Just picked up a 45 M winch after researching all the different makes and models. Since there are no dealers in my area within reasonable driving distance, this video was the deciding factor to get the Hudson/Uniforest winch. This video was very well presented and provided an excellent, detailed overview of the setup and operation. The build quality and fit and finish are very good. Also, the winch turned out to be heavier and stouter than appears in the video.
Thank you very much for the wonderful review!!! Very happy to hear you are pleased with your Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest skidding winch. We truly appreciate your business!
Sorry to hear about the damage from the storm. Hopefully just down tree and no damage to your structure. Yes, these Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest winches/grapples are very handy for storm recovery. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 800-765-7297. We will be praying for all of you in Florida effected by these powerful storms.
Heck of a Lesson. Thank you for this video. Covered lots of basic safety rules, well explained and great for beginners like myself. Really appreciate your content.
Bought a 45H from Hudson several years ago and I love it. It’s an awesome piece of logging equipment. The remote makes it easier to use when away from the tractor.
The remote is very handy and well liked by our customers! Thank you for your business and it is great to hear that you love your Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest 45H skidding forestry winch!
Thank you John for taking the time to put this video together. The owner's manual leaves a lot to be desired. When it becomes necessary I will now know how to adjust the clutch without trying to decipher the manual. I took the PTO cone and plate off in order to reach the drive chain away from the clutch, and lightly oiled it with Lucas non-sling chain lube. The winch is working fine, hope I don't start having problems with slippage.
Thanks for the video!!!! Have had one for about 2 years now and love it. Hard to imagine not having it to be honest. Good to see that I was using it right, as the instructions sent with it aren't much.
After using a great deal the winch is still working fine, pulling logs, tree felling, move buildings, a great piece of equipment for a small operation.
Glad to hear that you like your Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest 55M forestry logging winch. Would love to see pics or a video of you working in the woods with it if you ever get time. We appreciate your business!
I purchased a 45M two years ago from my Hudson dealer in Pell City, Alabama. Its been a real workhorse and I enjoy using it. Thank you for making this much needed video as I too found the manual rather lacking. It states the chain tension should be adjusted if needed after the first 10 hours of operation but is not clear on the procedure. It would really be great if you could make another demonstrating how to check and adjust it. Thanks for your help.
Great Video, wish it was out when I got the 35M, would have saved me from having to replace (actually you guys replaced it) the cable! You are 100% correct about the manual...Uniforest should use this video instead of the manual!
Thank you for your comment. We are constantly listening to our equipment owners on what kind of videos they would like to see. This was made from requests from our customers. We appreciate your business of the Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest 35M logging forestry winch!
Would love to see info on that as well. My winch is an older model 35E (predecessor to the 35M) the brake linkage is a bit different. Would love to see some guidance on adjusting and maintaining it.
Few things… 1) when reassembling the driveshaft make sure yokes are phased correctly. Some shafts only go together one way some do not. 2) lift winch up and down slowly while observing telescoping of pto shaft. Some tractor 3 point geometry shortens shaft while lifting or swinging sideways. 3) hitch is dumb in my opinion. Why not make it a 2” receiver. Not everyone is pulling a pintle hitch log trailer. I made a 2” adapter to use 2” receiver hitches 4) if you have the wireless remote make sure electrical connection is made for US tractor electrical trailer connect.
Very informative video! Been skidding for a few years with mine and it makes quite the difference in a small scale operation. In the video, you were describing the device at the end of the cable (Wedge lock cable holder). Do you have any more information on it or where it can be purchased? I frayed the end of my cable and eventually broke it as we have a ton of rock on our property. Would be great to have as a backup. I am in Ontario Canada.
I have 35 acres of about 7 year old Loblolly pines in the western Florida panhandle in very sandy (soft) soil. Trunks currently vary from 2' to 6". The time is fast approaching when I'll have to thin out these trees. Unfortunately they were planted in a very haphazard fashion (planters must have been enjoying very liquid lunches) leaving no room to drive our tractor (Kubota L6060 Grandcab) through without severely scratching it up and/or breaking glass. I have a small front loader mounted Tree Puller which works OK on trees up to max 4" but struggles with anything larger. I have wondered whether one of your tree skidder winches (with sufficient pulling power) may be used to thin a path through our trees just by pulling them out of the ground. The tallest are around 20' high. One of the problems I've been having with the Tree Puller is the jaws cut into the trunks and the backwards/forwards motion, sometimes necessary to loosen the roots from the soil and pull the tree, slices the smaller ones in two. The tree skidder would be used for literally wrenching young pines out of the ground to create trails wide enough for the tractor to pass through to bush hog very thick Yupon Holly and other tall unwanted shrubbery.
We would be happy to talk to you about this! Give us a call whenever you are free 800-765-7297. Would love to have another one of our winches in Flordia!
Then your winch is most likely not adjusted properly, or the clutch is glazed. I've used my Uniforest 35E (predecessor to the 35M) and a Farmi 351. Pulling specs are the same, and in actual use they pull the same.
Excellent instructional and good looking winch. I’ve been seriously considering a wallenstein being I’m up here in Canada but I’ll definitely take a look at your website Do you ship to Canada ?? Thanks again
We sure do ship to Canada! We do have some dealers in Canada as well. I will include the dealer link below. Thank you for looking at Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest forestry logging winches! www.hud-son.com/dealers/

Thank you for your post. We do not add pricing in the videos as pricing changes and than we do not have to redo the video. Would be happy to talk to you about current pricing! 800-765-7297. Have a great day!
One of the reasons I ended up with the Uniforest winch is because it was less expensive than the alternative brands available in my area. None of the brands are cheap, but if you do any significant amount of work in the woods, once you own one, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it.
This is the video I wish my winch producer @krpan6273 made. Very similar design to the Krpan. So much information in here missing from the manual. Wish I'd watched this video first. Thank you!
Great job on showing me how to set up PTO in person.
I'll have many yrs of pulling logs thanks for taking the time to go over my M35.

Great looking equipment! Hurricane Idalia has put so many trees down here in Florida I'm considering one of these to help get trees out of the woods.

The supplied hitch did not work for me at all. I fabricated a receiver hitch to mount in the same spot on my winch. It works well.
