A Muddy Off-Road Adventure To The Mexico Border

  • Bocca Chica Beach is back open! Its time to hit the beach and explore some local trails.
In this video, my buddy (Harrison) brings along his Jeep Wrangler TJ and we go explore the very southern tip of Texas.. Along the way to the Rio Grande, we hit the sandy beach, the muddy flats, and enjoy the views and the offroad experience!
Before i left the house, i installed a few parts. I will have to talk about these in another video due to this one already being pretty long. The Viper Throttle body upgrade for the 3.8 seems to be a pretty decent upgrade/mod so far. As for the catch can, time will tell!!
Cheap Universal Catch Can: amzn.to/3hO3uRY You will need some hose adapters to fit the different sizes.
JK 3.8 Throttle Body Upgrade: amzn.to/2REEoKO This is the "Viper" Throttle body, it is larger and still bolts on!! Some people say that this will throw codes if you live at high elevation. You will also need a silicon intake adapter if you want to keep your factory airbox.
3" to 2.5" Adapter will be needed if you keep the factory style air intake piping. amzn.to/2ZVKzi7 This will fit the larger 3" Throttle body, the only downside is the adapter 2.5" side has to go on the inside of the factory airbox tube, so it reduces diameter a little bit there. However its the easiest and cheapest option without switching over to a cold air intake setup that has a larger tube.
We had alot of fun taking our Jeep Wranglers on this mini adventure. Sometimes a simple offroad trip can be exactly what you need. We checked out SpaceX, and its always cool to see the progress being made on the rockets down there. I also found out that this Texas mud/sand/silt can be no joke... yes i got stuck... Well, we both did! And finally we drove down the beach headed south, ending at the border of the United states and Mexico. I was tempted to hop in the water and swim halfway across the Rio Grande so i could technically say i was on the border..
Thanks for watching guys, i hope you enjoyed the video.
I know you guys really want to see some rock crawling action, and that WILL Happen soon!!

you need traction boards if your going to play in on the beaches and sand also your trunk looked awfully empty you could get a no skip socket set sae and metric for around 100$. a cheap set of sae and metric wrenches, a hammer or two a roll a tie wire and a couple short chains. you will be glad you have it when you breakdown. aside from having someone run to town and get parts while you rip it apart on the trail (tip most napas will deliver to the last bit of pavement) you can do some jurryrigging like say you broke a tie rod from hitting a rock you can take the handle from the hilift jack and sleeve the tie rod use the adjuster clamp to push the handle to the wheel and take advantage of the cotter pin hole in the tube use tie wire to pull the end tight to the wheel. wont take you 70mph down the highway but you will be able to drive out the trails

I got stuck in sand in California, you can see @1waytolookatit, the problem was that the winch was facing away form the truck I winched to, so I ran the line through a D shackle in my rear receiver, it worked. The truck that I winched from did not have a winch.

Amigo, Texas is the size of a small country and has 10 distinct ecoregions. I've lived in north Texas my entire 47 years and have never seen mud like you experienced down there. I'm used to foundation-destroying black clay that opens up cracks you can fall into in a drought.

      Quicker and easier to remove.
The Shackle was on the bumper because of the sharp edge, dont want to stick a soft shackle through it and have it chafe. The soft shackle is just really quick to unhook when your messing around in the mud.

It’s from Rock fab Offroad. Owners name is Kevin. Great friend of mine, dating back to high school. We used to wheel all the time together. He makes these by hand, and does a great job. They are a little more expensive than ones on amazon, but these things just work amazing and I’ve never had any issues with one at all.
If you don’t mind spending the few extra bucks on a made in USA and supporting a small family business, then check RFO out! His website is out of stock of a few things since they just had a second baby, but looks like the rope is in stock!

I really want to make sure I run it for 1k miles or so before saying it’s a good upgrade. Some people say they get CEL codes for air related issues (lean), so we will see. I haven’t had any issues so far, but maybe the Superchips tuner is helping? Also, most people with that issue say they live in higher elevation areas.
