- When you create Actions correctly in Photoshop, they can become an extremely powerful tool. Not only will they help to speed up your editing workflow but they can also be exceptionally useful to new photographers. Every time you learn a new technique, create an Action for it. By working like that, the Actions panel can become your “Photoshop memory” in which you store everything you learn. As you develop as a retoucher and refine your panel, it will become an indispensable tool.
First things first, you need to learn how to make Actions correctly. There are a couple essential things you must do to ensure they work every time. That’s what this video covers.

Thank you for sharing this Max. Very interesting for me that has not yet touch the Actions in PS. Very clear and well explained.
Wow ! I have a lot to learn yikes! ! I did not even know this was a thing !! Im just learning product photography , editing is overwhelming atm !
I'm so glad I found this channel. You've blown my mind with this one!
Great tutorial thank you. Can I ask what is that powdery surface made of?
Of course! I can't remember exactly what it was but it needs to be a very fine powder. I went to my local DIY shop and I think I ended up getting some kind of cement mix. It may have been something else but it was definitely in that section. Sorry I can't be more precise.
Square Mountain Awesome thank you.
thanks, finally got the right way, I always wondered why my actions work sometimes!
Great video! even creating advanced actions i still learned a lot with your video. thanks!
Thank you for showing the wrong way of creating action and the correct way. Will be watching this a few more times for sure. You are very good at explaining why it’s done in the way that you are demonstrating with such detail. Just subscribed.👍🏼
If i made a action saving my photos edits to a particular folder ... Ans then if i opened any other folders.... Then when i play my action it doesnt open the same folder i assigned whislt creating the action
Hi, Max! Can you play your FS action several times in the same document (with different settings)? I've recorded mine and have a problem - it messes up the layers, just as you've shown at the beginning, though I've used only the keyboard & menu to record it properly. I guess, it's the naming problem of the Apply image command. If I rename the layers, it works fine again.
I seem to be able to, I just tested it quickly, but I did notice a slight exposure change when running it again so would need to understand why that occurred. I did have to close the group before running it again but there was no issues with layers or any of the things you describe...
@@maxbridge8921 do you use the Apply image command? earlier, when I used Gaussian blur + High pass, I didn't have this problem, because I selected the layers from the keyboard. But Gaussian blurs the edges, so I don't use it anymore.
NICE
thankyou soooomuch sir
Excellent 👍 is there a way to sort actions in button mode?
It's been a long time since I've done that but from memory can you re-order them in the "non" button mode? If not, I'll have to double check
The best way is to add shortcuts for most usefull actions. I wrote names of actions on my keyboard buttons fron F2 to F12 - it is the easiest to use tham and don't forget the right button 😉
I am now using the Actions Panel that comes with TK8 in which I can sort actions and also they launch with 1 Click
i know it is out of context, but whihc kind of material do you use for the background?
People have asked me that a lot and I always forget exactly what it was. It was some kind of building material I can't remember which. Something like cement mix but not. Sorry I can't be more specific. If you go to your local DIY shop you'll find something that works.
Pure gold
Thank youuuuuuu🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 so much max i have been struggling and frustrated
Really useful and helpful. Thanks very much. I'd love to see one on fixing cracks all over an image that would take to long to paint in and wonder if your actions might be useful in that scenario?
How did you create the backgorund for this image?
I can't remember the exact powder I used. It was something from a DIY shop, I think some kind of white tiling cement. I know I tried flour but wasn't happy with the effect. The colour was added in Photoshop
so usefull
Hello!
It has not worked for frequency separation. Can you help me with that? Please!!
Hey, can you be more specific, what's not worked exactly? Thanks
Do you have your actions somewhere, in order to do download them?
What does inverting the D and B layers achieve? Would you mask back in the parts you want to see from each layer back in like you would with any mask tool?
Phoebe Solomon - inverting the white mask just turns it black, in other words the black mask hides the effect. Just as you said, it works in the usual way, when you paint white on the black layer mask it reveals what's inside. In this case that's the dodge or burn curve. Hope that makes sense
Hey Max,
as I'm into PS since about 20 years, it's really hard to find stuff that I don't really know - and of course I knew about actions and how to use and create them. I don't like actions though, so I never dug deep into them and your quick video showed me a bunch of new possibilities which will make me use actions on a regular basis from now on, I guess! Great and very valuable vid!
Thanks! Happy I could show you the value of Actions. If you spend a lot of time in PS, creating your own set of Actions is extremely helpful. People have asked if I'd ever sell mine and who knows maybe one day but the real value of Actions comes when you craft your own. Much more valuable than purchasing someone else's
LOL, what have you been doing in PS for 20 years without actions? 😄 you've wasted a lot of time
I'm breaking my head to solve a problem with an Action. In my Action I create a group with the elements inside the group, then I minimize the group so that the components are not shown, only if I open the group. But every time I apply the action, the group I created comes open and not closed the way I created it. Could you help me to resolve this?
you should create all the layers first, then select them and create a group (as shown in this video, rewatch it carefully)
The best way is to add shortcuts for most usefull actions. I wrote names of actions directly on my keyboard buttons from F2 to F12 - it is the easiest method to use actions and don't forget the right button 😉
How to Get this Perfect Actions?
I want action please
Can’t view what you are doing on the screen in a 360 resolution.
Give me Photoshop action
Too fast to follow without constant playback
is not full pro action, in real work this not function
talks so fast, so much, presses things without saying where they are...
Way too fast
