    Dr. Taylor, I was just diagnosed with osteoporosis AP Spine -3.9, neck-3.2, l hip -2.6. I have lost height and I am already short! I am 72 and had early menopause. They want me to take weekly fosamax. I am checking my options. I am happy that I found your channel. I have Hashimotos and take low dose levothyroxine and very high cholesterol but presently I am not taking statins.

    Thank you! I am 59. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2016. I was put on fosamax by my family Dr. Then discovered HRT options and found a Dr. I just started HRT (April 2020) I feel angry that I knew so little about this. I am on a compound of estrogen/ testosterone and a pharmaceutical progesterone...I am amazed at the changes in me. I went back to my gynecologist for a wellness exam and she is really not happy with this compound. ( not FDA approved)I am in the process of researching it all and learning so much from you! Thanks, again!!

    I’m 51 and fairly active so I was surprised to see low bone density (-2 on a t scale). I participated in a research study in a School of Medicine and was able to get a dexa at no cost. I’ll be sharing the report with my doctor next week.

      Please consider schedule consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I guarantee that if your doctor follows the osteoporosis guidelines, he or she will tell you that you do not meet the eligibility criteria for treatment and that you should just take calcium, Vitamin D, & do weight-bearing exercise.
      But, even if you do all that, you will continue to lose bone ... and probably fracture your spine or hip ... before they do anything to help you. But by then it will be too late.
      That's the problem with the guidelines. They are not designed with your best interests in mind. I'll make sure you need fracture.

    I am 40 now and was first diagnosed peri-menopausal around 39, my first doctor was unsure about my treatment options. She tried a couple of things, giving me HRT and then letting me stop taking it to see if my periods come back to normal. They didn't!. Then I went to another doctor after a long research and watching your videos. She made me start taking progesterone but my periods didn't continue so my doctor suggested that I also take estrogen and a DEXA test. On my DEXA test, my T score is between-1.4 & -1.1 ( different bones) showing Osteopenia.
    Anyhow, now I am on HRT ( bio-identical estrogen gel and 200 mg progesterone pills) . My doctor said, I will get a DEXA scan after a year on HRT. (By the way, I never ever want to stop taking HRT. It brought me back to me!) Anyhow, I am curious if this HRT only prevents more "bone loss", or is it possible to restore some back due to my age? I watched all your videos so far one by one in order. So sorry if I missed the answer for this but I am curious. Thank you for all you do for us! Educating us. It is priceless! Seriously! Thank you.

    I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I'm 57 (post-menopause) and have a history of PCOS and I've now learned (on my own) that the low estrogen from having that is likely the cause. That being said, my endocrinologist has recommended the 1x per week pill. I'm confused as she is only recommending Vitamin D, Calcium increase through foods or supplements, and exercise. When I mentioned estrogen or progesterone, she said given I'm in menopause it is not recommended - breast cancer, etc. I'm also concerned about the meds. but understand the risk of having a fracture is worse - although what can happen from the meds. is scary too. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist, functional medicine doctor, and a menopause specialist and I'm hoping I can get a solid plan from 1 of them (for supplements, diet, and exercise - in addition to the meds. or instead of). I'm on a see-saw of what to do. Now that I've discovered your videos, I'm learning so much and considering your consult as I understand everyone is different. Working through the videos so when I do seek consult, I am well informed.

    Thank you for this simple chart! I understand pictures easier than numbers. I have an apt with a menopause specialist next week. I'm interested in hearing what she has to say. I'm 60, my obgyn let me go off of HRT 2 years ago and I was diagnosed with osteopenia before that! 😡 My MD also knew and was happy about me going off because my BP was high from it. I'm pretty sure she is under the impression that if I eat right and work out that my bones will be okay. I have had a bone scan in the past, and I'm not due for one yet but I will pay for another one here soon no matter what. Thanks to you I am armed with information, and I'll also be bringing your book with me! Thank you!

    When I go see the gyno to renew my happy gel, aka estrogen gel, I am going to ask about getting a bone density test. I faithfully use my estrogen replacement since surgical menopause set in while I was in the OR and the surgeon removed my girl parts. Good thing too cuz when pathology looked they found what everyone missed polyp with cancer.....
    On the Facebook page I try to tell the other woman who had hysterectomies to research and drop your name. Some of the women are in their early 40s or older who refuse or are scared to take HRT.

    Love, love this menopause education! I did not know I knew so little but I have changed that and am getting the education I need.
    When Lane #2 crashed into the wall, you made a great sound for it! I have tried to make sounds like that when playing with my sons (and now grandsons). They just look at me like my car is sick. Lol

    Dr. Taylor, a question in your comments made me think about this , when we take both estrogen and progesterone because we still have a uterus and you have told us the progesterone is the baby hormone but it also negates some of the beneficial effects of estrogen in other parts of the body, didn’t you tell us in another video to use a Mirena IUD (progesterone) so it stays in the uterus instead of traveling thru the whole body ? I’m asking because I want all of the benefits of estrogen without negating any.

    Hi, Dr. Taylor. My T Scores are Spine = positive 1.2 and for my hips negative 1.0. I’m on estrogen .075 patch and progesterone . Have only been menopausal for about two years when I went on HRT. I’ve found good exercises for my hips and will continue my other exercise routine. I’m trying to find out if I can or should be taking other meds for my osteopenia too. I’m 57 now. Taking D3 and Calcium. Thanks.

    Great video so true that an option for one thing probably isn't enough to treat another. For many years I have been eating to support thyroid and prevent diabetes as it happens to older women in my family and yes I need to do different things for both. Now my nutrition plan has been adjusted even more to manage perimenopause and it's different yet keeping up with the thyroid & blood sugar management even more important now. I enjoy my food and feed.my dog really well on a very low income. It can be done. Estrogen of some sort will certainly be added in here somewhere at some point. Thank you

    The fear women have of weight gain is irrational! Being too skinny puts you at risk for fractures! I forced my doctor to prescribe a DEXA after my fracture, Nobody wanted to give it to me. I had a fracture at age 52 or 53. But they still did not want to give it to me but because I pushed and told them I had a fracture and if I didn't get the test there could be legal consequences I got it. But I should not have had to go through that! When I was looking for help I saw all of these videos of woman giddy about Progesterone. I also had to advocate for myself and bed doctors to help me with my parathyroid tumor. My hubby had to fight for me. If I was a man this would not be the case! Thank you for this education!

    It would be so great if the numbers of video was Before the title. TH-cam does not play in order and it is like an Easter egg hunt to find the next numbered lesson. If it’s a long title the numbers don’t show up without having to click through the videos.

    Dear Dr Barbie,
    I am so grateful for your videos as I have learned so much! What do you think about the study linking gut microbiome and bone resorption? I believe it is specifically Lactobacillus reuteri. I don't think it has been translated into a defined treatment yet but there are websites touting it's cures!

    I'm 54, have been taking progest/estradiol for 3 yrs now - wasn't in full meno when I started. I have exercised my entire life, eat super healthy and don't smoke - and I was shocked to find myself with ostopenia - got a dexa. I don't have the other risk factors either -that was mentioned here - at least, as far as I know genetically (parents passed). I am honestly not sure what to do now as I am already on HRT and apparently it either didn't help or help enough. *I'd love some feedback on how to prevent ostopenia from getting worse, or info on how likely it is to progess if you are taking all the right steps - These videos are really helpful but when you fall into 1 lane but you are already doing the suggested preventative etc...Also, seems from what I understand, this would be pretty common for most women, even the ones that were healthy before.

    I have a uterus and my ovaries still so I’ve been taking both estrogen and progesterone for about 10yrs. I am 64 and post menopausal. I’ve been told that if you have a uterus,progesterone is necessary to prevent uterine cancer. So my question is, Is the progesterone negating the benefits of the estrogen in terms of bone loss??

      No, the progesterone simply protects your uterus from developing too thick a lining which could become cancerous now that you're no longer shedding that lining in the form of a period. The oestrogen isn't negated by this.

      No. The progesterone is not negating the benefits of estrogen on your bone. It does negate some (but not all) of the beneficial effects on some other parts of your body, though.

      I heard Dr. Taylor in another video talking about using a mirena so the progesterone only travels to the uterus instead if the whole body.

    I have been searching your channel on the top of postmenopausal bleeding. I have started bleeding after 5 years on HRT, and 15 years after going into menopause. My gyn saw me in the office right away and did a biopsy. I am scheduled for an ultrasound in one week. I was told to immediately stop the HRT. Do you have further information about this issue as I am very worried?

    Great video, as usual! On a funny note, you use a hairstylist as an example of telling their clients to be afraid of hormones. I’m a hairstylist and am the exact Opposite! I’m telling my women to watch all of your videos, buy your book, schedule a consult, etc. They look at me like, “Oh, bless her heart; she’s just an uneducated, simpleton.” Women are soooo afraid, even when the facts are right in front of them!

      Yes,keep looking. live in a rural area in West Virginia and just happen to have a doctor that specializes in this..Though it was quite expensive and more testing than I wanted (not the hormone it’s self) Which is why I went back to my gynecologist for my annual wellness I think she’s going to be willing to give me hormones just FDA approved she said there’s a risk and she does prescribe to some people that insist.. I Contacted her to let her know I’m going to follow up

I'm horrified that my gyno and regular doctor let me go off of my HRT knowing I have osteopenia! I have an apt with a menopause specialist next week. I'm armed with knowledge from watching Dr Taylor, plus I purchased her book, which is a bit pricey but not when you think of the valuable content. Good luck on your mission. Dont give up until your comfortable, or get the apt with Dr. Taylor.

    I’m a little confused. I thought testosterone was papa bears hormone. However, according to the chart, we should use testosterone as prevention. 🤔

      Testosterone IS Papa Bear's hormone.
      Testosterone does for men what estrogen does for women. Your bones have estrogen receptors. If you lose your estrogen you lose bone.
      Men's bone has testosterone receptors If a man loses his testosterone, he loses bone.

      @@whoatethechocolate There are no testosterone products made for women. The ones made for men are 10 times as strong as what women want or need (if hey need testosterone at all).

      Let's see:
      Protein is protein; Hormones are hormones.
      Oh my! They are two completely different things!
      Trying to reverse osteoporosis with protein would be like trying to correct your academic grades by playing sports.
