As a coach, this is the sort of video I’ll be showing to the young athletes I look after. Excellent.
That’s really great to hear thank you!
Congratulations! You did great! Thanks for keeping it real!
Well done Andy, one of the nicest runners out there.
Thank you! That's very nice of you to say 😊
I love how genuine this video is. Most TH-camrs will only show the races they do win, not the full story like this, love it.
Well done Andy. You are marathon training not 5k training so you did well.
Thank you!!
To complete a 5k in that time, IN THAT HEAT, was phenomenal. Great job, Andy!
As a successful racer it would have been easy to not have posted this content for fear of not feeling like you did yourself justice....but great to see that you have enough humility to put out the raw content, warts and all. Its nice for a 50yr old weekend warrior racer like myself to see what its like to be a former pro dealing with a change in your bodies capabilites as you age
Awesome Andy! Looking forward to your attempt at the Parkrun record 😉
Andy, you are marvelous! As I watched this video, I couldn't help but to think how proud your kids must be of you. I can't imagine how emotional a return to racing must feel after finding such success in life post Olympics
I loved you sharing about the struggle of the fight over wanting to really fight and race or to stay comfortable. It’s something that I struggle with every practice.
I know you were putting in max effort but you really make it look effortless. Such a great running style. You are still an amazing runner Andy. Can’t wait to see how you get on over the marathon 💪
Great insight Andy - well done on 4th. Lots of us would be very happy with that !
Thanks James! Have you got any races coming up?
Great video! I understand the struggle of “how much do I want this?”. Every time I go for a PB I have battle my body telling me to slow down and just get after it.
Congrats on 4th, an awesome result!
Well done Andy, I could feel your pain ! 😬It doesn't get any easier when you get older either, slower and suffer longer 😖
Andy, that was AWESOME! I don't care what level of athletics you attained in the past, coming back after a 7 yr. racing layoff is a lot to ask for. Great job!
That’s how I feel every training run lol as I work my way back after a year off for injury, PT, osteoarthritis issues etc. We keep running. Let’s goooo!
Fantastic, Andy! Not every win has to be a podium finish. Personal goals are just as important. Thanks for sharing this one with us.
The guy who fished behind andy looked like he was full on sprinting, Andy looked like he was walking. Andy has a deceptively very fast style! I guess thats why he was called the hovercraft!
You got to run around Monza Andy! Insanely jealous. Well done for the 4th place finish. We were there for the grand prix - wish I'd known this was on! :D
It was an amazing experience! 😁🤯
Great job Andy, you rock, so inspiring to watch! Well done!
Love everything about this! Andy still has fire in his belly!
I loved this video, it’s great to walk through the process of goal setting, preparation, and tempering expectations based on your performance against yourself. An inspiring and successful race! Nicely done!
Awesome video-loved the commentary and the insight into your thoughts during the race 👌
Well done Andy! Such an inspiring video/athlete/runner/person… hope it’s given you a renewed sense of confidence and drive to go back out there and fight for it again. I really enjoy watching your videos, especially the ones you run in, where we are reminded what an amazing athlete you are
Well done Andy, I loved the detailed insightful breakdown of pre & during the race. Congratulations 4th place is excellent & your sub 17 is definitely something to be proud of. Cannot wait to see how you attack the marathon
This was a great video. Thanks. Love to hear the thought process throughout.
This is really inspiring me to dig a little deeper! :) thank you, great video! Fantastic performance 👏
Brilliant, Andy. Such an inspiration to all runners out there
Excellent effort Andy; you are a SuperStar! This is a fantastic result given that you are training for a full marathon. It shows your versatility in running scenarios - a skill that very few have. You remain a winner to many viewers of TRC. Congrats!
Brilliant stuff... insightful, meaningful and just the real truth - can't beat it. Hope to see more of these...
Great video! Loved seeing you talk through your feel of the race! Would love to see more TRC race videos!
Thanks for your honesty and inspiration.
I learned the other day that you won the New York mile once, one of many talented GB runners.
You still have grit and talent.
Well done Andy. I really enjoyed the commentary on this video and it was interesting to see you remember what it was like competing. Good job!
Awesome race, Andy. Being back there challenging yourself to compete in a race like that again is already a win. Well done. Now off to the next one.
This is an amazing inspiring video, well done Andy - with you on that the conditions play a major part on race day.
Love how he still bags a 16:53. Legend.
Well done Andy 👏. Your running form looked great throughout, even when you said you were struggling. And in that heat too!
Great work Andy! Keep inspiring!!
Great insight/video Andy and still super impressive time 👏👏👏
Andy its true what you said in TRC podcast. Your running style looks soooo relaxed and slow but you’re running faster than I can even sprint
Amazing! Thank you The Running Channel. Andy, you are a badass!
Love the analysis and detail.
Legend - thank you, AB!
Amazing effort Andy and a great insight to your pre race build up too👊
this was amazing to watch. As a 50 year old, I always look back at what I used to be capable of and get annoyed with myself. This show us we are all mortals!
Well done Andy, good to see you racing. Great advice and commentary 👍
Glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏻
Thank you - great commentary helps with understanding the how and why! 😊
GREAT JOB ANDY!!! Very inspiring!!!!
Thank you, Andy. This was inspiring.
Thanks for sharing your thought process.
Wow!! That was just amazing 😮
OMG your impressive to even try this. 🎉4th place on your first try back, means you can still improve and try another if you want. You’ve still got it Andy ❤
Great video, thanks Andy.
Well done Andy, that was really neat to watch. I would love to see you go all out over a short distance again in the future... after your marathon, of course!
Another brilliant video.
This was awesome and just what I needed now, because I am going to have my first (ever) 5k race this weekend! Thanks Andy and TRC
Good luck!! How are you feeling about it?
@@runningchannel Nervous, but also excited to see how I perform in a race and to see if my training has been paying off. I've played football all my life but due to persistent injuries I've had to pack it in, so got into running just the last few months. Following your channel has helped make the process a joy :)
I'm also looking forward to setting a benchmark 'race' 5k time which can then help guide my future training, which currently is quite unguided and naïve.
@@CamMci Good luck, for me having recently started too, the most important part of reaching 5k targets was the mental aspect. There was much more possible physically than I expected when I mentally decided to just push on and don´t fall prey to my body/brain telling me to slow down after 3-4k xd
Good luck. Enjoy embracing the unknown
Incredible job, well done!! I can't wait to see what you do in the marathon! I love races like that are a total cool experience like that. I used to do a 5k on a Nascar track every year, but it included the motorcycle race hills too, in the dead of summer. 🥵
Wow that sounds so tough!! 🥵
Really enjoyed this video! I really love finding out what people think during runs and the processes they go through to finish the race. Well done on a great run and a great video!
Really glad you enjoyed it Natasha! 😁
Your self-talk got me all up in my feels, as a retired racer!
Love all of the presenters but man these Andy videos are always amazing.
Yawning with adrenaline? That's a new one for me. I used to barely sleep before a fight when I did kickboxing, and could not sit still for the whole morning of the big day. Loving these running videos from you guys. Subscribed!
Nice effort Badders. You've still got it. Next time you'll ave them you've got the taste back.
Lovely :) Well done Andy!
Excellent job Andy!!! Racing is so much more fun than training! :)
great runners content, thank you
First race back thats pretty amazing andy.
Well done, Andy!
Fantastic effort Andy, nice to see you competing again too! Funnily enough I saw a post from the oval this morning with your name on the honours board from 2000! Keep it up, loving the content. Definitely sharing with my young athletes here in Nanjing:)
Best running channel video yet!
Really inspiring for my Vitality 10k effort this weekend.. have a goal in mind, but it's a stretch.. the first 5 will be all about getting the pace right and I am sure at 7 or 8k it's going to be all about how much I want it... will definately think back to this video!
Well done getting back out there Andy. Still fantastic time sub 17. As a former professional runner i still love competing and at age 50+ hoping to crack sub 17 over the next 3 months
Great run Andy, what an experience to run Monza!
That’s awesome Andy!!! Proud of you 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Nathaniel! 😁
well done mate. Still a great time and performance. I'd like to see what you can do at the marathon with a bit of time and training!
This is cool asf. I love this channel!!
A nice insight into running.
As a big F1 fan, I would love to give this sort of thing a go. It looks so much fun. I hope you took the F1 racing line round the circuit
Well done Andy u did amazing ❤
Well done Andy that’s class! Brilliant result In that environment there 🙌 you did excellent! New to this channel and loving it! I was a sub 15 min runner when I was 16-24 but I’m now your age, between 26-40 I kinda stopped running and during Covid I started running once a week without fail, I’ve gone from running circa 26 mins to now just in the 23 outdoors and 21 mins on a treadmill for 5k. Now running twice a week and going to see if I can get sub 21 mins on the road within a few years and keep at it!
Would like to go sub 20’s and will certainly work for it over the next 2-3 years I hope.
Keep up the great work guys ❤️ love the channel 🫶
Absolute legend 💪
Well done Andy! 💪😎
Great job Andy!
Love this thank you
Congratulations Andy 😊
Excelent!!!! 7 years make a diference
You're an absolute legend, Andy.
We agree just don’t tell him that 😂
@runningchannel Hahaha I won't say a word 😄
Great video 👍
Good push at the end :) It was nice to see Sarah rooting for you instead of razzing you 😊
This is superb content. Love it!
I would LOVE to get a chance to run Monza!
Well done Andy!
Let's goooo! We'll done
A humble king 👑
Fab video, well done Andy!
More importantly, have you finished the book? 😂
No matter what happened, you're the winner to me with the blue and orange shoe combination.
Way to Andy!!! 💥
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Good on you though Andy!🎉
Great effort Andy, and some nice drafting! Would you ever try the Mount Panorama Punish in Bathurst, Australia? One lap, 6.2 km, and must finish in 60 minutes.
excellent video
Lotte is sooooo beautiful!
Great video. Do it again!
It is so refreshing to hear that pros get nervous too!
