True that - but the real reason not to buy KTM is they have just terrible engines in terms of reliability. Previous 890 was finally admitted by KTM to be basically failed from factory engine just like 790 before it.

After multiple trips to the dealership I ended up giving up and selling it for a $10,000 loss (including taxes). Please don’t make the same mistake that I made. I think the info a 8:37 is wrong. The 890 Duke R has a seat height that's closer to 33 inches, or ~835mm. It's the BASE model Duke 890/790 that had the 820mm seat. I used to have both. The upgraded suspension on the Duke 890R made it noticeably taller. Seems the 990 sits right in-between the two at 825mm. Got to sit on one last week and it felt sorta like a wider 890 Standard.
KTM should be able to hire a good designer to re-design the headlamp. It should not be that hard. Also, foot pegs should be less aggressive ( or at least adjustable ), so that it fits needs of people who what less aggressive ergonomics/more upright position.
I have one on order should be here in the next few weeks! Super excited! The pay wall tech pack is dumb as fuck but so am I for doing it so it makes sense.
Awesome video! As for the free time for options I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. You know it going in beforehand . A little over a year ago I bought a new motorcycle with everything available. If after a year I could choose , cafeteria style, what I wanted to keep I would have loved that choice. Some things on my bike I will never use. Other things I would keep. I love the style of this bike. When I look at the headlight I see a Gladiator helmet, which is very cool. Best!
I’m the US the 2023 890R MSRP’s for $12,949 while the 2024 990 MSRP’s for $12,500. So at least here the 990 is less. I just converted the UK price to USD and it comes out at $16,526 so I see why you complain about the price so much over there.
Well well well, KTM’s are the best bikes just look through a couple of things like paying extra. Reliability is way better then it was. I own my second KTM and in the future I will probably buy this one or the 1290 or 1390 duke.
It seems KTM and boat owners have a similar experience. The two happiest days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I'd be curious what percentage of KTM owners would buy a KTM again. It would be a good MotoBob vid all be it risky if it turns out badly but on the other hand it might put to rest what we hear almost every time a review comes out.
It's really difficult to get good reliability data because manufacturers are hardly going to give it out, and dealers won't want to be publicising how many warranty issues they have to fix. Personally I would be looking at the user reviews under MCN's main reviews, as they give you an average for the reliability score and there's plenty more insight if you sift through them. But it's not really for me to be publishing MCN's hard-earned user generated content. Perhaps once a year we could run a survey or something... I'll think about it! But appreciate the constructive feedback 👍
@@motobobThanks, I used the NHTSA data base to collect complaints and recalls on 13 brands over 5 years from 2016 through 2021 in the U.S.. I'm not sure other countries track the same information and whether individuals can access it. I did it because I was curious but it was time consuming. Once you get the number of recalls and complaints it was kind of neat digging down to the types of issues. Although KTM did not issue many recalls - they were the 5th best they dead last in the number of complaints to number of recalls . All that means customers are finding the issues and complaining but nothing much was being done. Conversely Aprilla the same number of recalls but were first in the ratio of complaints to recalls which means better customer service. One last tid bit BMW was last in recalls with 174 followed by Harley 120 and Ducati 119. The most reason for recalls for all 13 brands was front and rear brake issues accounting for 25.66% of all recalls. Surprisingly mechanical issues accounted for 72% and electrical was 28% of recalls.

almost 35K km (2 years) here without a single issue and the bike (Duke 390) is ridden hard every single day. The only bike ever gave me serious and continuous trouble until it died at 40K km was a Kawasaki (ZRX1200R) should i think that Kawasakis are unreliable?
£4,000 more than an MT09!?!......for a gain of 5hp and the constant worry about reliability. You'd have to be a total moron to even consider it. Are these things as uncompetitive in other markets? Good grief!
MT all the way. Tried those two bikes and a Streety RS on the last weekend and the KTM feels cheap and rought. I cant deside - super smooth streety or rowdy MT…
Try them both, for me, the MT feels a bit cheap and on the plush side while the Duke more lively but for you it may be different, so try them and take your time doing it.
BLOWN away they would internionally weaken the swingarm making more flexible "for better traction" when virtually all the serious pro roadrace bikes get super reinforced swing arms...I dont understand? I wonder if it is REALLY "improved traction" and instead "safer traction for the street" which would be something else again? I also completely dont understand the contradictory statements about the 900 quid optionl tech package being free....how can it be both things??? Or do they just mean it is "free" with purchase.....but just does not WORK? Which is then some "free" dead weight? Maybe next they put a lock cylinder on the fork caps and then install spacers to remove 30 percent of travel unless you PAY for them to remove the blocks.? Or maybe a lock cylinder on the fuel tank so there are muliple length feed tubes? the "free one" only allows you to access 3 gallons from a 5 gallon tank but for $500 you can have the optional tube installed and access ALL the fuel in tank? Hey would it be any less insulting? As it is I would not buy any motorcycle model with locked anything that I already paid for physically...I mean if it were truly like NEW software upgrade that would be something else like upgrading to the latest version of Windows used to be but for ANYTHING physical? THAT is just ridiculous! WHY does anyone tolerate it even??
Such a shame the Husqvana svartpillen wasn't based on this machine. That hallmark KTM headlight shape is ugly AF. I hope they can completely bin it and come up with something more universally appealing. The transformers looks of the KTMs makes them a hard no for me even though I like everything else about this bike.
The power/capacity creep is actually ridiculous; what’s the point of the high capacity bikes (nakeds, adv bikes) if these “mid”-capacity bikes have all this power? I’m starting to think the only reason people buy the bigger bikes is ego and getting caught up in the marketing hype.
Notice how its almost impossible to get brand new bike and expect it to work faultlessly for even first 10k km or year. Went things got so bad and why we keep accepting this crap? But I just bought a new bike (2020 790 Duke) and if I was in the market for a new, I would probably look at the new Svartpilen 801. 25% cheaper than the 990 here in Denmark.
Thank you mr Bob!
790 Duke is a great choice! And probably a bargain relative to this one. Enjoy :)
@@motobob Yes, almost half price! With the whole package aswell. And since it was never used I got a new euro4 bike. I'm very pleased. Thank you!
Where are the brembo brakes 😂
Not great value versus the competition. Buy one 2nd hand next year with the Tech Pack and an Akrapovic already fitted.
2:03 sounds like a mid range scooter.
Expensive but I love it. I owned a 790 Duke but sold it due to quality and reliability issues. Hope they have improved
KTM should be able to hire a good designer to re-design the headlamp. It should not be that hard.
Also, foot pegs should be less aggressive ( or at least adjustable ), so that it fits needs of people who what less aggressive ergonomics/more upright position.
I cant get over the thing u buy a bike and u get a free trial of it 😂 insane
I think the MT09 SP is much better value than this 990, and sounds better imo
I just purchased one KTM 990 I’ll let you know how it go
I have one on order should be here in the next few weeks! Super excited! The pay wall tech pack is dumb as fuck but so am I for doing it so it makes sense.
I love your comment!
I was surprise how light to handling this beast despite 990cc
I was half tempted to change my Street Triple RS for one, but in person it's hideous, and too expensive.
I would NEVER trade my 24’ STR RS for this. NEVER.
@@ZabDevin YOU never tried one 🤣Street fighter V2 looks and goes better then both ✊🔥
@@helgejohan3604 I do love the Street Fighter and it does look great. But what does that have to do with the ugly KTM? 🤣😈

It looks like an AI robot designed and built it. But if a robot built it it probably wouldn't leak.
Best!
For me it is a battle between this beauty or the Ducati Monster SP, guess I will have to test ride them both.
Another great video Rob. But there are 2 reasons why not too buy it 1st price and second you have much better looking Husqvarna Svarpilen 701😊😂❤❤
I won't buy a KTM out if principle due to their business practices of a paywall.
👍🏾
Its the way of the world these days.
Yeah that turned me off as well.
Thanks for sharing! 😂
It's still going to KeepTakingMoney
Sir is it better than street triple rs?
I’ve had a 22 890r for 2 years now 6k miles on it absolutely no issues handles amazing much more comfortable then any lay over bike plenty of power for my first bike very minimal mods and I’m very happy with it
On my 4th KTM and never had a bit of bother with any of them
almost 35K km (2 years) here without a single issue and the bike (Duke 390) is ridden hard every single day.
The only bike ever gave me serious and continuous trouble until it died at 40K km was a Kawasaki (ZRX1200R) should i think that Kawasakis are unreliable?
I'll wait for the R Evo version next year and decide
Really like the looks but it needs a short exhaust.
I still feel street triple rs would beat in out and out
Definitely would beat the 990 Duke on a track and be more reliable. it isn’t as much fun on the road.
Totally agree!
The current gen mt09 is a way better buy
No doubt there will be an R version
Would love to get a 990 super duke Vs 990 duke comparison
10:17 all I need to know
£13k for a middleweight naked.... ROFLMAO
Mid to Large capacity?
Bratha anything above 800cc is a rocket
£4,000 more than an MT09!?!......for a gain of 5hp and the constant worry about reliability. You'd have to be a total moron to even consider it. Are these things as uncompetitive in other markets? Good grief!
Ktm is super fun ❤
If you think this bike is better than the 890 Duke R, I've got some blinker fluid to sell you.
In India it might come for 8000 usd equivalent. How's it at that price
This or the MT-09?
MT all the way.
Tried those two bikes and a Streety RS on the last weekend and the KTM feels cheap and rought.
I cant deside - super smooth streety or rowdy MT…
I'd be happy with either.
Try them both,
for me, the MT feels a bit cheap and on the plush side while the Duke more lively but for you it may be different, so try them and take your time doing it.
WHY does anyone tolerate it even??
damn 13k, wonder how much the 990RC R will be then..
Sounds like a top of the line lawnmower
Best job in the world
Dat headlight...
I’m love just looking at the comments, just to remind myself not to be tempted to buy a KTM 😅
Brand new MY2023 Duke 890R's can be had for £9.5K.
Im interested to see if these are still super unreliable like the 890. Thats something no reviewers ever cover bc they dont actually own the bike
Dude the sound is absolute 🗑️
lc8c camshafts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... say no more
The power/capacity creep is actually ridiculous; what’s the point of the high capacity bikes (nakeds, adv bikes) if these “mid”-capacity bikes have all this power? I’m starting to think the only reason people buy the bigger bikes is ego and getting caught up in the marketing hype.
Notice how its almost impossible to get brand new bike and expect it to work faultlessly for even first 10k km or year.
Went things got so bad and why we keep accepting this crap?
They literally spit in our(customers) faces and we happily say its raining and keep buying this extremely overpriced disposable toys
Creepy processing quality of the buttons. I actually really like KTM, but this motorbike is far too expensive.
Keep The Manual
3.5k dearer than the 890r is too much, they have priced this bike wrong, i will stick to my Gen 3 1290 SDR which was cheaper
This bike is probably awesome to ride but to expensive and looks awful no wonder they giving the Tech pack away already
And it's because, KTM found a way to include DLC you have to pay for to keep, is why I most definitely, won't be getting one.
This bike is just stupid just buy mt 09 sp which is better snd cheaper and a lot more reliable
How can a bike this scary be considered a middleweight!?????🙄
Looks cool.. but those UK number plates... 🤢
"No Bullshit" they said from KTM but wants you to pay extra to unlock the techs they already have on the bike, For me, that's bs.
I love my ktm 890 smt.... I hope they bring out a 990 smt... as that would be amazing...
I hate there is no fairing
Paying best part of a grand for a tech package that's already on is a deal breaker, sorry KTM I love your bikes but it would feel like robbery.
Absolutely awesome bike & great review but this is soo ugly absolutely everywhere & thats the main reason why ive never bought a KTM as they are absolutely hideous!!🤮 But great video!!👌🏻👍🏻
I’ll take a Z900 se lol
YUCK……. But I’m sure it’s great fun to ride, until something breaks
they must have left the 890 duker as normal 890duke and an new 990 duke r instead of this ... this thing is waste of money ... with stylema , 130hp , and a 2-3kg less weight the r version will drop a year or two later which would be a upgrade to 790 or 765 2020 model owners... the 890duke r is one the best bikes made as a ktm and the 890 smt is a underdog but the normal 890 and this just dont justify the price
KTM All Day.. never had a problem and I beat the shit out of it and never had a problem.. Yamaha just plain ugly as hell...beast it All Day KTM...❤❤❤
I've had 5 1290 Super Dukes so I clearly love the mark & I know the 990 is a great bike ......BUT the look of the thing is awful, just imagine seeing that in your garage, it's as sexy as a house brick & that headlight is the killer & the fact that it's the same unit on the 1390 is a disaster. I won't be buying either.
To me, it looks like a Chinese clone... maybe it's the shiny looking exhaust 🤔
Love the idea of this bike, but the pay to play nonsense is a massive turn off. I can get a "like new" used MT-10 with low km for less...Not to mention Yammy reliability and that CP4 engine... or a new last years SD1290 for 2K more... Para twins are also a big turn off to me, it's a bias I have, I think beginner bike, I know it's pure BS but it's a thought I can't seem to shake. They're a simple and cheap engine to make, so why the high cost? It's funny how its gone full circle and the Duke 990 is what the SD990 was 20 years ago. (I'm sure its a better bike, right? It"s abetter bike right????)
Ok I’ve been wondering, what is the difference between orientated (is that even a real word?) and oriented?

@@rabola55 😄 you should add: "prove me wrong"
Oh dear, you really have lost your way.The front of that like looks like its been crashed. Price is ridiculous.
design is the only letdown in this bike.
Is this bike a Chinese KTM?
Nope, all made in austria. Thats why they're so fucking expensive. Way too expensive. Only the 790 Duke and Adventure are assembled in China by CF Moto.
@@deeehuuundthe 2023 and 2024 790’s are assembled in China but the 2019 and 2020’s are all Austrian. My 790 is a 2020 so hopefully I’m safe from these issues everyone keeps talking about. So far absolutely no issues with my 790.
