Thanks for breaking down how a fighter thinks vs a self-defense person thought process. Much respect to Kenny for always taking the abuse😅

Nicely explained... These distinctions are more important now than ever. The rise of popularity of grappling sports which often put someone in a very dangerous spot...the ground. Doesn't allow for multiple attacker scenarios. An all too overlooked reality.

Excellent comment. Grappling won't do you much good if reinforcements start coming out of the house. Finish the defense quickly and "get out of Dodge": old school saying.

Great video, trained in different styles geared to self defense, our mind set is Do not box with a boxer, do not kick
with a kicker,do not grapple with a grappler, do not fight their fight. Escape to gain safetey, in short, eyes, throat,
Groin, shins. Thank you sir, you are a great instructor

Let me , Sir just review your ideas:
-Itś the Mindset that counts in solving a self-defence problem, whatever martial art style we employ.
-Fighting is not self defence and vice versa. It´s the way of thinking whether we go in, go out or go home.
-More to it : Confidence, beliefes in one´s abilities honesed to the highest possible level.
However, common people would freeze and might be may unable to move! Probably there are some levels to which people might react. 0 level -freezing, Level 1 may be putting his bac inbetween them, level 2 moving in one of the dierections. Probably only level 3 might counteract and level 4 even to Gracie´s ground fighting.
Any way, congratulation anad many thanks. Paul,68, retired instructor, for health reasons.

Yes, thank you self defense is good, but in this case I think you should also emphasize that an effective self defense requires an absolute NO HESITATION reaction...once the regular Joe hesitates the attacker just goes for it....Thank you for the clarity of reality based self defense.

I absolutely love this guy. I was into karate, taekwondo, jujitsu, and a bit of kung fu for over 35 years, and I was good. Now, at 72 years old, I am not that guy anymore. What this man is teaching gives me back the ability to walk down the street knowing that I'll be ok if something happens. Thank you Professor.

The grab of the back of the shirt, and pull down. That technique is taught by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Though I can't recall ever seeing it used.

Great explanations. Its amazing to me how many people can’t separate the difference between a fight and self defense! Avid self defender here! Been engaging as a self defender for almost two tears and we employ many of the exact same concepts. We also have martial artists in our dojo with karate, kung fu, Jiu jitsu, backgrounds and they thrive using these self defense concepts.

Excellent explanation sir may I suggest that you collaborate with a Gracie Juijitsu professor to speak on these topics while explaining what it talked about. That would be one fantastic video. Yes there is a difference between BJJ and Gracie JJ.

  • @soulsearching7336
    @soulsearching7336 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Very well put. Once again breaking down the situation and simplifying it to the degree where the average joe can comprehend. Other reasons (which the Professor mentioned in other video's) not to go to the ground are: 1. A fight is fluid so one doesn't know who will impact the concrete. And the pavement is very hard. and 2. You don't know how many friends your opponent has with him? Who may attack you when you two get to the ground.
Too many variables even for a trained fighter like a Gracie. So much can go wrong in those few moments. That said, Blessings to all this holiday season. Stay safe. Ous.

Your approach is so wonderful, the genius is in the simple moves, they can be applied by themselves, or they can be incorporate in any martial art. When you say V step, GoJu Ryu has the same concept, movements at a 45 degree angle. You and Kenny and your staff are just simply wonderful. Thank you so very much for what you guys do.

Excellent video, one of your best imo, agree with multiple attackers scenario why ground is dangerous and I’ve trained a lot of it, but I believe the kicking entry is always dangerous too, weather slipping etc I prefer your other options.

As a public service, I will add two other Vee A J JuJitsu youtube videos here that underscore this point on fighting vs. self-defense that I really liked. The one with the paint brush vs paint roller ( th-cam.com/video/O-fH-hNpTtk/w-d-xo.html) and the older one about training to exploit your window of opportunity (th-cam.com/video/Khz67FXQjEU/w-d-xo.html). Peace.
