makes his videos feel a bit more.... Mainstream I guess. Hard to explain.
Great tour, nice job
:D
This was probably one of the best video's ive watched in months
honestly this is my first time watching LMG in 60 FPS, thanks Steve
Steve, could you... could you host a TechLinked? :D
That's actually a really good idea

Best Linus Media Group tour. Great seeing the open honest chat.
POV: You're here from the new Gamers Nexus Video
4:05 aged like milk... Even if it costs 100 bucks to retest a waterblock that was tested on a unsupported GPU, he does not see how he should justify the additional spending... Oof..
Yup. Also nice is 21:55 when he clarifies the editorial role and separates that from the bookkeeping.
Fun stuff its amazing to see the continued change at LMG. You've also seen what our CNC router is like we have the same model but in a 4' x 8' config. See you at LTX!!!!!
Watch one Linus video then watch one GN video
"Perfectly balanced, as all things should be".
Linus: "I'm looking for someone with a maker/fabricator"
Alex: "am I a joke to you?"
Barnacules: Pick me!
Watching this after the LTT ethics conundrum.
I thought this was going to be a snore of a video, but this turned out to be a really enjoyable watch all the way through.
i just love how down to earth linus is.
You managed to make LMG looks more professional than they do it themselves in their videos haha
I think that not-so-professional part of LMG helps them keep some of their original charm. It makes them seem human instead of like a mindless machine.
@@CalculatedRiskAK fair enough however this Gamers Nexus video is proof it can be well done and not look like a 'mindless machine'.
@@Maxim0M1 Short attention span audience? Maybe the casual masses, but my favourite content is the weekly podcast they do
@@LapisPebble Yeah, the casual masses happen to be the majority of the viewers and you can see that for yourself by looking at the view numbers.

Linus Tech Tips needs to get up with Adam Savage to help them optimize their workshop
Oh my God that's a good idea
Maybe Linus can tell them to QC their fucking videos too
Adam Savage has a shop where he makes videos. Here they have a studio with a set which they pretend is a shop for the purpose of making videos.
A CNC mill and a lathe.. I'm getting more jealous of the new machines than all the fancy hardware
Great video. Love to see the creators 'community' creating content that pays respect to each other. Looking forward to the LTX cover.
The segway into the thermal grizzly ad spot was perfect.

"We're gonna be there covering it, just like a real show" Sick burn Steve
In the extremely unlikely case Linus reads this; I really appreciate the way showcases and reviews are handled, while in the beginning I can still ignore some of the "paid reviews", I do very quickly lose interest as there is just no real information worth listening to. At best it only slightly clouds my judgement of a product, and as a result it just isn't worth watching. Thanks for all the improvements behind the scenes as well, highly appreciated.
Thanks for the tour Steve, probably watched half a dozen tours by now, of the same space, but it is still different and interesting every time.
Edit: Really enjoyed the conversations, thanks for those as well, interesting to hear all the stuff going on there

Obviously, there's a friendship there. Super relaxed and fun to watch.
17:45 someone: * films youtube video at house *
