It was awesome meeting you guys! Thanks for the education on DSLRs vs. Mirrorless (and everything else). I'm really impressed with how fast you cut down the hours of off-topic rambling into such a fun video. Also, thermal testing on cameras sounds like a super fun challenge. I don't know how useful that information is to the camera world, but I'm curious to hear what your viewers think. It'd be fun to collaborate on something like that! And for viewers, Gerald and Patrick are the real deal! Super knowledgeable and very helpful in teaching me more about studio gear. Thanks again for stopping by. Now to go overheat a camera...
Newer cameras have so many over heating issues. I would love to see proper results on those instead of reviews where they say "video recording for 30mins made the camera hot but not terrible. After an hour it gave heat warning and turned off." that kind of thing is useful if you know what you plan on doing. But it's not specific.
As cameras get more compact overheating tests will become more and more relevant. Collaborate on the soon to be announced Sony A7CII. I'd love to see it.
Hi there ..those sony cameras wont overheat to shut down if u use dummy batteries and external recorder like ninja v or record directly to pc using 10 bit pci express capture cards...or elgato devices
The 4K 60 really stands out on GN, in a good way. I think part of what sells it is that super crisp title animation. You see every bit of the 4K 60 in that title, and it sets the stage for the rest of the video. It’s not for every channel, but it really works well for GN in my opinion.
60 fps live-action footage is a waste of space in my opinion. Video can still be 60 fps though with 60 fps animations and gameplay footage even if live action was shot at 30 fps and look more natural if paired with realistic motion blur achieved by 180 degree shutter rule.
@@mbaksa DSLT if you really want to be anal about it. Otherwise you be talking about SLT tech from the 1960s. (Yes its really that old) Really well built cameras, Sony DSLT lineup were amazing machinery, really miss it.
I did some analysis on the data presented at 24:04 and it does appear to be 104 data points randomly distributed between 1 and 2500 and then sorted randomly. There initially looked to be a bias against values under 500, but plotting a trendline shows an almost flat distribution weight and therefore an R^2 of 0.9937. The excel rand() function gives similar results.
Regarding 60fps vs 30fps, watching this video I immediately knew something was different, then I saw the resolution on the video and it explained why. 60fps is nicer to watch, IMO.

@@JeffMacKinnon This assumes we understand the terms of @GamersNexus lease agreement. In any event, my suggestions could be requested and implemented at the landlord's discretion. However, I'll go a bit further and bet that GN is operating under a Triple Net Lease (NNN) and has assumed responsibility for HVAC. Such terms are favorable in commercial real estate because proper HVAC load calculations must account for heat load variables from tenant-installed equipment/appliances and the number of occupants. Since a tenant’s needs can change significantly over the duration of their lease, such as potentially requiring a higher capacity HVAC, the NNN Lease is the least restrictive option. Without an NNN lease, a tenant's prospects are not only limited by the capacity of the landlord’s provided HVAC, but the tenant could be liable if their HVAC demands exceed the provided system's rating and contribute to failure. Additionally, GN’s substantial construction requirements and capital improvements to the building, including mechanical changes as shown in their recent tour of the new semi-anechoic chamber (HVAC Muffler/Manifold), seem best suited for a Triple Net Lease.

The human vision can see consistent flickering up to about 90 Hz in the right conditions. Fighter pilots are able to recognise images flashed for a single frame at over 200 fps. 60 hz was determined to be a good medium for monitors, why shouldn't 60 fps be for filming. Otherwise you're showing each frame multiple times which just doesn't make sense, at least to me. Our vision has its own image retention process already, why add one artificially
Honestly I never realized Steve's videos were in 60fps until now, and suddenly it makes a lot of sense, yeah, its real smooth lol. I like it don't change that

This was by far the funniest tour. And +1 on legit camera thermal testing, would love to go back and see how ZV-EV1 performs in higher ambient conditions.
I'm always watching TH-cam on my TV, with 7.3 surround sound. That HVAC system was quite annoying in the video, and I haven't even calibrated my 3 subs, to be that much higher, than the other speakers. 4-6 dB, if I remember correctly. I'm also surprised, that the mics used to record the audio, picked up those deep tones that good.
Great video as ever! Steve surprising Gerald simply by having such old gear makes it. The anechoic room is awesome it will be interesting to see what full videos from inside will be like. You should totally get Gamers Nexus to do some temperature testing for camera gear - it can be such a problem in hot (and extremely cold) locations that it can genuinely make a difference to peoples choice of what to buy for cameras, lights and even for fittings and fixtures being too hot or cold to touch and use.
Would love to see camera thermals! It's one of those elusive things that matters more out in the field, but there are so many cameras that overheat with normal usage!
Great video! 11:10 Overheating does need more coverage because cameras can have amazing specifications but in practice limitations like this can be really frustrating. I'm seeing that right now with a Nikon Z30 I picked up recently when outputting 4k through HDMI for a good amount of time. You'd think it could output HDMI forever doing that with a DC coupler (no battery heat being generated) but sadly not the case.
I've actually always loved that GN's videos are 60 fps as I'm one of those *freaks* that genuinely prefers it, and I think it fits really well for both shots of products actually *doing* things as well as the gameplay/benchmark footage they sometimes show

20:57 I forgot to ask Steve, even tho the chamber already does its job by separating the room from noise pollution quite well. Would u gain anything from adding more of the same isolation metal wedges to the outside of the room basically having a second layer but pointed out so it dissipates any sound thats about to hit the chamber before the inner ones dissipate the sound further. or would the increase in isolation be negligible and only be really useful for HIGHLY sensitive instruments? Thanks!
While that technically would increase the soundproofing to some degree it would be a huge waste of space. Those wedges are what about half a meter in length?! Adding just 1-2cm of drywall would give orders of magnitude more soundproofing for a fraction of the extra space needed.
Thermal testing on cameras would actually be extremely interesting and you guys should collaborate to make that happen as soon as possible if you haven't already because that's such a cool thing to know like will my camera break down if I tried to record in space? Put it in a chamber with liquid nitrogen and find out for me. 5 million views right there.
For any GU folks who aren't familiar with Steve and GN, they are the absolute gold standard in PC tech media and hardware reviews. Lol. Complaining about 75° being too warm while wearing a hoodie. I have my air-conditioning at full blast for three hours and I’m lucky to get my studio to 76°. But I guess that’s the desert for you. 😆 fun studio tour.
Def looking forward to those thermal reviews. Would be great to get a high quality, reliable set of metrics so that we moved away from "well it works for me".
What's wrong with 4k 60hz? YT supports 60hz so why go lower? 24 to 60 is like night and day, and no-one ever said "gosh this 60fps is too much, I wish it was only 24fps". Hell, you can lower the settings on your YT of you really want.
I like that Steve and the people at GN don't let their old equipment go to waste. @GamersNexus That Panasonic AG - UX180 was like my dream camera, awesome to see someone using it still.

Ah, I spot the Silverstone Alta F2, waiting eagerly for the GN review. Nice 'Roast' Gerald
60 fps is perfect for a PC focused channel. GN isn’t a film maker LOL
Legit expertise combined with an almost pathological commitment to journalistic integrity...they should be stop #1 for anyone looking to get into PC building, or even for PC veterans who want real data and thoughtful analysis. Best in the business, these guys.
Watching Steve in 24fps is a totally different experience.
Lol. Complaining about 75° being too warm
while wearing a hoodie. I have my air-conditioning at full blast for three hours and I’m lucky to get my studio to 76°. But I guess that’s the desert for you. 😆
fun studio tour.

Love these videos. I just finished reviewing that Silverstone case in the background. Would love you to come do a tour of mine once I move :p
Wow this collab energy was awesome! So good!!!!
I LOVE this! Nerding out with two of my favourite tech youtubers!
I had asked for this after the MKBHD one, so happy it actually happened!
Can someone explain why you would film in 30 fps instead of 60?
Money/Time
60 is better.
Def looking forward to those thermal reviews. Would be great to get a high quality, reliable set of metrics so that we moved away from "well it works for me".
Got here as a GN subscriber, awesome video and colab. Would definitely be interested in more of those!
I for one greatly appreciate the oh so smooth 4k60 footage Gamers Nexus puts out.
What's wrong with 4k 60hz? YT supports 60hz so why go lower? 24 to 60 is like night and day, and no-one ever said "gosh this 60fps is too much, I wish it was only 24fps". Hell, you can lower the settings on your YT of you really want.
This is cool to see you both in one shot! @GamersNexus and @GeraldUndone
Honestly just super chill quality vibes. 10/10
I like that Steve and the people at GN don't let their old equipment go to waste. @GamersNexus That Panasonic AG - UX180 was like my dream camera, awesome to see someone using it still.
We neeed that collab YES please do it as also the Anechoic chamber sounds so otherworldly don't know how to describe it
These videos are always such a welcome surprise and just need to see more and more of them
There's some trash talk on 60 FPS, but I clocked the low framerate GN intro instantly. It was much worse. Bigger number = more better.
You wore a hoody in an NC summer!!!! what are you thinking?
I can’t help but be jealous of people with space. Like, room to move and flail and stuff. 🤤
I also really admire the dedication to using “old” gear as long as possible. Awesome.
Awesome video and you guys have great chemistry on camera. Woukd love another video in the future. Camera thermals is interesting.
