I’m with you on the less skirt thing. As a teen i lived on a lake near Minden Louisiana and had family working at Mr Twister. My brother in-law was one of the bait designers. He talked them into letting me test new baits to see if they produced fish. The first was what they called “Double Trouble “ basically a twin tail grub. I had no idea how to fish it, so i took a white spinner bait that i had caught so many fish on that there was little skirt left, i took the rest of the skirt off and wormed the grub on. Wow i caught so many fish on it, way more than on the spinner bait itself.
Your short breakdown of using braid and fluorocarbon line was great and I believe it's going to very useful for me when swim jig fishing, thank you and appreciate you brother!
I don’t have much budget, so I really appreciate the advice about preserving the skirts on my cheap jigs with superglue and about not needing to replace or rebuild worn-out jigs as often if the trailers are robust.
I fish chatterbaits a lot but can’t say I used swim jigs very much, but that’s all fixing to change and I’m fixing to use a very similar setup!! Can’t wait.
Just coming around to this video, two years too late. But it’s the Year of the SwimJig for me in 2024. Central Florida Bass beware!!! Todd, that is one broke-ass looking swim-jig!!! Have some pride in your work, man. Just kidding, I know there’s a method to your madness. Thanks for the detailed information, it was just what I was looking for. God Bless.
Thanks Todd and congrats, happy for ya. My favorite way to catch bass. I never have much luck with swimbait trailers, you may have put me on to something with the deeper application. Next time you are keeping your jig shallow try a Stanley ribbet or the like. That flat body and kick is great and they are tough. Good luck, stay safe.
These were some great tips, don't throw a swimbait enough, but I'm starting to,went to a buddy's pond with 1 last year just to get some confidence in it and they were chewing it,fun way to fish, thanks for the tips👊
Swim jig, spinnerbait, and swimbaits are my top 3 baits. I don't like slowing down so I make 1 of these 3 work 90% of the time. I catch most of my 4+ lb fish on the swim jig
Speaking of swim jigs on my last fishing trip i saw a guy catch a 3 pound bass on spinning gear an was fishing a full size swim jig which was surprising to me.
Hey Todd! Liked your swim jig one rod challenge. When are you doing another challenge? Maybe frog, popping perch, sexy dog or redeye shad. Best of luck in tourneys this year!
Comment #2. Todd, is there much difference between using a very stiff rod (say a flipping stick) and 25-30lb fluoro vs using a softer rod (like a MH/Regular Fast 7’3” Poison Adrena) and 30lb braid? I’m using Sunline Asegai with a Shimano Metanium baitcaster. I live in Central Florida, so I deal with lots of vegetation and dark, tannic water with larger bass. I rarely fish the Alabama Shake or a swimjig on the surface of the water. I fish my swim jigs with a swimbait trailer (Gambler EZ Vibez) fished erratically about 3-5 feet below the surface. Tight Lines, I just subscribed based off of this video’s advice.
Just came across this video, interesting I've used probably 10 superglues and that is hands down the best for everything from gluing on eyes to trailers.
Always always another great video. Just one question you only said you use a stout rod. Would just like to have the specifics. Length, power, and action. Again awesome videos. Brett
Hey Todd. Thanks for the details. What was the reason you chose swim jig vs. a bladed jig? I always struggle with when to throw which one. Appreciate if you could elaborate... Once again, Thanks for all the great content- enjoy the heck out it!
Is Todd from Texas? And will he be at the Classic Expo? I was searching for a “swim jig”. Good video Todd. The super glue was the best tip. Most pros do not do that for obvious reasons. Thanks for all your videos and hard work.
It’s really just based on where they are in the water column. Bass prefer to feed up but that because of the way they are built. It’s why where eyes are on top of their head.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 ok cool deal. The more I learn about this crappie and bass have a lot of similarities. Thanks again dude, rock on man. Like the channel
Good video man. Good info. What line did you use for the 1/4 OZ? Also I've see some guys rig the boot tail upside-down to get a different action or cut the boot tail off. Keep up the good content man!!
I’ve tried it I didn’t like it. The 1/4 oz would still be with the same line braid for the Tiguan stuff on top, 25 shooter for anything under the water
In a previous video, "the only jig you will ever need" you recommend the strike king structure jig but they don't make white. what white jig are u using?
There is 1 swim jig on the market without a screw lock that you will never need glue, the untamed tackle swimjig has the best keeper and head that I've ever fished. I've fished a swimjig for more than 20 years and tried them all. I caught 17 Coosa river spotted bass on 1 3.8 keitech on the back of it, you know how soft they are. I know your a strike king guy but please try 1
Can you show the rod like you did in that other video on your fiveXD video where it said five XD r and then the medium power and then the medium fast action but for the swim jig and other rods in the future please?
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I’ve thrown it in both but usually go with a spinnerbait when it’s on the dirty side. It sounds like I always fish the swim jig too low and slow.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 just got my pb last night with a black and blue jackhammer chatterbait I wish I could send you some pics. I am pretty new to this and this sucker was huge! SO I might be overexcited

You mentioned the bait; jig and trailer... You mentioned a 300 reel with 25lb fluoro... But what rod? Your rod looks extremely parabolic! What are u running? MH MF? H M? Just curious
Yea its a custom rod sort of, I got Lews to agree and make a limited time only through tackle warehouse. I throw so many baits on this one rod and it’s awesome. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know when it becomes available
I don't know what you are trying to prove by putting a toxic lure in your mouth; this is a very poor example for fisherperson's. I believe you have a pair of cutting utensils, use them, and be a good example of how to use this bait.
Best instruction on here by far. No sales pitch, just solid usable info even for old-timer like me! Thanks Todd!

Wow, you said "fixing" twice in the same sentence, you must really be Southern! Ha! Just playing, have a great day. Tight lines!
Love your videos. I'm going to put it out there. Fishing line size does not matter to the fish unless it affects action

Awesome swim jig breakdown Todd. I need to fish it more and with more confidence.

Haven’t had to much luck on swim jigs but these all around tips make since!!!
Keep trying once you figure it out it will get easy
Great job! I think the swim jigs are getting bites everywhere because of all the pressure on these lakes lately.
Good stuff Todd!! Thanks for the breakdown!!

I’m about to fish some water that looks just like that this weekend. You bet I’m tying a swim jig on now
Good stuff brother....never been a big jig fisherman, looks like I need to give it more time.
Thanks for the pointers. I need to work on my swim jig game!
I have one tied on everywhere I go
Dude this was very helpful and informative. Thanks for the breakdown.

Thanks big dawg for the info. I’m getting killed by other anglers throwing the swing jig and I need to figure this technique out to add to my game….

Which jig is your favorite or most used? The KVD or Hack attack heavy cover? Thanks for being team SK. Best lures around!
I throw the hack attack heavy cover almost exclusively
Try a Zoom Z craw jr for a trailer it works...
The ragebug and rage craw seemed to work pretty good in my other videos
Enjoyed the breakdown Todd. Question, what are the determining factors when they feed up vs down? Is it the season? Or weather conditions? Thanks!

Yes but at the time this was an old rod you couldn’t get anymore but don’t worry I’m working on that.
Great vid!
Good video! Fishing Texoma this week, is that your setup for Texoma?
Yes but more of the setup with the swimming caffeine shad
Very enjoyable!!!!
Thanks
Legit info sir....super glue is a staple in my boat!! I appreciate the no BS content....gotta sub from me...
👍
Never did say what rod you used for both
I was throwing a falcon 7’3 cara xh but I’m in the process of switching to Lews
Never said what gear ratio reel either. Great strike king ad though
Great info!!
Thanks for watching!
I can’t catch my butt with both hands on a swim jig. Guess I’ll apply this advice and keep trying. Thanks.
You throwing it in clear or dirty water?
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I’ve thrown it in both but usually go with a spinnerbait when it’s on the dirty side. It sounds like I always fish the swim jig too low and slow.
