I made the mistake of listening to a lot of people several years ago when i went fishing on Lake Fork, where they said you have to throw a red Rat L TRap. guess what i bought about six of them for the trip and fished one for 2 days and about wore all the paint off it and never catch a fish. i cut it off and let it fall in the lake and put on a chrome with a blue back to fish the next morning and had 11 before noon when it was time to leave. one even had the hock pulled off the bait. just goes to show you need more colors.
This is my year round bait. I have lots of cranking lures. In our area we have a lot of flood control lakes so no grass lots of rock and timber. So with a lipless I like it over a square bill that limits cranking depth. As far as colors I keep with traditional color patterns based on fish patterns and water conditions. When you add in live scope, let it fall and start cranking speed to match where fish are sitting in depth; and do dead pause like a dying shad. They will crush it. Honestly, I wish someone could make a what could be a rattle-jerk. Body of a trap, moves like a trap, But when paused slow sinks or suspends like a jerk and erratic like a jerk.
Great video. Love throwing the red eye and 2 tap up to about 8 to 10 feet of depth. Super shallow I will throw the Cotton Cordell. Deep jigging the LV500 is my go to. The booyah one knocker comes in to play when it's really cold on Chickamauga and they want somerhing alittle different. Don't know what it is about the 2 tap in eoyal purple on Cherokee, Douglas and norris lake but smallmouth will kill it as it flutters down the stair steps on rock and bluff walls.
I wouldn't say dialed in. I said I "loved" didn't mention anything about my execution. That is still a work in progress. But will say my personal best came in the winter on a Rayburn Red 1/2 oz red eye yo-yoing it just off the bottom in about 6 feet of water from the bank.
Thank you for the information. Sometimes I have issues with them not running true, rolling on their side, etc. Do you have any suggestions on how I fix this? I have tried different knots but still have issues with it rolling. Thanks!
You pretty much nailed it. I have more redeyes than any other lipless... Why in the he!! did they discontinue the silent version?? In late spring after the fish have seen every lipless around, I can go behind people with the silent version and catch them. I still have a few but my stash is getting low... I've also seen the color deal. I was throwing the DB craw pattern and wearing them out. The wife was throwing the Carp color and catching 1 to my 5. Switched baits and know she is catching 5 to my 1. Went home an ordered 5 more DB craws and never have caught a fish on that color again lol.
I've still got a handful of the silent Redeyes BassPro used to sell. I like them even better than the original and the tungsten version, especially with all the pressure our lakes are getting lately.
I love traps but have not found a rod a really like since my old cara 7 foot medium, can not begin to tell how many bass I have caught originally on orange craw rat l traps then to all of the red eyes. Oh and I saw an interview with Fred Roumbanis about his career, it is one for the books . He is a good friend of Ish maybe a podcast with both. I am sure Ish is real familiar with his story.
Without a doubt I’ve caught the most numbers of fish on the redeye. Sometimes for me you will not get bit without that long pause. I remember one time I had to get the bait almost on dry land before getting a bite. That bait by far is my favorite for pre-spawn. Thanks for video as usual! @ Chickamauga
Get Dicky Newberry on your podcast. He's won that trap tournament multiple times. He's an expert on it. Chris and Dicky would be the two best to talk about lipless Crankbait fishing.
Hey Todd I always use the Red Eye and usually I have both the regular and the two- tap on at the same time but the other day I noticed that the bait was very small so I looked and I had bought a couple of those Berkley Warpig and they are very small and they actually worked pretty good I fish the Ross Barnett in Mississippi I am a big fan I’m the old Service Connected Disabled MARINE CORP Veteran you actually read one of My comments once on TH-cam I Hope You and Your Family has a GREAT CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Back in the 80's, could always catch em with a trap on Buggs. Now I fish the Redeye on smaller local lakes always. Gizzard color is my favorite. Love the Lews signature rods also. Thanks for the redeye video Todd!
I have a bunch of silent Red Eyes and they work well too. My favorite is a chrome silent that the weight has came loose in and it has a very subtle tic. I'll go to great lengths not to lose it.
Back when toledo still had really good grass it's kind of mind-boggling how many fish I've caught on a red eye but honestly I haven't even taken my box of them out the camp in so long I kind of forgot about them... I really hope we get hydrilla back like the old days eventually!!! Great video as always keepem coming brother...
👍👍👍👍👍
Another good one bro. Would love to see the one bait challenge on it.
When they get good in the grass I will

All your videos are top notch. I greatly appreciate the time and work in them. They have helped me a lot.
Dave
Glad to help
Most underrated Rapala rattlin rap
Chris is a great dude, and very good with those traps. Look forward to the podcast.
Skeeter Real Money !😁
ONE ROD CHALLENGE!!!
On it

Really, you got it dialed in

I agree 💯 color can definitely make a big difference

Thanks!
Love what you’re doing on TH-cam ! Keep catching em !
Great video Todd, you are very smart , especially when you mention the one knocker Excalibur
That’s a good one
Love the UTube show 👍
Glad to hear it!

Same.....love em...did they stop makin em?
@@ggw7948 It’s been a few years since I’ve since the silent ones in stores or online.
I keep a trap style bait tied on all year. Don't forget about the Super Spot!
That’s a good one
No love for the 3/4oz? I do really well with that bait on lakes with a lot of bluegill!
Interesting
Wonder why Excaliber retire from making the one knocker
Not sure
Dickie is hammer also with a trap in his hand on Rayburn. Look forward to the next show!
Yea all time great
Set up ???

Lews signature series worm and jig rod, I’ll do a follow up on the set up
No that’s a different rod

Not gonna lie lipless is just kinda eh for me. I’ve caught big fish but I’ve never had a beat down with it ever.
I’m a hybrid hunter man myself
Hey big dog what's your setup??!!
I’m gonna do a follow up
Need silent, floating, suspending and slow sinking RES! Let the folks at SK know! 😉🙏🏼🎣
Hard to beat Dickie Newberry with a trap.
Dickie Newberry. A guy with Elite abilities. Pretty good hammer on Ouachita also.
I agree don’t know if he’d share his knowledge, I’ll have to ask

I agree
I always have a Bill Lewis Chrome/Blue tied on, either 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4. Love it on Chickamauga.
I love lipless cranks. Redeye for grass, Rat-l-trap for stumps/wood, and Booyah One Knocker for rock and mud flats. September to April. Killer!!
and Cotton Cordell in 3 FOW or less
@@bartgrider6895 Yessir, that's a good one.

The black and gold red eyed shad is my go to lipless besides the warpig!
Oh yeah, I love lipless baits and use red eyes all the time
👍

Yes, PLEASE bring back the silent version

I know it’s tough knowing what that lake should be like
Talking about traps, you never followed up on that super tiny lipless from the video a month or so ago. Can we find out what it was yet?
It was a strike pro bait, trying to figure out how to get more
HAnds down one of the great all time baits. I keep them in my boat from 1/8oz to 1 oz year round.
I remember when that "Rayburn Red Zombie" first hit.crushed for like two trap seasons then couldn't get a bite on it.
Hooks on ur traps? I run a combo of triple grips on the head and the stx zo wire on the back of the bait. Thoughts
Both zo wire for me
