    The reason why I choose to go with Yamaha is because of KTM's greedy business decision to lock its features behind a paywall. Its reliability is already assumed to be questionable, but now we have to pay even more to use the bike at its fullest. Just shows the company's true intent with their customers.

    Agreed.....I been jonesing for the MT09 for years, just get stuck in analysis paralysis mode with the 890, now glad I did. I think the 2024 MT09 is clearly a much better MT09. You didn't mention the turning radius changes for the MT09? Which was always a beef with the prior MT09s. Does that compare with the Duke's? Also, the new Duke's exhaust can be replaced with a slip on exhaust can - have to switch out to a complete whole exhaust system on the MT09. Neither one of those issues are deal breakers tho for me and the new MT09. My only problem now is age - my age (in my mid 70's) Do I still want to ride a performance oriented bike (last bike was a ZX10R - 2006, sold in 2014 and yes, took a moto class last year to make sure I still could even ride, lol))or just buy and easy going cruiser....nah....only live once, yeah? Yamaha for me hands down. Biggest issue in town for me though is the turning angle. It was a while since I tried it but it stays very vivid in my memory as it can be downright bike dropper. It locks way too soon when you expect much more wiggle room. Newer ones apparently better but do try before you buy.

  • @gxtoast2221

    The 2024 is still upright but with the additional constraint of that seat restricting movement rearward. The 2021-2023 MT-09 allowed the rider to move further up the seat to elongate and stretch out over the tank to get more horizontal and closer to the bike. Make some slight modification to the seat of the 2021-2023 MT-09 and get a seamless long seat ideal for greater movement on the bike. Not possible with the 2024 bike.
    For anyone serious about riding position the 2021-2023 bike can be modified with a Woodcraft clip on with shorter risers, and rear sets that raise the pegs up and to the back towards the rear wheel. If you look at a sport bike like the CBR1000RR you can see that the rear sets are only a couple inches in front of the rear wheel and the back of the seat is almost above the rear axle. It is possible to replicate this rider triangle on the 2021-2023 bike and not on the 2024.

    I'm a KTM sucker (owned an EXC300 TPI, Duke 890R and Duke 990), the 890R came with a standard quick shift but I had to pay for downshifts (and pretty much every other tech feature anti-wheelie etc.). I got my Duke 990 a couple of weeks ago and just yesterday the demo mode expired, the damn thing won't even quick shift up! How can they shit on their clients in such a way?!

  • @tyranid05
    @tyranid05 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I refuse to support KTM because if it can be enabled with a keystroke, it can be disabled as well. At least with paying for optionals like a quick shifter outright you can't have it removed later on. I'm not saying that's going to happen now, but this is one slippery step away from a feature leasing program like what BMW tried to do with their heated seats and mood lighting

    KTM builds bikes that are exciting and fun to ride, but they struggle with electrical issues, and now with cam failures in the LC8c engine, my confidence in KTM's ability to effectively resolve these problems has diminished. On the other hand, Yamaha, with its CP3 engine, excels in both longevity and quality.

    How do you compare a KTM that has WP suspension with a standard MT-09? That's no where near the best MT-09 you can get. You really should have compared the SP version of the MT-09 instead of the budget version -- or waited for its release to do the comparison. I'm sure the KTM would likely still win out on handling but the comparison would have been much more accurate than going with the budget suspension bike. Otherwise, this was a fairly good review.

    Had a look at both bikes recently. The MT is pretty much as as it appears in the pictures/videos, but the KTM in the flesh was quite underwhelming. The all black frame, engine, and underpinnings are not sufficiently offset by the KTM signature orange, and the bike is much less visually exciting/interesting than the 890R. With a price in Aus of just North of A$20K it's just not worth the almost A$3K over the Yamaha IMO..
