I still remember thinking he was going to have force abilities since almost all the trailers had him with -the youngling slayer 9000- anakin’s lightsaber
They fucked him over man, and his character was a much better character than Rey’s(sucks for Rey’s actress, she didn’t deserve all of that hate, and the people who wrote the lines for her don’t deserve a job).
Yeeesss. Rian Johnson literally turned him into a buffoon and bad comedic relief. He literally had the best and most imaginative story as well, something we had never seen before in starwars lore. An indoctrinated stormtrooper who breaks from the mold when he experiences the horrors of war, then organises an escape along with a prisoner then crash landing on a planet where events lead him to the force.
Yea honestly they should just made john into a jedi and be one to be that hero everyone needs and help his fellow defectors rebel against the empire Like that sounds lot better then some rehashed female version of luke who has a very complicated family line.
Surprised you didn't talk about Sonic. A movie that broke the internet so much, that only two years later it's already being talked about in university arts and media classes as a historical example of audiences influencing change in a piece of media.
I still have the belief that Sonics shitty design was done on purpose for the trailer, and the movie was already made with the good model. I think it was a clever marketing strategy. Cause huge backlash to get everyones eyes on your movie, then save the day because you're such an amazing company who listens to your fanbase. I believe this because companies like Nintendo, Sega, etc. are super fuckin picky about their character designs. When they loan out a character, they nitpick everything. The size of his shoes, the shade of blue, the pupil shapes, etc. No way in hell will I believe they did that monstrosity on accident.
I also remember Jim Carry getting mad about them bringing Hesse in to do the reworked design with his reason being "They take away the artistic expression of the artist." (Not exactly what he said but I think close to it) and defended the first cursed draft. I do understand where Jim is coming from in most cases, but I would only agree with him if the film wasn't a sonic movie. When you are using an established character like Sonic, there is (un)fortunately certain expectations from fans (myself included) who will by default go see it regardless, so you are already walking on some eggshells. Also if you listen to Ben Scwartz's Performance as Sonic between the 2 trailers, he actually sounds waaay more into the role in the second trailer than in the first one. Guess that model change and delay brought up his confidence in the production.
@@cxx23 It wasn't. They had to quickly bring in a studio to redo Sonic, and the crunch they went through sunk the studio. A visual effects studio went bankrupt improving the movie. Their effort should not be downplayed by saying the whole thing was just a marketing scheme.

I hate how there were so many instances of people blaming the actors and actresses for terrible movies, as if they had control of the movie's overall quality. Not even the first time Star Wars fans bullied actors that had nothing to do with the quality of the film, like the actors who played Anakin and Jar Jar in Phantom Menace.
I'm reminded of the harassment incidents that Genshin Impact VAs have received over a character's writing being "cringe" or because a character isn't top 5 in viability (this was the case for Kokomi's initial release, where her original Chinese VA got harassed over something she had no control over).

The woke vs. anti-woke war will happen for a while but it really boils down to how well written, directed and acted the film is, Wonder Woman, Black Panther and Joker being good examples while Ghostbusters 2016, Ocean's 8, Captain marvel etc. being poorly made and marketed almost entirely on being girlboss.
Exactly. It's just culture war nonsense. Any honest person should judge a movie by its writing and such. If it's good, it's good. To some credit, at least Critical Drinker realizes this (with the exception of Midsommar but that's an exception not a ruleL
Wokeness is a symptom, not the disease. Wokeness is not at the core of what is wrong with Hollywood these days, but it is a sign of much larger problem.
I mean, Black Panther's world building wasn't very well written, but at least conceptually speaking, it was pretty cool and the main plot was up to stuff with most of the other Phase 3 Films. Infinity War did a good job to try and rectify a lot of those criticisms too, which was nice. The thing about art though (given that I am an artist) is that we can be pretty damn stubborn towards criticism.
The fears of shootings at the Joker movie were based entirely on fabricated stories about the Aurora, Illinois shooting during a screening of The Dark Knight. All the stuff about the shooter being inspired by the Joker and wanting to be the Joker were based on comments by some cop in New York who had no involvement with the case. The cops actually working on the case in the jurisdiction where the event actually happened contradicted this. The killer wanted to shoot a lot of people and just went into whichever movie theater he thought would have the most people. The media ignored all of the actual facts and kept reporting about the shooter who "had red hair like the Joker". (The Joker has green hair. "Journalists" today are absolute morons.)
tell me you aint spreading fake news without telling me you aint spreading fake news dude hair was green as grass where you get your info at you didnt see the mug shot? his face was literally on every news outlet when it happen lmao you can even google his mug shoot
They aren't morons, the just have an agenda. They want to make you believe in what they want you to believe, they don't like the truth. The modern media are all conglomerates, they have a truth they are selling you not the real truth.
Don’t forget that Captain Marvel was sandwiched between infinity war and endgame and was billed as a required viewing and that is why the film did so well.
Ok cmon that's a reach people arent that dumb... Maybe the really did go to see one movie to 'support the narative' and then it came crashing down back to reality...
I think one of the funniest things I saw leading up to the release of Ghostbusters was Buzzfeed constantly Tweeting out countless articles calling the new Ghostbusters the "female Ghostbusters" and then right before the release, Buzzfeed tweeted out an article titled "Stop calling the new Ghostbusters the 'Female Ghostbusters'!"
35:50 So let me get this straight - Netflix knew that Cuties would be a controversial mess, did everything in their power to make sure as few people would see it as possible...and yet at no point did they do the obvious move of just hitting the big red _DELETE_ button on it? By keeping it on their platform, they're still in some partial way supporting its existence, even if they made it incredibly hard to find without actively searching for it.
Because it is a political film with "a message". If they erase her then activists will get angry. This is what happens when you mix activism with storytelling. You don't get an intelligent thought provoking piece, but an unenjoyable piece of sickening waste with no value and a poorly thought shape which is far from intelligent. Same applies to most of these "controversial" films.
@@SergioLeonardoCornejo so taking down the movie is a double-edged sword. By taking down the movie down activist (possibly pedophiles) will get mad. By not taking it down other people who aren't activist will get mad. It's a situation where no one wins.
I think the issue stems from the fact that people are willing to lie to get attention. Both sides do this on such a regular basis that I don't know what or whom to trust anymore.
Yeah, a few years back I agreed with a TH-camr named synthetic man, now he’s more like the opposite of the same coin from the woke crowd. I don’t have a problem with politics, left or right, just as long as they don’t make it preachy and just make an interesting story out of it, without putting down any group of people.
i challenge you to show me far right agenda pushed in movies, series, games, etc in the last 5-10 years. now do the same for far left agenda and you'll see the forest instead of just the tree.
The thing is, recasting the Ghostbusters with women COULD have been a really good work around to the fact you're not going to find four guys who can recreate the chemistry of the original cast. But if you're going to do that, you've got to work out a whole new approach that builds on the original but takes it in an interesting new direction. And that takes a lot of work, work Hollyweird can't be arsed to do any more.
Personally yes it can work but they need to not have ego and also call out fans to not watch the film if they hate it because how would that work out for you?
Exactly. If they only hired people based on their writing skills they could have made any movie with women. They should stop focusing on identity politics and sexism and start writing good stories where these women fit perfectly.
Ghostbusters just goes to show that you should NEVER insult your potential audience before your movie releases. They should have let the controversy die down instead of literally pouring rocket fuel on the fire.
Same thing with Doom Annihilation I remember them tweeting "who needs a doom guy" (or something like that) with a picture of them of two the actresses flipping the bird. Not good a way winning over fans of a very beloved video game series.
The controversy will never die. it started back up again when Afterlife was released. "You guys loved that movie but not ours?! The lead is still female! What did they do that we didn't do better?!" When the Collector's Edition was released, featuring 1, 2, and Afterlife, but the 2016 movie was not mentioned, some said this is because they were including movies that were cannon to each other while others took this as a sign that the 2016 movie was disowned. The 2016 movie has become a scar on the Buster's reputation. it'll never heal because people won't let it. especially Paul Feig, who refuses to let it go. you're going to be hearing about the 2016 movie until the end of time.
@@superzilla784 Exactly. It's because if you respond to such criticism with even harsher rhetoric, it results in a dumpster fire that doesn't even gross well at the box office. This reputation will sour the franchise further because what happened negatively in the past with the franchise will forever be associated with said franchise.
I am a woman, and I literally hated all of the movies that they remade with all women. The writing is a joke in those movies, instead lets write new movies with new ideas and cast women. Lets get awesome writers who write us as REAL people, not stone cold women who show no emotion, or on the flip side, women who are super stupid and dopey and FuNnY. I also don't respect those actresses blaming the hate on cis white men. Almost everyone I know hated those movies, not because they were cast with women, because the writing was a JOKE. Ghostbusters probably wouldn't have recieved as much hate had the actresses not blamed half of the population.
I really appreciate how honest and even-handed you are with a subject like this. It's so easy for people on both sides of the political spectrum to just conveniently ignore or underplay what doesn't go along with their own narrative and agendas, but you tell completely it as it is, which seems so hard for people to do nowadays. It's pretty ridiculous how one movie, or any one piece of art, can cause so much controversy over the political climate it was released in. The sooner we are out of this mess, the better.
Gamer from Mars works out so much you think he sits there and studies politics? NO! he's too busy lifting AND YOU SHOULD TOO HERES A GOAL DRINK 8 CUPS OF WATER NOWWWW
To be fair The Joker controversy was nothing more than Mass Hysteria. I remember the whole situation where someone on Twitter lied about the Batman Dark Rises shooting, accused the shooter dressing up as Joker, and lied about the movie's antagonist being Joker. But in reality that lie was seriously debunked because of multiple reasons: 1. The shooter didn't dress up as Joker. 2. The cops knows that it isn't about Joker. 3. The movie's antagonist wasn't Joker, it was Bane. And 4. The shooter admitted in court that it wasn't about Joker whatsoever, he didn't care what movie was playing. So the Joker accusations during the theater shooting was a massive lie. It was so bad the news outlets continued the spread fearmongering mass hysteria about the upcoming Joker movie and when the truth came out they refused to admit they screwed up and swept it under the rug acting like they didn't say anything about the said movie in the first place.
I knew the 2016 Ghostbusters movie was hated on, but good grief none of the actresses deserved that much harassment even if they said stupid stuff. People seemed to just use it as an excuse to be horrible
Sure the movie was absolute dogshit but that's never an excuse to attack the people behind it, at the end of the day they're just actors doing their job, there are much worse people out there.
I’m glad someone talked about the 2016 Ghostbusters drama. I saw everything as it played out in real time and when I try to explain it to my friends who don’t follow movie news they don’t believe me. I don’t think that there are that many legitimate journalists anymore. They choose instead to push political agendas by twisting the facts to support their political narrative and refusing to report on many extremely important stories at all if the facts are so obvious that they can’t possibly be altered. What ever happened to just reporting the news? Simply reporting on the facts of a story as they happen to really be and letting viewers/readers know when a report is an opinion piece instead of insisting it is factual? It’s sad that we can no longer watch or read the news to be informed about important things going on as now all they do is push political propaganda.

This was super interesting. My main takeaway is just how much the world loves drama and that we should probably stop remaking things and come up with some original content/characters.
I dont think remaking things is a problem if you do it right, problem is when people make a remake they try to detract away from what made the original good and do something completely different, which is always gonna rile tons of people up
the problem is not the remakes. the problem is the remake to push SJW agenda. Ghostbusters 2016 is perfect example. the movie wasn't made with female cast cause 1 of the original actors died. it was made to push SJW agenda. look the marketing: "all-female cast". where was "all-male cast" for the original Ghostbusters? nowhere.

I think that the reason why folks disliked The Last Jedi so much is because it felt kinda like a slap in the face for original fans with how unlikable they made Luke in it. With how negatively Luke was portrayed in this version (which felt like a complete 180 from the character audiences knew at the end of ROTJ) it felt like the director Ryan Johnson only made him so unlikable just to try and direct the audience towards Rey instead. It felt like he was telling us “You better stop liking that old character. You need to like my new character instead.”
It's about creativity vs gross domestic product. More movies with a one million budget vs a few movies with 100 million dollar budget. Need new stories with more practical effects for people to get interested in going to the theatres again I think.
Tbh even i find it kinda scummy when people attack actors for bad characters. However actors really gotta cool it when insulting people. The character isnt them. Just go"aye man i did what i could. My job is to act."
I think that's the problem with both woke and anti-woke people -- some of them just take things way to seriously to heart and just cross the line. No matter how justified your goal and beliefs are NEVER ATTACK, THREATEN OR ABUSE PEOPLE. That's why while I do believe in some Gamegate causes I could never justify the harassment of Zoe Quinn, Anita Sarkhishan and Brianna Wu, even though they're terrible people, and I hold the same stance towards those trans people who sent death threats to J.K. Rowling even if she held anti-trans beliefs. The moment you cross that line you are in the wrong and should be treated with contempt.
@@ДмитроДорофеєв My comment was about how some people can't seem to differentiate between a character they hate and the character's actor. My gripe with the Ghostbusters franchise at this point is that Ghostbusters have been going strong in comic and video game form for years with both referencing each other. It would be easy to include either stories from them or just make a movie that follows that continuity. I'm a Ghostbusters fan and I'll like Ghostbusters in any form but I recognize that there's a difference in quality from movie to movie.
The guy malding about Parasite beating Joker is really dumb, both movies were pretty similar in terms of themes, direction etc. It could've gone to either one and it would've been fair.

A part 2 should happen. Films like Top Gun: Maverick, Lightyear, Live Action Little Mermaid and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could fit into that. Also, you should do a “shows that broke the internet”, with recent shows like The Terminal List or She Hulk being prime examples. Even the Mario Movie could fit into this (with Chris Pratt being cast as Mario and Peach and Luigi’s roles being change. Peach in general has been one of the most controversial parts of the film. You have people saying she went “woke” due to taking a more proactive stance and being a fighter, though some that called the movie “woke” took a 180 following the film’s release, deeming the film an “anti-woke” success, while you have others calling sexism due to the fact that she trained Mario and serves as his cheerleader. People also called Bowser wanting to marry Peach an “outdated and sexist trope”. See Tim Pool, Steven Crowder and Grace Randolph’s reviews of the film for these points). I reckon its cus this video was more on politics in movies rather than just backlash
No way in hell will I believe they did that monstrosity on accident.
lol sonic? That wasnt about woke vs not woke

These days if a movie comes out I just look up, see what it is, and be like, "Eh I probably will be called an ist or a phobe again, you know I am not going to the theater."

Man this video was a heavy hitter. It's like I've just been waiting for someone to basically recap all the bull and weird crap Disney and the entertainment industry as a whole has tried to pull for the last few years and it's just good to have it all in one place and be able to laugh at how ridiculous it all is. It's media like this that will help get us back to movies worth watching
Ghostbusters 2016 is perfect example. the movie wasn't made with female cast cause 1 of the original actors died. it was made to push SJW agenda. look the marketing: "all-female cast". where was "all-male cast" for the original Ghostbusters? nowhere.
But are you watching said original content though? Everyone says this yet so many good original or indie movies are not being seen by people saying this.
@@YourMazzter1 I've tried looking for good original movies. Believe me, I've tried. But there are none showing near me. imagine going out of your way to harass an actor bc they’re in a movie you didn’t like
Well she deserved it for being a SJW.
I kind of got that impression.
My response is 'screw that!'
It's about creativity vs gross domestic product. More movies with a one million budget vs a few movies with 100 million dollar budget. Need new stories with more practical effects for people to get interested in going to the theatres again I think.

Yeah, listen to stories from soap actresses from their headway. If a mean tweet makes you cry...
I suppose that kinda falls under what you're saying, but the distinction is that much of the harassment is specifically because of the character rather than what the actor/actress did - if that makes sense. In the video there was someone who commented "terrible character" on the actress's personal Instagram page... Just weird in my opinion
If there's anything I learned about these is:
A. Never overestimate/underestimate or insult your audience
B. Many of the overreaction towards these movies, especially those towards the actors/actresses are unwarranted
C. Both Woke and Anti-Woke sides are just as annoying as each other by this point
I especially agree with c. Sometimes people should just shut the fuck to and enjoy the movie

@@misseselise3864 well tbf sometimes the actor/actress doesn’t know the movie will flop
I wholeheartedly agree with A and B and partially agree with C. Both sides are annoying, but I find the anti-woke side to be the worse side, especially since I feel like it's almost impossible to make actual criticisms because actual criticisms of movies/shows/games get drowned out by anti-woke people (plus I feel like the anti-woke side is far more vocal)

@P C they're not exploiting the children if their parents agreed for them to be paid actresses on a movie set. They read the scripts they knew the treatment they talk to the director they audition for these roles. That's not exploitation
@@yo-sefakimbey7009 You can find a million different ways to convince a child to write a form and act, that doesn't instantly mean they consented in the sense they know what they're getting into. Edit: as a former anti-sjw, I fully believe that flinging around the wokeness narrative is just an excuse to be openly racist or sexist, I agree that the idea of changing something for the sake of "female empowerment" is an automatic failure (ie Charlie's angels) but there's a difference between doing something for the sake of legitimate diversity and then doing something because you believe that the world is so against the idea of X type of movie. Compare Wonder Woman with that Star Wars chick (I forgot her name ngl) there's a massive difference between having a female lead who does what she does and carries on vs a female lead who acts as if every man is against her.

Bowser’s song “Peaches” was also accused by some of being sexist and promoting harassment towards women.
