I have the 3rd gen Mt09 sp ! I've owned several bikes and i can tell you one thing. I'll never sell the Yamaha. Perfect engine, perfect power, perfect price ! 10/10 bike
I agree I have the 2022 Gen3 and I have to say that I tried so many bikes and no one of them can beat the MT09 Gen 3. I havent tried the new Gen4 but all I can say that I like the Gen3 more from what I have seen live how the quality went down
The electronics of the MT-09 work much better, the brakes are much better, the build quality and material quality are better. Additionally, the sound of the triple engine is pure bliss.
I'll have to wait till next time for the verdict. It's hard to get my head around the price of the 990, I paid £7.5k for my (2021) 790 Duke (tech pack included), and with the 990 being almost twice the price, is it really twice the bike - I don't think so. I think I'd opt for the MT-09 SP 👍
The 990 throwing false neutrals too? That is the main reason i got rid of my 1390 after three weeks, not acceptable. But i found happiness on a BMW S1000XR so it was a blessing in disguise i guess😅
Nice review, always good to see you guys together. As for the bikes, both are decent but I'd have lean towards the Yamaha SP due to the bulletproof reliability.
Awesome! A road trip to Wales and a naked middleweight shootout...what more could you ask for? The fastest machine from 0 to 20 mph 😂 Great review as always, guys. Can't wait for the second part.😊👍
I've been looking for a new bike, and nothing has really interested me for one reason or another. Then, the new MT-09 SP comes along and it's really caught my eye. The overall package is fantastic, and it looks very hard to beat when you compare it to other bikes in the same category. Yamaha has also addressed the front-end handling problems that plagued the earlier models. I'll probably wait until early next year, and see what deals are available, unless something comes along at the end of the season. Hopefully, we'll get lucky in the UK and see some sun next year, because this year the weather has been 🤬 dreadful, it's like a scene out of Blade Runner!
Great comparison, guys! I keep cross shopping these two bikes. When I lean toward the Ktm, the $12,500 USD price tag plus the tech pack, opens up the door for the MT10 to enter the picture. Looking forward to part ii, and to see how the 990 Duke R looks.
Well done guy's looking forward to pt2, go on Greg smashing that burger you devil ? I was going to say get a room but you did oh oh, ATB Wayne.............😀👍
Never owned a KTM, and never will, but when my brother told me he wanted a superduke R I said get an MT10 or something. He didn't listen and bought a 2022. He's had it 3 months and he's had it to the dealership twice for electrics issues and one of those times he was 200 quid for a sensor and diagnostics. A few days ago it completely fking died on him on the way to work in the rain. Had to get it recovered to his house and has to get a man with a van to take it to the dealership next week. He was already second guessing his choice because of the full system exhaust - it is wildly, obnoxiously loud on start up. Poor cnt.
@@ewganhoff It's hilarious that KTM is going bankrupt and all these people are wringing their hands "the storied bike manufacturer might disappear!," but they don't know how to make a waterproof wiring harness. I've seen bikes that had water get into the instrument cluster and short it out...that's just a GASKET. You can buy a waterproof box for $6, and these guys can't figure out how to keep the rain out of a $22k motorcycle after 90 years.
By far the Best motorcycle review channel out there, the comparison rides are just awesome. If i had to choose it would be MT09, love it. Keep up the great work 👍
Really enjoying the videos lately. Maybe you boys should get a 765 RS and something else to compare against soon. Looking forward to the next videos 👍🏻
Looking forward to the next installment. I'm surprised you're both happy with the seat comfort on the MT09,my one criticism of my gen 4 is I find it uncomfortable after an hour or so,the factory comfort seat is an improvement but not a game changer. All round a great bike though I get home from riding it thinking I'm blessed to have that cp3 engine in it🤩
I had a KTM 1290 SAS before, with the Powerpart heated seat. I currently ride a standard MT09. I cannot say that the seat is better, but the overall comfort (buttwise) definitely is, because of the global sitting position. The MT-09 definitely isn't *super* comfy, but it is absolutely ok. If you are that sensitive, you should look at the BMW R series.
The 2024 MT-09 (SP or not) makes every other bike below $15.000 feel like a heap of hot shit in comparison. If you got the this MT-09 there is nothing else in the world that you would want to upgrade to in a long time.
I watched your Street Triple versus 890 video, and eventually bought the 765 RS. I remember you mentioning they were very close, and it basically boiled down to personal preference. How does the 765 stack up to either of these, considering they are also in the class?
Honestly the comparison reviews done by you both are so good! Right mixture of banta, bike critique and getting across the feeling the bike gives you 👍🏼 I’ve just started a bike channel and would love to be producing vids like yours one day 👏👏

Awesome review guys! I have been waiting for you to release this review. When is the second part coming? I test rode the 990 Duke and MT-09 (not SP) yesterday. As you say the 990 feels attached to the road, the instant torque is awesome, and the sound! Then the MT-09 is nearly there but has the reliability. I'm torn between the two.
Great review so far guys & very funny you two are!!😆 The SP is my favourite at the moment & think going by your review so far its going to be the one to go for me thinks!!👌🏻👍🏻
The 990 duke here in Canada costs $15,700 + $1200 tech pack + tax. The MT09-SP is $17,300+tax. So its almost identical in price here. If the MT09SP was cheaper here I would have definitely purchased it over the 990.
This channel has really come on by leaps and bounds recently. Partly because of the comparison type videos with Greg I think. It's a bit more old school top gear like... Entertaining and fun.

I couldn’t get over how big the switch gear was on the new Yamahas, just a massive block on the handlebar. Still chose a Street RS over the MT09SP. The MCS master cylinder and general build quality was higher.
Love the video, keep up the good work! I say ktm is too expensive if when you buy the tech pack it makes the ktm 2000! Pounds more Yamaha or 765 all day! The 990 is in Ducati monster price range without the quality No thanks.
I have a -21 790 Duke and tried the 990. For me, to swap, is not worth the money. The 990 is a better bike, yes. But what is "better"? I mean, the 790 does what I want. Do I need a bike that can do more? YES! But is it worth the extra money...not in my finacial position.
Where i live, the KTM is, price-wise, comparable to the MT-10 and MT-10SP. A bit more expensive than the MT-10 and cheaper, by about 2000€, than the MT-10SP
Looking forward to see which bike you would recommend. Had the 1st gen FZ until I had enough and sold it. The handling was so bad but the engine was great. Thinking of picking up KTM next time. I prefer handling prowess over engine as I'm doubtful with this new MT. Still short wheelbase and short shock travel = unsteady rear under heavy load for me
That looks like a nice spin, ps you stopped at Vellin Vach , the F's sound like V's. Greg must have been hungry, rolling his eyes like a great white shark as he bites that poor burger
I decided for the SP. I could just try the Standard MT-09 and tried the Duke 990 two times. Will the KTM is fantastic but the suspension just does not have the level auf an Öhlins/KYB (or Showa) setup. And the Yamaha is just the better package with even more functions. But (!) the SP is quite different from the standard MT. It is even better. I am just in love. For me it is at the moment nearly the best bike on the market 🤷♂️

Great job boys. Anyone who knows me knows I think the mt09 is twice the value of the 990. The mt09 is a vehicle you can rely on and ride daily. The 990 is a toy and while I haven’t had hands on one I’ve got a buddy with a 790 and one with an 890. Also have 2 dudes in our group that ride gen 3(?) superdukes. If we line them up (at the track of course 😊) they come around my z1000 over 130-140 mph but they’ve never been able to get away in the twisties and my 150lb body weight and 7 years on the same bike get me off the line faster
Great review boys! I live in the area of the test, great roads hey? I’m so lucky, but the weather comes with my territory . Welsh bikers ride in all weathers as they have to, otherwise the bike stays in the garage. 😂😂 Harley riders still ignore us though, they are too busy trying to get round corners and plough the fields.

Preferred the KTM with the higher silencer 🤔
How are chocolate camshaft on KTM holding up ……. is it a more popular gossip than GS 1300 recalls??
Great review boys! I live in the area of the test, great roads hey? I’m so lucky, but the weather comes with my territory . Welsh bikers ride in all weathers as they have to, otherwise the bike stays in the garage. 😂😂 Harley riders still ignore us though, they are too busy trying to get round corners and plough the fields.
Fantastic roads! Like you say get the weather and it's incredible 👍
@@LambChopRides if you get the chance try Builth Wells to Llandovery Road. Watch for speed trap approaching Llandovery, then try the grub at Owls Nest just outside the town, not the West end cafe (food crap) 👍👍
Yes that was actually part of the planned route that first day if the rain hadn't set in.. 😫
@@LambChopRides glad you’ve done this review as I’m a potential customer for either bike.
Cracking video has that KTM got the chocolate engine.
It didn't melt on our trip! 😄👍
Super nice motor both 😊
Brilliant!!
Has to be the Yam for me. 👍
Would be nice if the 990 was a v-twin
It should be for the price!
@@robertprosser6856 completely agree. I don't even see the point in a 990 parallel twin
