Hey guys! So what's the difference between this method and using a Curves Adjustment Layer with Luminosity Blend Mode?
First of all, thank you so much for your question. It's a great one, and I would have had the same if I were you. To know the difference, the best thing to do is this: Using the Horizontal Curve method shown in the video, move the points on the extreme left and right, up and down (as done in 11:32 on the extreme left). Then, do the same with just a Curves adjustment layer with Luminosity Blend Mode. You'll notice the difference straightaway of how subtle and natural this method is. However, if you are looking for something extreme and a little more manual control, you should go with Curves with Luminosity. There are hundreds of ways of doing the same thing in Photoshop, you need to find out what works for you :)
    Best Wishes! And Keep Creating!
    - Unmesh

I taught photoshop classes for 3 years and I still learned something new from this video, namely the fact that adjustment layers are read by photoshop as virtual, dynamic copies of the layers below. it's an advanced, mostly negletable detail that does give some insight on how to create new effects. good job, man.

Most of them making tutorials without examples of the pictures (photos) except if they offer premium tutorials to buy. It's difficult to learn without same materials that they using and showing. This is an amazing way of changing the luminosity without affecting the colors. Just a small thought I had while watching this video. Can I use this technique to locally dodge and burn the skin while retouching? This way I might not be affecting the local color hue changes and can only manipulate the skin luminosity. Please share your thoughts on this if you find it relevant.

Nice dude! I use curves on luminosity blend mode to edit brightness without effecting colours, but after a quick test this method actually preserves much more of the colours - where my original method actually de-saturated them slightly. Also the changes on soft light are more gradual so it feels more controlled.

We can do this with another way.
Step 1:Alt+click on create new layer
Step 2:Change the mode to soft light
Step 3:Check the fill with soft light neutral color box
    Viola!
Now you can use white brush on the newly created layer to brighten the image and black brush to darken.
You can also brighten or darken any color of the image by choosing the respective color brush.

50% of grey is 127,127,127 not 128, because 0 is calculated like first so last 225 is 256.

      What's the middle of 0-3? 1 or 2? What's the middle of 0-255? 127 or 128?

    • @DusanTomic2
      @DusanTomic2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Myntekt I told this already. We have 256 values of red and 256 values of green and 256 values of blue, first values is 0 and last is 255 (not 256) so math/half middle is 127/127/127.

yeah but 256 values is an even number, so the middle of 0-255 is actually 127.5 . 128 numbers from 0-127 and 128-255

    Thanks for the video.
You look like a CG character for some reason. Something is very uncanny... Plastic surgery? Weird Framerate? Lighting issues? Filter on the camera? Combination of all of them? Weird...
