    This is a fishing tutorial video that shows how to crimp both cable and monofilament. Crimping is a required knowledge in order to learn how to create big game fishing rigs and leaders. Always use copper crimping sleeves for cable and aluminum crimping sleeves for monofilament. Whether your deep sea fishing for marlin offshore on a boat or shark fishing from the beach, you will need to know how to properly crimp, so that you can create strong rigs that are able to withstand the power of these fish.
    TOOLS:
    Wire Cutters
    Hand Swager AKA Crimper tool
    MATERIALS:
    Crane Swivel
    2.3mm Stainless Steel Thimbles
    2.3mm Oval Aluminum Crimps
    1.9mm Double Barrel Copper Crimps
    480lb 49-strand cable
    500lb monofilament

    Great video. I learn to make my leaders from this video. Just one tip for beginners: Don't go cheap with the crimper tool, any crimper tool under $100 most likely you will lose the big fish like I do many times. Better crimper = better results.

    Never thought I needed to use thimbles until last night. I hooked up on 3 sharks and third pulled the swivel through the 400lb mono. I'm a believer now! Haha

    Have you switched over from using this cable to using heavy single strand? I've found that you can get this 49 strand cable at hardware stores much much cheaper than cable in the fishing store. It's also stainless steel, and I like how the 49 Strand doesn't kink so you get more uses out of it. Currently I use 200lb carbon coated wire for sharks, but I'm thinking of going over to the 49 strand with crimps.

    • @BlacktipH
      @BlacktipH  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jbay2608 I prefer wire over cable. I have had sharks bite through cable. They only need to bite through one strand at a time and eventually the cable fails.

    Thank you for breaking down crimping in your video. I fish sturgeon in California and interested in learning how to attach the hook to the leader. Current, I'm using 90 lbs 7 strand wire and 80 lbs fluorocarbon. My knots for the wire are failing would adding a crimp solve this for me? If so, how and where should I add the crimp. Thanks again for the video.

    Do you have to use certain crimpers depending on weather it's aluminum or copper crimp. I have p line heavy duty crimpers , but they have a needle like tip. Which on aluminum makes a sharp edge on a 50 lb crimp. What do you recommend?

    I respectfully argue that stainless steel and aluminum DO NOT react (corrode) one another. We use stainless steel bolts, washers, etc. whenever we are attaching hardware to our aluminum boats because of the fact that they do not react to one another.

      @trumpafarian7129 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Outdoors FHS For thin braid you want to tie it. For heavy braid you want hollowcore. Learn how to splice loops. You splice a segment of braid onto your leader via the Chinese finger trap method. Then you splice a loop in the other end of the braid. Splice a loop on your mainline. Connect the loops with a loop to loop connection, a cats paw. That is the strongest connection for braid when big game fishing.
