    My favorite way to fish a drop shot. Shallow and around cover. Works GREAT!

    I'm a big fan of the Owner Cover shot for T-rigged applications. Best hook I've ever used on a drop shot.

    Thanks for the video and, thanks for the tip about skin hooking the bait on the flat side. What you said made a lot of sense!

    Thanks Todd for explaining your method for drop shotting!!! Have never had any trust in this fishing method before now so I will certainly give it an
    all out attempt. Like you, I a fish Rayburn and Toledo Bend almost exclusively and I think I have some really good possibilities as far as locations to try it!!!
    Thanks for your tips and information videos, they are really good and enjoyable!!! Thanks again!!!

      Catching fish doing this is a guarantee out there year round. Tournament fishing is a different story it’s hard to win that way although it’s possible.

    I love how you explained the knots. I use a Palomar knot on everything but braid and a uni- knot on braid. Double Uni for leader. I have never broken a knot that was tied right. Just use a knot you have confidence in

    Great drop shot tips Todd! Now I have another use for my medium bait casters .

    Snapped off two last time out....lol....on 10lb line ... Playing with drop shot myself... sometimes I get excited about the bite and have a tendency to set to hard....lol...got to learn to lean into them.....Good video Todd

      use a ML rod and you’ll stop breaking so many off even if you have a tendency to swing harder. it’ll absorb a bunch of shock

    Was throwing a very similar setup last week in standing timber and deep brush piles. About only difference was I had to tie the sinker on to keep from losing it. Works very well.

    Finally, a drop shot video!!! After watching video of me setting the hook with a drop shot I have been trying to reel in and smaller hook sets. Kept breaking the line and I think it’s because smaller line and too much force in hook sets.

    always look forward to your tips vids Todd. I live near Lanier, so nose hooking DS is primary. However, in ponds and areas with more cover, I prefer your ewg hook method. Tight lines!!

      You bet and your right the nose hook method around Lanier would be right. I did live that lake when I got to fish it once. Giant spots

    Back in the 90's we used to "yankee rig" on toledo. Basically you just tie your hook above your carolina rig weight. It was in a Bassmaster magazine way back when.

    Todd,
    Great informative video. Just a couple of quick question. Do you use the 4 inch Dreamshot or the 5 inch. The reason I ask is would you use the same hook on both or a larger size on the larger bait. Thanks

    You guys have to try Bambuie Bear Heavy cover grass shots. Best tungsten drop shop weight to through cover by far.

    you aint gonna catch me using no damn fairy wand....It's a sad day when T Castledine uses a pixie stick. Nah Im just kidding, this is a great vid, and a lil dif take on a traditional dropshot vid. I really enjoy these vids, and I never understood the people who just will not use a spinning rod or finesse technique. You gotta use what the fish want and if that means super finesse, that's what it is. keep these vids coming Todd......good stuff!!!

    Man I have started using the drop shot on my baitcaster for last few years and I love it,I also use it Texas rigged,but hiw do you get rid of the line twist,is it the line or the rig,I use P line

    • @scandalousangler2909
      @scandalousangler2909 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use spiderwire braid. I was using p line and had nothing but issues switched to spiderwire got rid of line twist and the spiderwire doesn't have line memory so it prevents the twist

      Yes I do and if you follow Instagram or Facebook you can message me there or respond back. However I rarely go back and look at comments after a couple of days so the other way is better for sure

    I used to throw a drop shot 20 years ago when I was a teenager on baitcasters but do you really think in east Texas it’s better than say a t rig or even a shaky head? Im like you but I hate a spinning reel. I’ll eventually embrace it but not anytime soon.

  • @nickmiller1268
    @nickmiller1268 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I Have never tried a drop shot rig so this question may sound a bit dumb but what about around rock or rock piles in deeper water? Does the sinker being at the bottom of the line get hung up a lot?

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it’s actually better because it’s a smaller weight and you drag it less and hop it just a bit more

    I can't seem to get any bait to be horizontal in the water. The weight if the bait always pulls the hook down and are vertical. Do I need to have floating baits?

  • @bradleyfashik6825

    What gear ratio do you prefer when you are using a baitcaster on this technique

    • @toddcastledinefishing5924
      @toddcastledinefishing5924  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really worried about that since your not moving the bait by feeling so a normal 7:1 is fine

    I drop shot heavy cover on 30lb braid mainline with 15lb leader line on weedless hook and 1/2oz sinker lol 😆

  • @1965JB

    Just yesterday I figured out that I need to fish a heavy drop shot rig because the fish I’m trying to get to are in 8-10 feet of water in weeds and a current that changes strength and direction every couple of minutes; is TH-cam reading my mind?

  • @johnzeetee6747

    As many bass as I’ve caught on a dropshot, I’ve never caught one over 3#. What do I need to change? Frustrating

  • @1965JB

    Ohhh…the Knot savior!!!
    Thank you for saving us from another “this is the knot to use” video in conjunction with a technique.
    I have 4 I have learned and like to use. The rest of my brain space is occupied by a never ending honey-do list, my favorite beers, bourbons, fishing spots, and at my age remembering peoples names!!!
    The first one and last one 🤦‍♂️

  • @jackstein5486
    @jackstein5486 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Todd, gotta disagree. My experience is the palomar knot has a tendency to slip and get in the gap of the eye and breaks. The snell knot with 7 wraps turns up and never slips. Try it, you will never use the palomar for drop shotting again.
