80% of all breast cancers are estrogen receptor positive, meaning that their growth is promoted by increased levels of plasma estrogen (whatever the source of the estrogen). Hundreds of studies over decades have proven this to be a fact. There is a good reason why early stage breast cancers are treated with surgery and estrogen-suppressing medications. The advice to be cautious about HRT and also bio-identical estrogens (it is all estradiol) is valid. Hormone replacement works well for many women, and could be advised for women with osteoporosis, but it is a fact that the longer you use it, the greater your risk of breast cancer and stroke.

This has been debunked. The study that led many to believe this was when the WHO report came out but the main test group was women over 65. Could you please cite your source? I’d love to know where you got this info.

@@NewDay2.0.2.4 Yes you're right. Much of the early research overestimated the risks of HRT and it is a shame that many women were put off using HRT when it could have really helped them. But it is is a fact that 80% of breast cancers are estrogen-receptor positive and that following surgery and they are treated with Tamoxifen which is an estrogen-suppressing medication to reduce the chance of the cancer coming back. Estrogen fuels the growth of these tumours - fact. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't take it as it has many benefits, but I don't agree with the doctor when she says it has no risks.
