I know it's an old one but an interview with Steve Jones breaking the world record for marathon in the early 1980's would give an insight into how good he was and the comparison with training methods today..Jones was an absolute beast and also the difference in shoe tech...his times from 40 years ago on a British front would be beating all today and getting his thoughts why British mens marathon running at elite level outside of Farah has struggled to move forward...great interview with Wightman

It's amazing that his Dad remained impartial during commentary. It reminded me of Harry Carpenter losing his impartiality when Frank Bruno fought Mike Tyson! Harry Carpenter always said that he was ashamed of that as he felt it was very unprofessional.
very inspiring from Jake. huge fan and I also love his YT page. seems like a genuine top bloke. Paul Chelimo is my favourite runner atm so if you can have a sit down with him, that would be great. "Go hard or suffer for the rest of your life" lol
It is a bit of a shame that Jake's been struggling with injuries since, so we never really got the sequel to that race. I think Jakob worked on his weaknesses after this, and was on a whole new level this season. I think Jake and josh are great, but I do feel a little sorry for Jakob and hope that he gets to show what he is good for at Worlds next time around.

Josh Kerr if you can. Please ask him what diferences the good runners between the greats.; all worck so hard, but what diferences for example a 3:33 guy by 3:29 guy
@@Stevenc1984 yeah, not sure if goggins could get there in person, but even if they had him by skype or whatever, I think the running channel crew would have a unique style of interview with david and think of questions that other interviewers may not have. I've heard andy say a few things that are similar to goggins philosophy, I think they could find some common ground.. and maybe after andy finishes that marathon he and sarah could do an extremely hard ultra marathon.. I dunno I would enjoy watching all this lol.
@@alphonsoelm5652 Because he won so many golds but they were all short distance sprinting i think (not exactly sure) his total distance adds up to 1100m total for 8 golds. Would be awesome to hear about how he got ready for each olympics but agree he probably is off enjoying being a legend. We can dream though :)

That video of his father celebrating but as you say, being a consummate professional and still commentating the race was amazing. I'd love to see more middle distance content, I'm much more into long distance but I'd like to change that.
I know that Sarah always ribs Andy for not running a marathon, but running at this pace for 1,500 meters has got to be so tough physically and mentally!
My training program regularly schedules 6min assessments to track my progress, I swear sometimes those 6 minutes feel longer than a 7+ hour 50K! Pushing the limits on intensity is brutal!

Beth Potter would be great. I would ask her how she can improve her running times even when she added swim and bike training to her program. She is the new world champion in Triathlon and race favourite for the Olympic Gold in Paris. In 2021 she also broke the 5000m world record at a non-ratified event. Her time of 14.41 was set after she started triathlon.
As a mid-distance runner during my high school and university days I can totally relate to the feeling (of course on a much smaller scale). Next interview it has to be sir Mo, no?
I think luck was a bigger contribution for Kerr than for Wightman. I think both ran strategically excellent races and should get the credit for that. Kerr had a bit of help from some virus that put a brake on Jakob, but Wightman just outraced Jakob on the day.
@@thedolenorway Virus was an excuse..Doubling up 1500m and 5000m has been Jacobs problem..he beats anyone on any individual race day but in championships you have rounds and if you are running multiple events even more so ...so you have to conserve a little...Jacob hasn't got the best 800m times..so is always a chance 1500m specialists who good 800m speed are going to out kick him because of his need to slightly conserve..i get he wants to do what only Gerroujj has done before him but if he had ran the 1500m only he would have won both those races...Both Wightman and Kerr were both tactically brilliant on the day and had put the work in so they could take advantage of Jacobs slight weakness doubling up...Wightman leading the way apparently making changes to increase his own stamina....Jacob is a fantastic athlete but he is a miserable bitter little beggar when he loses showing little grace..hopefully as his career grow so will he as a person

Jakob's speed was definitely a main contribution to the outcome in the 2022 final, I don't think that was the full story this year. I don't entirely agree that he is the pretentious ass that a lot of people think he is either. He could be better at acknowledging other runners performance for sure. When asked he tends to present a self assessment of why he failed. I think his objectivity is interpreted as arrogance by most people. If doubling 1500m and 5000m was the issue the last event should be the one to suffer the most. I think the qualifying rounds are more likely to help rather than hinder Jakob. In theory it should be more of an issue for the sit and kickers who focused more on speed rather than capacity. Most likely the reality of it all is somewhere in the middle ground between what the fanboys and the haters believe. I guess I lean towards the fanboys and you lean towards the haters.
