    Nothing wrong with your rig and I used to make mine a lot like yours, but I recently went out night fishing in the surf with a fellow who has caught over 150 sharks this year. (He has lots of pics of 5 to 10 ft. lemons, blacktips, bulls, tigers, hammers, etc. so he's legit.) His leaders were straight 6 to 8 ft. of 800 lb mono crimped to a 20/0 non-offset circle hook and a 300# swivel. He said he hasn't lost one shark to a bitten-through leader ever on this rig. I was impressed with the simplicity. I used one of his leaders on my surf rod/reel and brought in and then released a feisty 6 ft lemon shark later that evening. With the drag fully engaged (40 lb plus) on a Slammer III 9500 that lemon took over 300 yards of 80 lb line from me before I was able to stop it and then inched it in, and there was no serious abrasion on this leader.

    I also want to add that the Flemish loops you add to your rigs is a good idea.

    I'll be staying on Navarre beach this coming week! I am an avid Texas coast sharker and looking forward to trying my luck on your home turf. Question.... where do you buy your components? Crimps, swivels and hand swager to be specific! I'll keep an eye out for you on the sand this week!

    Great vid thanks for sharing how you make shark leaders! In your vid at the end shows you all camped out on a beach that is great looking beach. What beach is that? I will probably never make it that far east but maybe some day. Tight lines and keep the vids coming!

    Good looking rig. Why do you like copper crimps over the wire instead of aluminum? Also try some shrink wrap vacuum tubing to cover the crimps. Shit looks dead sexy when your done.

    • @YakinwithJack
      @YakinwithJack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      jake brown aluminum and cable tends to slip under heavy pressure. Yes heat shrink will clean it up nice

    Could you make a video on a rig for casting for sharks on a big spinning setup? I'd love to learn about spinning rods, reels and shark leader rigs. Also what crimper do you use?

      I have two crimps they are bass pro brand , also I have video up on my channel already for casting rigs for sharks

    Thanks for sharing! I’ve been fishing predominantly Midwest freshwater most of my life. Hoping to put my son on a nice shark as we celebrate him graduating high school and going on to his next chapter. This gives me a good idea on how to get him rigged up for the beast in our future! Thank you! Also, are you now or have you ever been a Best Buy employee? That razor nice looks familiar, ha!

    Nice video, I kinda do the same when making my casting leaders. I don't have the money for a conventional set up yet. But I do have about 200 for a nice surf rod was leaning towards the carnage II. Any suggestions? Casting big baits and doing short drops on the yak on slammer 3's. So like 6+ bait and heavier weights if the surf is rough. Enjoy the vids. Can't wait to get into the conventional game next year after tax season lol.

    • @YakinwithJack
      @YakinwithJack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just get a a heavy enough rod to handle the line you are using and weight. Is my best suggestion. Thanks for watching buddy

    what strand cable is that? cause an 49strand the day will come when you get chewed of, on heavy enough 1x7 the only danger is to get a knot in it.

    Great video! Question for you: what size of shark are you targeting for this rig versus the rig in your surf casting shark rig? Just getting into shark fishing off the texas coast.

    • @YakinwithJack
      @YakinwithJack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      7 ft and bigger. The biggest we landed in this rig is a 13ft hammer

    You say always use copper crimps for steel wire but you don't give any explanation why? In my experience there's no difference between the hold of aluminum or copper there's only a slight difference in corrosion

    • @YakinwithJack
      @YakinwithJack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corrosion will make the leader fail makes the crimp weaker. When fight a big shark form land that would prolly be the first thing to fail under high tension

    Oh yeah I cried when I lost the salmon of a life time from the hook straightening out after it ran my whole spool of line around a old concrete bridge pillar was worried bout it breaking off and it straighted the hook right at shore

  • @wadeknupp5808
    @wadeknupp5808 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Constructive criticism:
    1) show the crimp picture for more than 2 seconds literally! Pausing it puts text over the part you want to see, so that doesn't work either.
    2) If you drop the camera more than twice, consider doing another take.
    3) too fast through the stuff I want to study and too slow through the fluff.
