  • G’day
Join me for a solid look into the detailed bits and pieces of a 2” Suspension Lift with a difference - an EAS Suspension Lift. It’s a little more complex than just a tune-up, so I’ll take the time to break it all down and get ALL the info out there that I can.
Don’t forget to Subscribe if you’re new here, and head over to the socials to catch more of the stuff in between these videos. @chillingwithkeithy on Facebook and @keithy_wager on Instagram.

That is probably the most perfect lift for that car. Well done mate and thanks for the videos.

Hi Keithy. Just came across your site when looking for how to replace a headliner. Our first experience with Rangies was my sons 86 Highline in the late 90's so we got to know Triumph Rover Spares yard well! He sold and that was it till now and I have just bought a 97 Autobiography with the Prince of Darkness electrics. Its a 1 owner but very weathered. Usual plastics problem but am going to subscribe to your channel as its nice to actually have an Aussie take on work on them. Love a Pom site where someone has written as part of his site detail "Landrover ,turning motorists into mechanics!" Somehow think that's going to be me if the Minister of Finance will put up with it. We had a 1982 Chev Suburban for 20 years and it was her shopping, school run car and she suffered a number of "inconvenient" stoppages so time will tell. Would have preferred a Thor but always liked the autobiography too, see how we go.

G’day Anthony, nice to meet you mate, even if I don’t have any headliner vids to show 😂 it’s a fun job, I’m sure you’d agree!
Welcome back to the fold! Having Lucas is a big welcoming gift, but they’re not as bad as some may say. It sounds like you’ve got a solid Rover past, that’ll be of benefit.
I’m surprised there’s not more Auzzies doing videos on them, there are a surprising amount of modified P38’s over here, although I guess it’s quite time consuming to record everything and then upload and follow up with questions and comments! There’s about a day of work for every 10mins of video.
You’re pretty right! If you haven’t spent much time on your own vehicle, it’s worth learning when driving a P38 (or any newer Landy for that matter). I’m sure you’ll find the Autobiography to be plenty reliable, and a solid learning experience!
Great chatting mate, and thanks for subscribing!

Very nice p38, an unusual colour too, looks great. don't think I've seen one that colour in the UK. What size tyres are you running? And do you know of a source for adjustable panhand rods? I kept the tyre size smaller on mine 255/70R16 for various reasons. I also ended up going coils due to multiple EAS issues. I would have liked to try the Arnott Gen 3's, but in the UK they cost more to buy than what my vehicle is worth! I also went for the Terrafirma +2" shocks, but the non adjustable ones. They ride firmer than standard shocks IMO.

Thanks mate! It’s a very late P38, I think this colour was only offered in 2001/2002. The tyres are 2885/75/16 on my P38, and I have made a 2” suspension lift to keep it on EAS.
It’s unfortunate to remove the EAS, but as you say it was giving you problems, and I say each to their own! If it suits your needs, then that’s great. I agree, I ran the +2” shocks many years ago (the non-adjustable ones) and found them firm too.

If I recalibrate, do i need to do the front spacer? I can do only 20mil angled Rear spacer and no spacer in front + eas calibration because gen 3 have more exténded lenght than gen 2
    Whats your thought about this?
    Thank you

Hi Keithy, Another good video. Have you got a video on the spare wheel carrier?

G’day mate, thanks for the kind words!
I’ve done a vid on the wheel carrier a few years ago. I will look into updating it later this year to include more details.

G’day Keithy, good video mate. Clear and to the point. I’ve been running the same setup for 12 months or so. I notice you’ve said the sensors are plus 20 & 40mm F & R respectively. Back in the AULRO write up you had them at 23 & 48. I find mine sits a bit high at that length and sensors go out of range if on the plus 2” bumpstops so I intend to shorten the sensor arms. So 20/40 is the go ? BTW Dash back in & job list getting shorter. Cheers Alan

G’day Alan, thanks for the kind words mate 👍🏻
Spot on about the sensor heights. I’ve found it easier to just say 40 + 20 to folks who ask me how much to move the sensors by, as it’s easy to remember and is close enough to right that there’s not much tuning needed (if at all). It sounds like that’s what you’re experiencing there too. I reckon once you’ve shortened them you will sort the bump stop issue. You may not have to go as far as 40-20, you might be about to do 44-20 (and worst case you can drop it more afterwards). All P38’s seem to operate different haha
That’s great news! You’ve worked hard to get where you are now 😀 Can’t wait to see the finished product 👌🏼
      Cheers

Wow LOVING all you videos of late Keithy 🤗
Hope your getting along okay 👍
After doing your exact lift on mine, I had a drama with one height sensor that I had to change the length of to work properly, and I can vouch for what you say about the bloody Dunlop factory bags, popped rear 3 times 👎
That was during the year or 2 the stopped making Arnotts Gen3, but had an email from her earlier this year that they started making them again 👍
In the meantime I put some copies in, that have worked so far, but will be ordering some, who do you suggest to get them from, as current prices seem through the roof?
I have also extended and made adjustable my rear panhard rod.
I noticed in the video that you said you leave yours at standard height, I keep mine Locked in Highway mode unless I need height out 4wdriving, then I go up to Standard mode, haven't used wading mode yet....lol.
Hope your doing better, and as always thinking of you from Tasmania Mate 🤗👍
    Cheers Rob and Shelly

Thanks for throwing in your experience mate! It’ll be extremely helpful for anyone going into the lift themselves, and what they might expect.
As for where to buy the Gen III’s, I usually go direct through them. I contacted Three Point Classic (pretty sure that’s their name) over here and they were asking close to $500 each bag, so I walked away from them - that’s a hideous rip off.
You’re right mate, mine runs around as if it were a standard P38, which was my goal from the beginning. The key is not to over-do it with the heights, so the driveshaft angles and wheel track doesn’t move too far away from factory.
Great to hear from you as always mate! Take care
      Keithy

Went with the Atlantic British 2" HD springs. Terrafirmas in the front and bilstein in the back. It was converted to springs before I bought it. I'm curious as to which roof rack you have. Specifically the roof connectors.

    • @Keithy_W
      @Keithy_W  ปีที่แล้ว

That sounds like an easy-maintenance combination. How do you like it?
The roof rack is home made. I’m pretty sure in the latest video I explain a bit more about it funny enough!

    • @Land_Raver
      @Land_Raver ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Keithy_W it's been really good aside from the rear springs. Like you talk about in your video, the angle of a flat plate on mine allows the spring to unseat. It's never fallen off and I can reseat it by hand.

I think you mean rear spacers? There is 20mm difference between the front and back of the spacer.

Hi, there's one thing I don't understand. If the bags are 2" longer than standard, why do you also add the 2" spacers?
What would happen if you ran the gen 3's without the spacer, but do all the other mods you mentioned.
    Cheers.

    • @Keithy_W
      @Keithy_W  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G’day mate,
The main focus by putting the spacer below the bags is to prevent over- extending them. Without the spacer they will blow up! The extra wheel travel is quite impressive from the suspension lift.

I have a problem with my P38 '96, 4.0 v8, in August I changed the air suspension with a normal one (with springs) 1 inch higher, but above this speed,110 km / h, there is a vibration. How can I fix the problem?
Ps: as you know the air suspension after 80 km / h the suspension goes down (as designed).
I guess you have to adjust somehow the angle of the drive shaft with the transfercase. What do you think I should do?
Pps: Those of you who have changed the air suspension with springs, what solutions have you found???
PPPS: above this speed, 110 km / h, there is a vibration.

G’day Daniel, thanks for messaging mate! Sounds like a little fault finding may be required. I can’t speak for coil spring issues, I’ve not had any dealings with them other than a brief drive on them.
It sounds like perhaps a wheel alignment issue? I can’t speak for all, but I have a completely standard driveline apart from the suspension lift, and I don’t get any vibrations at all from driveshafts or wheels, other than the hum from the aging tyres. I’d suggest to start from the basics and work your way up.
Wheel alignment and balance, then check the bushes in the front axle, wheel bearings, and last jobs I would do would be the expensive ones that include new shock absorbers, etc.
Absolutely, that’s and amazing thing to be able to lower the vehicle automatically and raise automatically at different speeds! It’s a good feature.
I hope you can find the issue and get it sorted!
