I had a Pulsar back in the mid 2000's, paid a grand for it, drove it as a daily for 12 months then swapped it for a S1 Escort RS Turbo with a pal. If I knew then what I know now i'd have a car collection worth millions. You can't dwell on it too much because you'd go insane. Every car guy that was active between the 90's and the mid 2000's kick themselves daily for selling cars for next to nothing back then only for those same cars to be fetching stupid money nowdays. You couldn't give them away back in the day. You could get pretty much any classic hot hatch for around 1-2k.
I know right? Wow, you paid a grand for a GTiR? I had an S2 RS Turbo back in the day before I got my first Starlet Turbo! That's why these days I don't sell the cars I buy, I really consider what car is most important to me to put my money into and then that car is a keeper. Next on my list in order of cost is an EK9 Type R, a phase 2 Clio V6, Escort Cosworth and CLK63 Black Series.
