Same. I'm a multistan but SHINee has a high shelf just for themselves. I don't even include them in favorite group rankings. They're SHINee. Period. They don't need a ranking.

    1. SHINee is one of the very few groups(old and new all groups😅) who can geniunely sing very well while performing on stage. There is a popular saying, SHINee eats their disk😂 No offense to the other groups btw. Because it takes so much hard work to achieve this.
    2. And the song Lucifer is the origin of complicated dances of Kpop. It was known for being one of the hardest dances to cover in kpop for a long time.
And thank you for SHINee reaction😊💗

So glad you are reacting to more SHINee, thank you!
"Ring, Ding, Dong" came out in October of 2009. Taemin was 16 then. The only issue with RDD is the heavy auto-tune which, as you now know, SHINee didn't need AT ALL. However it was a "thing" back then. The best way to hear RDD is during one of their live performances. Here is the live performance of "Lucifer" + "RDD" together: th-cam.com/video/mtFK7FxKdLs/w-d-xo.html (haven't been any copyright issues that I know of). Back in the day, listening to RDD was banned from schools during S. Korea college entrance exam period because it was so addictive, the kids couldn't concentrate on their tests.
"Lucifer" (2010) was a game-changer for the entire industry. First, it was considered the hardest choreo in Kpop at that time. They combine a lot of different dance genres together to make up the choreo - especially the tutting which was not very common in Kpop at that time. It makes me wonder if Taemin suggested it because he was a street dancer and proficient at tutting at 10 before even entering SM. Then you combine that with the extreme synchronicity and footwork SHINee was known for and, yeah, it was a surprise for many. Second, the dance practice for this song is what made DPs a thing, became one of the trends SHINee started, and why we have them as a staple (almost a requirement) now. The song is called "Lucifer" because Lucifer in the Bible was known as the tempter that brought down the human race through tempting Eve to sin. This song implies that there is a woman or memory of a woman tempting/teasing them to the point that it's becoming a cage/trap. They become so drunk on love (loverholic) that they become mindless robots (robotronic). This song was so popular that it even was played in the US show series "Lucifer" ( season 3; ep. 13): My most favorite live performance of "Lucifer" is their performance at their Tokyo Dome "DXDXD" concert: th-cam.com/video/CuFl8BjMCKc/w-d-xo.html It's a rock remix with a dance break.
"Atlantis" is the title song for the repackaged "Don't Call Me" album of 2021. "Don't Call Me" was a huge success album after a 3-year hiatus due to 3 of them being in the military. The "Atlantis" album offered three new songs: "Atlantis", "Days & Years", and "Area" plus the other 9 of DCM. The original "Don't Call Me" album had 9 original songs and was a masterpiece and their top grossing album to date, beating out their previous top album, "Lucifer". I think you would really love the MV for "Don't Call Me".
SHINee are always best live. They are performance kings....and their hair is always on point for their concerts...lol. Looking forward to more SHINee reactions!

As you may know, Atlantis is a mythical city that is part of a story within Greek mythology, referring to the Lost City of Atlantis. The story of Atlantis is most often depicted as a utopian society on an island that became submerged and lost in the middle of the ocean. SHINee's MV is referencing the lost city of Atlantis, so it's supposed to look like they are visiting Atlantis at the bottom of the sea. The whole MV is a reference to the story of Atlantis, which is why you see them selling seafood and why they are underwater, etc.
As I interpret the MV, the convenience store is a cover for the fact that it sits on top of a portal to the city of Atlantis. To the average person, the store just looks like a regular store, but if you are in on the secret you know that if you head to the storage room or basement, etc. you will find a magical elevator/submarine that will take you to "Atlantis."
I think that move in the choreography where Key and Minho make the circle is them gathering all their power and love and they are blasting it all to the fans (Shawols) or they are sending all their love to the girl who they are singing about in the song, etc. Like a superhero who is summoning all their powers. Because the SHINee members are sort of supposed to have power as the keepers of the portal to "Atlantis," etc. Plus, if I had to guess, it also might be something linking SHINee to SM's Universe. Most of SM's groups' storylines are connected in some way and they are all part of one big story.
For example, I think the soda can we see appear in Key's hand in "Atlantis" is connected to the soda can we see in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. (However, I'm not yet sure whether the can magically pops into his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ..." or if it appears in "Hate That ..." because Key brought it from "Atlantis." )
Because Minho writes all his own rap sections in SHINee's songs they are all very meaningful, and are strategically placed in the song for a reason. If you pay attention to his lyrics you will see they have a lot of deep meaning and they enhance the story and add more depth to the song. For example, the long sss sound you hear at the end of his rap lines in "Atlantis" are supposed to mimic the sound of waves as they crash on shore or against the rocks, etc. Minho is actually quite poetic when it comes to his songwriting.
You should check out the behind the scenes MV shoot for "Atlantis",
th-cam.com/video/jn6qkSNro9A/w-d-xo.html, to really see how detailed everything in the MV was.
Fun fact: Although all the aqua blue you see in this MV is supposed to represent water and the city of Atlantis, because SHINee's fan color is pearl aqua, all the aqua blue and green colors you see in the MV also represent SHINee as a group and their connection to their fans.
Also, SHINee will forever be a group of 5, so, they always make sure to include Jonghyun, in everything they do. So if you pay attention to the choreography when the members put their arms on each others' shoulders, you see Taemin stretches his arm out as if he is resting it on an invisible person next to him, which is thought to be a nod to the fact that this is where Jonghyun would be, and even in other parts of the choreography they leave a wide gap in the middle, which fans also think was done as a reference to Jonghyun's spot in the group. Jonghyun was almost always the center position with everything SHINee does.
Yes, all the members of SHINee have amazing high note abilities. Even Minho, who is the main rapper and has the deepest voice out of all of them, has been known to hit some impressive high notes on occasion. That is what makes SHINee so outstanding and why they are so highly respected in the industry. They are idols' idols and legends of legends for a reason. However, if you are impressed with Onew's high note in "Atlantis," just wait until you hear his cover of the song "Friend" in concert from way back in the early days of SHINee. Onew holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch at 40+ seconds. I'm not even exaggerating. SHINee are known as vocal kings for a reason.

How I interpret the story in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV is, the song is about a sort of love at first sight and thoughts of that person keep ringing through your head, so much so that you start to become obsessed with them. It's more than just protecting the girl or your love, but it's about wanting to have her all to yourself and not allowing anyone else to come between you, etc. (As the English part of the lyrics says, "Fantastic, elastic ..." because thoughts of that person are constantly bouncing around in your head.)
In the MV, if you notice, at one point, you see all the members dressed in white and they are standing in an all white room looking into the mirror. However, the image they see in the mirror is not their reflection, but what seems to be their alter ego or inner self because you see their mirror images with brooding expressions and they have wings. But their wings are not white like an angel who is pure and good, they are grey like angels of darkness. So, maybe this is showing how their thoughts are not a pure and innocent love, but one of passion and possession, etc. You see them in the white room with the white clothes because I see that as showing how they are hiding their true selves -- on the outside people think they look innocent and pure, but once you get to know them they have far less pure intentions. When in their black and red outfits this is more their true selves. The only explanation I can see as to why they are shown lighting the candles without even touching them is a way to make it clear that they are different then what they seem and they may have "magical powers" that can be used to attract the girl and make her theirs, etc.
I interpret the butterfly they talk about in the lyrics, and the one you see them with in the MV, to represent the girl and how she is beautiful, and fragel and flits around in their life attracting them and distracting them, etc and they want to capture her and make her theirs.
It is also thought that maybe SM is now using the butterfly to connect the storylines between SM's groups. Some theories think that maybe SHINee's butterfly is connected to the butterfly we see in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs from 2012, which could also be connected to NingNing's butterfly in aespa's storyline from 2020, and it could even be connected to the butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, etc. The butterfly is thought to possibly represent the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline and could be the butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" video, which would help to connect all of SM's groups' storylines together. Although SHINee's storyline my not have originally been designed to connect to anything outside of their group, I think SM has been using things from their older groups' MVs as "happy coincidences" in order to draw everyone into their SM Culture Universe storyline.
Beyond that, I don't really have an explanation of anything else that is happening in the "Ring Ding Dong" MV. Most of it I interpret as just part of the aesthetic of what was the new cool think and what they were doing with MVs in 2009.
The boys' hair and clothing styles and the aesthetic of the MV was supposed to give them more of a bad boy image, to sort of contrast the fact that when they debuted with "Replay" in 2008 they had a boy next door image and they were given the title as the nation's younger boyfriends -- people had a pure and wholesome image of them -- so they wanted to show that as SM's experimental boy group, people should never expect them to stay the same. SHINee will forever be changing up their image to show many different sides of themselves and all different styles of music and dance. "Ring Ding Dong" was showing a new side of SHINee. This was only SHINee's second comeback after debut, so it established their role as the ever changing and evolving group that was expected to keep setting trends and coming up with new concepts, styles and sounds.
Fun Fact: Minho's long hair and Jonghyun's "Lion" hairstyle in "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic look. But Minho always hated this hairstyle, LOL. He has never liked having long hair. He begged SM to allow him to cut his hair and it took a few weeks before they would let him do it. They made him wait until they were done promoting for this album because their hairstyles were part of the album's concept. And therefore, Minho has refused to ever grow his hair out again. ;P Also, almost all of SM's boy groups had similar hairstyles during this time period. :D Take a look at Super Junior or TVXQ in 2009. Their hair looked like this too. hehehe. This was just sort of the look for Korean entertainers back in the day. SHINee were setting tends even with their hair.
As you discovered, "Ring Ding Dong," is one of SHINee's most popular songs.
This song is part of the era when auto tune was brand new and it was the new cool thing that everyone was using in their new songs. SHINee was ahead of their time when this song came out and it blew people away for its sound and style, which many had never heard before. :D This is totally the look and sound that was just becoming the new it thing back in 2009.
As others may have mentioned, "Ring Ding Dong" is such an iconic song and it's so catchy that it has been said that in Korea this song is banned from being played anywhere or listened to during college entrance exam time. When it first came out students complained that the song would get stuck in their heads and they couldn't concentrate on their studies or on the test. :D
This is also one of SHINee's iconic choreographies and it is one of the dances that every rookie group in the industry, both boy groups and girl groups, are required to learn and know, and most have covered the song and dance at least once in their career even still today.
If you want to hear the song without the auto tune then you need to hear them perform it live in concert. Try their live MBC music festival performance of "Ring Ding Dong" in 2016, th-cam.com/video/_lYurocLpi8/w-d-xo.html. SHINee's songs are always way different performed live. You will see how SHINee has grown.

In SHINee's "Lucifer" MV the "smoke" or "light trail" you see is supposed to represent the aura of a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lines in the song say, "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (They are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) In other words, the woman or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles.
In the MV you see them trying to fight against Lucifer's powers and resist her attempts to try to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why in the choreography you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot. For example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them, and they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. (FYI: That vibration you saw them do is 100% them actually shaking like that, there aren't any camera tricks. If you pay attention when they perform Lucifer live, you will see them do that exact same thing. :D)
LOL we have no idea why they had to be dancing in front of a sports car, but that was kind of an iconic thing that Kpop companies did back then in a lot of their MVs, The group would dance around a fancy car to show off their coolness and to give the video a more futuristic, expensive looking aesthetic.
"Lucifer" was released in 2010, so this was just the look that a lot of MVs had back then, in part because everyone was following SHINee's lead. Just take a look at TVXQ's, Super Junior's, Infinite's or 2PM's MVs, etc. from around that time and you will see a similar look and style. SHINee was setting trends in the industry with 'Lucifer."
As trendsetters it is SHINee's job to introduce the next song style and dance trend to the industry, and when SHINee has a comeback the industry takes note and follows suit. It is said that within 3 months of SHINee's comeback you will see that same sound, style and dance trend being duplicated across the industry for both boy groups and girl groups. That's how influential SHINee is.
I'm not sure why people are often so thrown by their hairstyles and outfits in this MV. :D I think they are actually all pretty cool for doing something different that sets them apart from everyone else in the industry. That is what makes SHINee legends and why "Lucifer" is such an iconic song and dance. You're not going to remember a group or a song if they look and sound the same as everyone else, you remember them for standing out and not being afraid to be unique.
SHINee are also known for never being afraid to experiment with everything they do, including their style, and as the fashionista and stylist of the group, Key is always looking for ways to be unique, so his head was really shaved on the one side. What you see is his hair was bleached blond on the side and then shaved down to his scalp. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. That's why Key's style is often just straddling the edge of outrageous, but somehow always manages to look cool.
Fun fact: I think one reason why Minho's hair is so short at this time is because their previous comeback was with their song "Ring Ding Dong," and all the members had pretty long, shaggy hairstyles. However, Minho has never liked having long hair. So, I think for "Lucifer" Minho decided to rebel and go really short.
This was also the era where Taemin had long hair and it made him one of the most popular of the members at the time, especially with their Japanese fans. The Japanese culture really embraces men with long hair and the members said that he was one of the most popular at the time because of his style. Taemin with long hair is so iconic and many in the fandom were really sad when he eventually cut his hair.
So, in this MV, Taemin had just turned 17. Onew and Jonghyun are 20 and Key and Minho are 18.
With SHINee's experimental concept, nothing they do will ever be like anything they have ever done before and that includes all the songs on each album. Every song and MV will be completely different from each other with a whole different, look and style every time. Whenever SHINee releases something new, the only thing we expect is that it will be a brand new sound, look and dance style that we have never seen before. That's why their discography is so diverse and why they are able to continue to stay relevant even after more than 14 years.
If you want to see where SHINee truly shines, if you haven't yet, you have to check out their iconic performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert. Check out their performance at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul from 2014, th-cam.com/video/Fm5n8Q2XO34/w-d-xo.html. This is a perfect example of how you can tell they are singing live and killing it every time. SHINee doesn't need auto tune, and if you hear them perform the song live, they often don't use it.
"Lucifer" is actually known as one of the most difficult songs and dances to cover because of its tutting and popping and for the fact that it has a very fast paced beat with dance moves that are very sharp and precise which are designed to hit every beat of the song. And the song itself is very complicated with the songs wide range of notes and flow.
Many amateurs have thought "Lucifer" looks like one of SHINee's more simple songs and dances. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated than they thought. It only looks and sounds simple, because SHINee makes it look that way. Check out this clip of SHINee teaching a group of actors and comedians "Lucifer" as part of a challenge on the variety show "Invincible Baseball Team," th-cam.com/video/0V02cQwYLMQ/w-d-xo.html. It's funny because when they came to meet SHINee to start the practice, Jonghyun asked them why they chose this song of all songs, and they said because it looks manly and they thought it was fairly easy to cover. But the first thing Jonghyun said to them, while laughing, was "oh no, actually it's one of our more difficult choreography and it took us extra time to really perfect it." :D

You definitely should check out the dance practice. SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever released specifically for fans. SHINee is the group that started the trend and their "Lucifer" dance practice video is why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D It was the very first dance practice video to go viral. Back then dance practice videos were filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SM realized that fans were starting to try and copy SHINee's choreography, so they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to do the same and show off their choreography by releasing dance practices too.

These songs were released during the era of autotune lol. The boys sound amazing without it, but it was definitely what was trendy during that time.
