I love that you held the repaired earbud up to your ear, found it working and then immediately held it up to your other ear to make sure it would still work on that side of your head. +10 Thoroughness.
I'm honestly kind of shocked how repairable those earbuds are. Compared to the Apple version that you can only open destructively, these seem positively easy to open and work on. Just a shame about the lack of schematics and other documentation :)
@@stephenmanis5258 Yeah, just two clips holding the enclosure together? Too easy. Stack of PCBs connected with flatflex and you can actually manipulate individual SMD parts and follow traces? But Apple said it couldn't be done.
Lol, this is exactly what I am thinking watching some of his videos. And this is exactly what companies want. Also the reason why they don't provide sheets and such because one could repair it easier.
I admire your willingness to put the thing all the way back together to test it. Years of needing to take stuff back apart 30 more times, means I usually put it back together only as much I need to to test.
Dude - I literally punched the air in victory after you successfully got the connector fixed. This was so good. Love it! I can't believe how small those pieces are.
Awesome video! I have a pair that doesn't work, and this has made me want to see if it's an easy fix. You were wondering what to do with them. If you use earbuds, samsung buds have been the best I've ever used.
Fantastic work as always! I once had to resolder a microscopic coil onto an iphone motherbord, I only had a regular soldering iron tip and no micoscope. Im not sure id ever try it again ;)
Fair play to you for fixing these i would of just binned them being so small makes them a fair bit harder to repair but for the most part they did come apart fairly well for repairs and battery changes .
Brand new to the channel and I absolutely can not get enough. Man, the entertainment value of your videos is amazing. Add the fact that you're actually repairing stuff? Awesome! Thank you for the great channel!
I wish you would post more repairs. Nothing like bingeing Stez on my weekends. Gonna have to watch them all again. I always seem to cry with laughter. LOVE THE VIDEOS !! Keep them coming please and congrats on the 100K subs.
I'm sure you're painfully aware, but you got a lot of feedback on your mic at the new place. Awesome repair... your patience is becoming legendary. BTW. Dave needs his own merch! Trust In Dave.
Ooh, thanks for the feedback on the feedback. 👍 If I'm honest, I didn't notice it too much. I still need to mess around with the placement of my equipment, so hopefully it'll sort out...
yay another stezstix video to curb my hangover. I NEVER understand why people like these damn things. I had a couple like Raycon and some other brand just to see why people like them. I LOATHE ear buds. I like the tried and true over the head ones, ear buds suck.
That plastic like layer on which the component was sitting was fragile like a popcorn I'm having while watching this video... This fix is truly amazing 😍
Nice job. Each time you touched the broken connector I was saying stop f-ing with it :) If you don't want ear buds you can turn them into stereo speakers for your room. Saw a video of how to do that with broken buds.
I didn't appreciate how small these components are until I saw you put the loose capacitor next to Dave. Man that's ridiculously small. Also, I'm fairly certain you popped the capacitor loose when you went under there with your prying tool. Nevermind, you got it fixed, well done!
thank you very much. about a week ago my (r) samsung galaxy bud stopped producing sound. looked for solutions on the web with no real luck. your video just showed up today. when i saw you take it apart i thought I'd try mine. couldn't see anything a miss so i just reassembled it. now it works. all i can assume is something came loose and by fiddling with its innards and snapping back together somehow fixed it. again, thank you.
I showed my misses the capacitor and she burst out laughing at the shear mammoth size of it. Amazes me how you can possibly work on things this small, even with the microscope. I doff my cap to you and your perseverance in the end goal. 👏
Steve, a tip from experience when working with fiddly SMD components. Use a toothpick instead of tweezers to hold/position components. Works about 10x better and, bonus, especially if you're working with hot air, doesn't conduct heat.
My uncle introduced me to your content, and I seriously have to say that the freestyler you did there was an ABSOLUTE BOP! My god Steve, you should have more views than you currently have by now!
Great fix . I'm surprised they are so relatively easy to get into , a bit of solder mask around that connector would have been good if you intended to use them .well done
Your patience and damnright resilience against stress is admirable. Hats of to you Sir. I would have ingested those damn buds just to get rid of 'm. Gift or not.
i see you just like stressing yourself out and once your done you dont care . you love the struggle of trying to get it to work lol i know the feeling .. keep up the good videos
Great job as usual Steve. Could I please make a suggestion to fix your audio. There's been a mains hum sound in the background of the last few videos that's really annoying. Maybe you got a grounding issue somewhere. Thanks
Have you thought about getting a hot plate for smd soldering, and for small Reas, you can get a round or square flat bit that screws onto your soldering iron bit and does small areas of the board
I have been putting off replacing the batteries on my pair of these for months now. After watching this it may be many more months before I forget what took place here and rip mine apart. Thanks 😂
Normally these type of earphones not repaired especially apple Air pods because you can't take them apart but good old Samsung made them to come apart so they can be fixed excellent video & fix 👏👏👏👏
My eyes hurt just thinking about looking at something that small! Well done on the fix, I really didn't think it would have be fixable 👍 Something that may be useful, I recently brought an Omnifixo set, I haven't actually used it yet but I recon one the clamps could have held down that bit of broken connector making it a bit easier to solder. Might be worth adding a set to the tool box 🙂
2 Take-aways from watching this......... 1. Whomever designed these doesn't hate repair technicians. 2. You've increased my courage to learn and start working with SM stuff.
I know other people have said this already so I'll add to the list - you should get some "soldering tweezers" - basically two tiny soldering irons at the end of a pair of tweezers.
Good soldering tweezers aren't cheap, and the ones that *are* cheap aren't nearly that small and aren't nearly that good for putting SMD components on. They're good for taking them off. There's literally nothing in this video that would have been a good usecase for hot tweezers.
I fixed mine yesterday (the exact model end exact colour as well). Been using them from 2018 (5 years). Luckily mine only needed a new batteries and i salvaged the batteries from a donor buds which had lying around as spares already having water damage. Your had worse than mine, It would've been a hard repair for me if mine had issues similar as yours. Great work though.👍✌️
We really need an mp3 album of your singing. Or ill do it myself :) Great video bud, these are now a part of my weekly viewing and you sir...in my top 5 TH-cam channels. Btw, back to life is one of my favourite songs.
I don't think you broke the capacitors. Looks like the thing got an unholy whack at some point. Might even have been shorted with the 1 half on wonky cap. The connector... YIKES (again, I lean towards that as a sign of high velocity damage)! Amazed it works now! Almost as amazed as I was to find out it wasn't welded shut.
Thank you for uploading sweetie. U know what I do? U really do sound like my dad 😭😭 I miss him and I just listen to you when I am going to bed. It's like he is still here fixing the radio but a lot less cussing and beer. Thank you Steve
Awesome! You make me laugh every time thank you! Another one in the "Stupid" fixed pile 🤣 I have done this for years since I was 10'ish so thats 49yrs of fixing everything in my life that breaks I have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Stupid Galaxy Samsung Earbud Type Things
I have been learning micro soldering and things stick to iron or tweezers tiny things fly away or get lost so easy.... Soooo annoying
Send them back. You got the content. Gross old ear buds.
....Dave is Always handy/helpful...Always ....All hail Dave
I'm surprised there no schematics.
😀😀
I love that you held the repaired earbud up to your ear, found it working and then immediately held it up to your other ear to make sure it would still work on that side of your head.
+10 Thoroughness.
This is one of the most impressive fix videos I've ever watched Steve, bloody good effort!
I'm honestly kind of shocked how repairable those earbuds are. Compared to the Apple version that you can only open destructively, these seem positively easy to open and work on. Just a shame about the lack of schematics and other documentation :)
I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm really surprised at how easy it was to pop those ear buds open, and how semi-friendly they were repair-wise.
I'm not... Apple love ripping off their customers. Be it phones to cables to ear buds... Is it broke? Yes... BUY A WHOLE NEW ONE FROM US MUWHAHAHAHA!!
I mean being able to open them up without destroying them is kinda the bare minimum
Ill send some broken air pods to him. It would make a great video... LMAO
@@stephenmanis5258 Yeah, just two clips holding the enclosure together? Too easy.
Stack of PCBs connected with flatflex and you can actually manipulate individual SMD parts and follow traces? But Apple said it couldn't be done.
You have the patience of a saint Steve, I would have chucked that fiddly little thing in the "f__k it bucket" as soon as that connector broke. 👍
Saint Steve.... has a nice ring to it.
Lol, this is exactly what I am thinking watching some of his videos. And this is exactly what companies want. Also the reason why they don't provide sheets and such because one could repair it easier.
Yup me to lol after i adjusted it with a 4lb lump hammer
I admire your willingness to put the thing all the way back together to test it. Years of needing to take stuff back apart 30 more times, means I usually put it back together only as much I need to to test.
Super impressive, that's the first successful repair I've seen on any kind of ear buds , congrats
Dude - I literally punched the air in victory after you successfully got the connector fixed. This was so good. Love it! I can't believe how small those pieces are.
Same. Shouted "let's go" at my television.
I think it's awesome how your skills have improved over time. This thing was utterly microscopic and you got it fixed. Outstanding !
His video editing and on screen presence has improved so much as well. Well done!
Wow, what a top fix Steve. Mega impressed with this one.
Awesome video! I have a pair that doesn't work, and this has made me want to see if it's an easy fix. You were wondering what to do with them. If you use earbuds, samsung buds have been the best I've ever used.
Brilliant patience shown Steve well done and thanks for the upload 😊
Wauw! That was magical how you fixed this tiny bud!
Good job Steve! Those things are damn near impossible to fix and you did it!
Fantastic work as always! I once had to resolder a microscopic coil onto an iphone motherbord, I only had a regular soldering iron tip and no micoscope. Im not sure id ever try it again ;)

You must have the patience of a saint fixing that! It would have been thrown across the room way before that if I was doing it. Great video!
The look on your face at the end was priceless 😂😂😂😂 great fix Steve.
That was an awesome fix! I didn't think you could work on components that small. You did amazing work Steve!
I am taking my hat off to you Steve l was thinking good luck to repairing them but you did WELL DONE 😮 keep your videos coming mr love them 😊
That pink patch with some Xs (around 8:00) could be a humidity test patch, the Xs show up when positive (ie exposed to water).
