I bought the 99 for the massive bass and non fatiguing treble, and I got exactly that, I don't really care about the rest. People can tolerate different things. Some bloated bass is no issue for me, but ear piercing treble is a no no.
I have used the Meze daily for several years and can vouch for the comfort and durability. Before I had several other brands that did not hold up to so much use. I listen to jazz and so I find the bass good as it is a foundation to most jazz groups.
The gold accents are optional. They are also available with silver accents. It might be the shape of my head, but if you wear these headphones for a couple of hours, the memory foam gives in so much, that the drivers start pressing against the ears and after a few months of wearing them while working I actually had bruises on my ears. Also as high quality the materials and the manufacturing are, I cannot fathom what Meze was thinking, when they chose PU leather for the ear pads. After a few years the PU leather on my pads started to crumble and I had to replace the pads. Overall I am not very happy with that purchase.
I can try band the iron arc extend a little to reduce clamping force to a minimum and with this is way more comfortable and also reduce a little bass pressure to the ear and make meze more balanced cans..try it
I'm using the Meze 99 with a Schiit audio lyr and a tung-sol tube. It scaled up the 99 so much, that the only nit pick now, might be a bit heavy bass on some material. Overall? Non-fatiguing, great slam, killer for the price. They also look beautiful.
Great video! I run my 650’s on the Xduoo 604 tube amp ( all balanced) and it gives a better soundstage and an increase in detail. 650’s scales well with tubes or a better amplifier.😎
hello, for all multimedia purpose and pure sound quality which you prefer more becouse now i have meze classic at home but also i have portable dac amp 1250mw into 32ohm tri tk2 which no problem drive hd650....can you help which in general have better sound for all purpose cans also gaming online and single player games? Thanks man. I really wanted to know about the soundstage of Meze. I have a closed back Marshall major 3 and semi open Samson sr850. I really want a headphone with warm and comfortable sound signature and with good sound stage. I will be using it with Shanling UA1.
Soundstage is very impressive for a closedback. It's wider than the HD 650. The only thing you need to keep an eye on with the 99 Classics is whether you can handle the bass which extends quite a bit and there's a bit of bleed into the mids.

I've been using 99 Classics since they were released. The only things I've done are switched to a 4.4mm SPC cable to help tighten up the bass a smidge and maybe a little air swapped out the parts for Brainwavz angled sheepskin which I find help with comfort and also shortly increase the soundstage.
@@KylosgrandeYes, I've still got the BW Sheepskin pads on and am enjoying them. Since they don't cost too much, I'd suggest getting both the angled BW Hybrid and Sheepskin pads and seeing which you prefer. Both should help increase soundstage, but it's up to you whether you like tonality better with the Hybrid or Sheepskin pads.

I was pretty dissapointed with the Meze 99. I love bass/sub, hell most of my headphones are quasi-basshead woodies - I don`t mind a mid-bass hump, but…these were just sloppy. Muddy. So I ordered the meze silver balanced 4.4 cable, which (believe it or not) it cleaned it up a bit, but not enough. Kept the cable (great with the Focal Radiance/Denon d5200) but shipped back the 99`s. That being said, I know a lot of people who just love them to death.
The difference in peoples opinions about these headphones comes from the earpads. They changed a couple of years ago because the earpads company meze workef with dissapeared.. since then meze makes their own 2 types of earpads. One bigger earpad and one smaller. The bigger one is supposed to be better for comfort. But because the headphones are tuned for the original earpads ( wich are small as hell ) the new bigger earpads sounds terrible. Its just not how its tuned. The small earpads that meze makes sounds great and way more like the original earpads. But you gotta have small ears like me to enjoy those. There is a really good headphone in there ( just read the reviews from 2015 and 2016 when the original earpads where still on there ) The have character like little else. Like listening to vinyl instead of digital. I think i will never get rid of the meze 99 because it has a special place for me and i hope more people start pad swapping with the meze 99s to discover their true potential. I read online that the microsuede brainwavz pads do wonders as well for this headphone. Brings back the sound and the comfort.
Update: the brainwaves dont do something good for this headphone. Nothing sounds as good as the small earpads. Im gonna order the silver plated cable from meze when i have the money for it. That cable seems like the best audible upgrade these headphones can get.
If any new headphone CAN'T stage & image better than 600/650, they need to be burned immediately LOL. One of the worst phones ever for spatial accuracy. I would take L300 and/or 660 over 600/650 any day.

I have the HD 650 and 600.. My monarch and clairvoyance IEM both both blow away the HD series. Even my feel FH3 I believe is better than the HDs
