One of the biggest reasons why people hated Velma (at least the people I knew) was because HBO Max took down so much animated content such as Close Enough and Infinity Train to name a few. My reaction was "why would they remove so many good shows only to give us this garbage?"
To my knowledge: HBO was being forced to remove shows because Time Warner/Warner Bros couldn't afford to keep all the shows up so they had to remove shows to cut costs. It was just a financial & business decision. I don't think they would've left Velma up if it wasn't 1. New & 2. Doctor Who criticism wasn't all misogynists, though. There was a drop in writing quality that was quite noticeable. And not to mention Jodie Whittaker trashed the previous actors for being men. You won't get fans to like you if you talk badly of your predecessors. I thought her acting was good, but with bad writing and her speaking badly of those who came before her, I didn't watch her second season.
Yeah, I noticed that. Most of the comments weren’t just from men but from women as well, from what I noticed. Watching some of the episodes that Chibnall wrote, I think the signs were there. I could barely get through 42, the writing was terrible and the only redemption to the plot was David’s acting. I noticed that theme through Chib the Chub’s episodes, the writing is terrible but the actors save it. It makes them terrible compared to actually good episodes that send good messages like Gridlock or even the Family of Blood duo logy. Russell T Davies has proven that it is possible to send a message and write a good plot time and time again. Hell, I’d say Moffat has done just as great of a job with Empty Child when he tackled the idea of running from responsibility. Yet again: It is possible to send a message about a view and have a good story if your writing is good. Also: Chib the Chub had shown himself to be a creep while RTD seems to care a lot about his actors. Jodie Whittaker was a good doctor, I’ll say it, but she got the short end of the stick with the writing. Any other actor would have also gotten the same amount of criticism.
let's be completely honest, that show went way downhill as soon as steven moffat became showrunner during matt smith's run. he nepo babied his way into it and made it garbage, just like he did with sherlock. chris didn't make it much worse, just continued the mediocrity and screwed with the established canon same as moffat.
Retconning the 1st doctor from William Hartnell to the timeless children made me leave. And If Dr. Who fans reaction to Jodie is considered misogynist; shouldn’t Whittaker’s statements toward Dr. Who’s male fans be call misandrist?
I remember a few people, myself included, being excited for the show when only the character designs/art was released to the public… that quickly changed after episode 1 premiered 💀
Most of these controversies would have been avoided if there wasn't so much forced messaging and less garbage writing. The majority of the shows here crashed and burnt , eventually or immediately
Missed a few, Wheel of Time, Resident Evil and Rings of Power..... Oh wait, at this point if we have so many then we'd be here for hours! WE NEED A PART 2!
I’ve been sick and in half asleep state and I just thought I subconsciously clicked on a new video of his. Hearing him on this video was a pleasant surprise
There is a common thread with most of these stories. Writers and producers of a certain political ideology taking it upon themselves to change characters based solely on their own social or political preferences rather than the source material. The audiences of the source material speak out about it (some louder, and ruder than others) But all are swept under the same rug as racist or incels. Also the writers, producers, and even actors regularly antagonize their audiences, morally grandstand, and feign confusion when the show ultimately tanks. Keep it up Hollywood, you're doing great.
I believe this is largely why anime and manga are doing so well in the West today. Of course, there can be political undertones. But with Japanese media, they don't sacrifice the enjoyment of the media in question to force a political or social viewpoint. And even then, the creators or whomever is behind the media in question doesn't hurl insults when people don't like it. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is very heavy on the lesbianism (Tohru crushing hard on Kobayashi), but that's part of the enjoyment. FMA has themes such as bigotry and political tension, especially since it takes place shortly after a war, but it's considered one of the best forms of media ever. In the west, I've seen a lot of what I like to call the "Bigotry Fallacy". That being if people complain about something, the automatic response would be to assume those complaining are racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.
@@SaiyanGamer95 Precisely. And when the creators of said manga are actually involved in any western adaptations, they can turn out good. Like Netflix's One Piece.
If I were to make a Cleopatra film, I’d want to have Cleopatra be portrayed by a smokin’ hot Greek Egyptian actress. Also, the original Scooby Doo, What’s New Scooby Doo?, and Mystery Incorporated will be remembered while Velma will be forgotten.
I think they're doing an adaptation with Gal Gadot in the role. Say what you will about her and while she's not greek, but israeli, she seems to be a good fit the role.
as a lifelong doctor who fan I dont think i'll ever forgive chibnall for his writing and the timeless child, he was given reign of one of the longest running shows in tv history and almost managed to kill it
no he didn't, in fact quite the opposite: had it not been for him the show likely would've not been able to made due to COVID and we would've had to wait years for any new content but through him working incredibly hard he was able to get the show made.
@@TheAcorner1987 so you'd rather have no Doctor Who for literal years? Any fan who says that is genuinely baffling and also if that were to happen others would go without, is that fair? no.
@@friendlyotaku9525 so just to be clear, you'd rather have a TV show with a quick turnover and bad writing than a TV show that put time into writing a good script? I think we are done here lol
I really think it's insane how people dance around the subject of black actors being cast for non-black characters and anyone who speaks out against it is seen as racist. Feel like you were way too forgiving on how absurd some of these were like Cleopatra.
They don't really dance around it as much as they stand on a soapbox and scream *RACIST!!!* At even attempting to question why someone would want to see original black characters instead of a lazy virtue signalling re-skinning. I'm black and was literally called and Uncle Tom by a white dude who claimed I was a race trader. Simply because I thought race swaps were lazy pandering, and more original black characters, or existing black characters should be showcased. It's a one sided conversation. The writers and producers are all on board, and the very vocal leftist online community are there to back up every half baked, heavy handed, cheap pandering decision Hollywood can churn out.
If you ask me, that's even more racist as it implies that these people only see value in traditionally white characters, and think that simply giving that to a non-white person is enough when it's just sloppy seconds.
It depends on what character it is, historical figures like Cleopatra? Yea, shouldn't be cast as black because she was a white woman. Ariel? Thats a fictional character in only the live action remake, so its alright
The problem with the dialogue on a lot of these shows is that it “sounds woke.” Is Batwoman awesome? Cool, show me. Are there parts where being a woman is harder? Cool, show me. “Show, don’t tell,” is day one writing stuff. Whether it’s Titans or Batwoman or even Lily Singh, just show us. Telling us only causes problems.
@@WobblesandBean Strictly speaking, an engineer isn't necessarily a scientist. A scientist methodically and repeatedly tests hypotheses to come to a more accurate understanding of the observable world. An engineer takes existing scientific models and applies them to systems to perform a specific function. The scientist asks, "What is (observably) true?" where the engineer asks, "What works?" While engineering is perfectly respectable in its own right, Bill Nye frequently presents himself as having scientific expertise and authority that he does not have. "Bill Nye Saves the World" is one egregious example. Another is his appearance in a Veritasium video where he weighs in on a controversial physics debate with smug certitude, only to be proven wrong by the end of the experiment. (To clarify, I am not criticizing him being wrong, since the very purpose of the scientific method is to test and weed out incorrect hypotheses. Rather, I am criticizing his appeal to his own ethos, which he greatly overestimates, and his general smug demeanor.) th-cam.com/video/yCsgoLc_fzI/w-d-xo.html As an aside, both Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson also frequently exhibit piss-poor epistemology, as well as generally poor comprehension of philosophy and metaphysics. That's very worrisome, as the scientific method itself hinges upon critical philosophic and epistemological preconceptions. Ironically, Bill Nye is more of a dogmatist than he is a scientist.
@@NickyBlue99he’s probably around the same age as my dad, who is also an engineer. There were not many, if any computer programs to do all the calculations for you when he was in college. Netflix seems to think they're tapping in to the True Detective audience with their Monster series, but True Detective is fictional! The victims in True Detective never existed in real life! I can understand why the family of victims depicted on the show might disapprove.
The issue is: - Making a show when you don't even care about it to the point where you push ot the main actor. - Absolutely obliterating characters for the sake of inserting your personal opinion instead of just... making your own show. - Being uncomfortable or straight up inappropriate despite being a show push as being for children.
Power Rangers is now in hot water lately after Simon Bennett's offensive tweet. After the reveal of the 30th anniversary season, it seems HasBro pretty much didn't care of the IP and would likely die out of its misery. The franchise itself was created under the strictest of budgets, and being non-union for 3 decades, most of the actors/actresses only attend at conventiona as their cheapest excuse for not reprising their roles.
The design itself is alright (unlike Velma herself as a character), though one I've always found annoying about the colors is her sweater. It's like they just took the colors from a stock image of the original Velma and called it day. Had they made it a darker shade of orange, I think it would've meshed better with Mindy's skin.
I'm so fed up with every show, and movie, and general media being about gender, politics , race, sexuality, etc. I miss when a show was judged for its technical qualities and not for how much it alligns with the spectator personal beliefs. At the same time I hate how companies invented a new type of industry that profits of enraging consumers. It's amazing how they give this mainstream properties to talentless hacks that prioritize the insertion of their idiotic agendas instead of focusing in good filmmaking and storytelling, bc they know it will enrage the clowns and man-babies from the other side, making their pathetic rantsa form of free publicity, headlines and videos.
I have nothing against changing gender or race, as long as it makes sense in the context of story and is well written, The problem is that whenever they do this, they make a point of making the character extremely obnoxious and self aware of this change.
sometimes there's still racism on the lefts side. It's like they race swap and they're like, "look at us being inclusive." but that turns into using the POS into some sort of a token character
I have a huge problem with it. If you are making a movie/film that's historical then NO you absolutely can't swap. Even for well established fiction characters... there's no good reason to race swap EXCEPT FOR the absurdity of "inclusivity". If you want to be inclusive then write particular characters for particular groups in that particular race. There's nothing that makes sense about changing a long established characters race... how does it make sense that say Rapunzel is race swaped to Hispanic... how would that make sense? It doesn't and would only be done to appease certain political groups. Why in the world would ppl not create whole new stories and characters who accurately represent certain ethnic groups & thier particular culture? Why take a white story and switch only the race... the story is now completely different and nonsensical. A NEW STORY could truly open a whole new world to viewers... it could inspire ppl to learn more about certain cultures and peoples. Instead of taking old stories and race swapping we should be making NEW STORIES!
While I appreciate you trying to take a neutral stance, there are details that you leave out, particularly with Gina Carano. Again I know you're trying to be neutral, but sometimes you don't appear as such. First of all, Gina Carano's opinions were pretty mild. There are many, many, many Hollywood stars who go on social media and spout very left-wing opinions that insult half the country, but they don't get in trouble! And of course, MANY of them made Holocaust comparisons and didn't get in trouble. They just came at it from the left, so they were just fine. Gina Carano was saying that the Holocaust started by trying to turn neighbors against one another, and she was seeing the same thing happening here, fearing that it could indeed lead to something terrible. I don't disagree. Also, her new films were not "made by Ben Shapiro." They were produced by the Daily Wire. Ben Shapiro is part of that company but he's not the one making movies as far as I'm aware.
Only cause the creator is there. If the creator wasn’t their then it be like the cowboy bebop live action which sucked ass. However not sure if Netflix will continue this trend just cause they did one correct
Not really. It was the best adaptation of all, but only because others were even worse. It's still misses a lot from its original source, acting is bad, team dynamics is bad, lots of characters changed too much(evil Garp(and Garp-related spoilers overall), too serious and smart Luffy, Zoro who just one of the main sources of the bad and unfaithful acting, 40 year old emotionless Nami, USOPP WITH SHORT NOSE!1!1!1!!!!1!! Sanji doesn't smoke), fights are way less creative (ESPECIALLY the Arlong Park. is just a shame, no underwater fight for Sanji, no ACTUAL LUFFY'S LOSE TO ARLONG, no Octopus man(they probably just don't have money, probably Usopp's nose is too hard for them to make in every scene)) And yeah, Zoro and Sanji fighting together. Thing that happened only once in anime in half-filler arc and they promised to never do this again... Here they just fight together like nothing happened. No Don Krieg, even though they showed starving Gin. Everything feels so forced and unnatural(Usopp and Kaya scene, Nami and Kaya scene, first Sanji appearance scene). I won't even talk about Nami's sister with different skin color, I'm just surprised it took 7 episodes for them to make it. It's probably fine for those who know nothing about the anime itself, but for true fans it's just blasphemy. But still the best netflix adaptation so far.
Interesting video. I kind of agree with both sides, but both are usually fighting over nothing. This is the epitome of first world problems. Most woke shows are terrible, but that’s due to virtual signalling and bad writing. I do feel like there seems to be an overcorrection to representation in media, but certain types of people will hate shows just because of who is in them and that goes both ways. I don’t care about the backgrounds of characters as long as they are well written and interesting and I’m a mixed race guy( I feel like we don’t get tons of main characters representation) it’s a tiring war, but sure interesting to watch. Both sides need to stop generalising the other side and meet in the middle, but I doubt that’ll happen. Oh yeah and Velma is abhorrent, it’s amazing how it United all of us to hate it.
Hey, so actually there are 14 actors for the doctor. Through some weird circumstances David Tennant was actually the 10th and the 11th doctor. (Although, if you're counting him, John Hurt was canonically the doctor while the show was off the air and in a few timeline overlap episodes)
I guess but if we count Hurt we may as well count many other doctors who had continuities separate from the show. I prefer to (and many sources prefer to) discount Hurt as we never follow him as the protagonist doctor in-show.

The virtue signalling, terrible writing and shaming of men most of these shows have is what breaks them. It's baffling that Hollywood doesnt realise this or are likely just too lazy and want a quick money grab. They don't need to make male characters stupid in order to elevate female characters. A good character is a good character, if people complain about said character(s) conduct and how their actions and motivations make no sense, that's on the writers ... Are there racists and sexist people who hate on shows / films just because of their stupid prejuduces? Yes. However, the grand majority of would be fans don't care about those petty things. If the show / film is competently written and has loveable / hateable characters with reasonable motivations for their actions, people will WATCH and become fans if they're not fans of the source material already. But the studios, writers and some actors opt to forgoe accountability and admit their incompetence to instead blame the fans for their own short comings. If they really want a show / film that pushes their own agenda, its simple enough to create an entirely new IP where these themes would work and make sense. Instead, they poach the names of beloved and established stories to then change, riding off the name of the original works. That combined with the above is a clear recipe for disaster and has been proven to be time and time again ... these studios are either clueless, greedy or both.
I hate to say it, but I agree with Rose. What she said sounds like Hollywood shenanigans. I'm sure she was paid good, she got the bag. Why walk away? One of the biggest reasons why people hated Velma (at least the people I knew) was because HBO Max took down so much animated content such as Close Enough and Infinity Train to name a few. My reaction was "why would they remove so many good shows only to give us this garbage?"
To my knowledge: HBO was being forced to remove shows because Time Warner/Warner Bros couldn't afford to keep all the shows up so they had to remove shows to cut costs. It was just a financial & business decision. I don't think they would've left Velma up if it wasn't 1. New & 2. Most likely still under contract for a new season or finishing up the season because then they'd have to deal with legal matters for breaching contract

Not even disney talks badly to older movies bc they want to milk them more than their worth in the sequel
Yeah I felt like it was more to do with Chris Chibnalls poor scripts than Jodies acting
Retconning the 1st doctor from William Hartnell to the timeless children made me leave. And If Dr. Who fans reaction to Jodie is considered misogynist; shouldn’t Whittaker’s statements toward Dr. Who’s male fans be call misandrist?
I think Velma will always be one of the most hated shows for the internet. I remember when the show first came out, nobody liked it.
And we need to be sure we don't watch the 2nd season
I remember a few people, myself included, being excited for the show when only the character designs/art was released to the public… that quickly changed after episode 1 premiered 💀

Hense why this writers and actors strike has no support from the public on either side.
There reap what they sowed.
And yet some idiots try to say it's not a big deal when it happens. I'd say all these failed shows disprove that
"certain political ideology" Go ahead and say it bro, you don't look neutral at all
I believe this is largely why anime and manga are doing so well in the West today.
@@SaiyanGamer95
Precisely. And when the creators of said manga are actually involved in any western adaptations, they can turn out good. Like Netflix's One Piece.

Fun fact: Bill Nye isn't an actual scientist... he's an engineer.
Yes, engineering isn't scientific at all, you don't need to have a working knowledge of physics or anything.
@@WobblesandBeanNope... you don't.
@@WobblesandBean Strictly speaking, an engineer isn't necessarily a scientist. A scientist methodically and repeatedly tests hypotheses to come to a more accurate understanding of the observable world. An engineer takes existing scientific models and applies them to systems to perform a specific function. The scientist asks, "What is (observably) true?" where the engineer asks, "What works?"
While engineering is perfectly respectable in its own right, Bill Nye frequently presents himself as having scientific expertise and authority that he does not have. Rather, I am criticizing his appeal to his own ethos, which he greatly overestimates, and his general smug demeanor.)
th-cam.com/video/yCsgoLc_fzI/w-d-xo.html
As an aside, both Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson also frequently exhibit piss-poor epistemology, as well as generally poor comprehension of philosophy and metaphysics.
Power Rangers is now in hot water lately after Simon Bennett's offensive tweet. After the reveal of the 30th anniversary season, it seems HasBro pretty much didn't care of the IP and would likely die out of its misery. The design itself is alright (unlike Velma herself as a character), though one I've always found annoying about the colors is her sweater. It's like they just took the colors from a stock image of the original Velma and called it day. Had they made it a darker shade of orange, I think it would've meshed better with Mindy's skin.
Most of the controversies is amcaused by politics and messaging these days

Exactly, it's always because of some progressive garbage reason not because of some great vision
sometimes there's still racism on the lefts side.
Exactly it’s the virtue signalling that makes it annoying

yes, by the looks

Hey, so actually there are 14 actors for the doctor. Through some weird circumstances David Tennant was actually the 10th and the 11th doctor. (Although, if you're counting him, John Hurt was canonically the doctor while the show was off the air and in a few timeline overlap episodes)
Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Baker, Davison, Baker, McCoy, McGann, Hurt, Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker, Gatwa. That's 15

I'm seeing a lot of comments about Doctor Who, and the Doctor Who chapter title, but no Doctor Who content in the video. Did it get removed in the 2 weeks since the videos release?

55:00 it's not debated at all lol. Cleopatra came from one of the most inbred families. She was 102 percent Macedonian with a 2 percent margin for error.
Educated guess, another Harvey situation along with abuse on set.
I'd bet she's no perfect person either though. Seems like she's a couple words that would get me censored
I hope theres a sequel: music that broke the internet and hollywood stories that broke the internet.
It's weird how whenever a show gets criticisms, it's always only from The Bad People™
26:18 I like how advocating for secure elections is looked down upon 😵💫
Sad but true.
If she tweeted it in 2016 instead of 2020 there would be a very different outcome.
Funny it wasn't an issue BEFORE when Trump won only AFTER he lost lol
Ironically, now, that ice cream segment would be the Vanilla being arrested and tortured due to being Vanilla.
I grew up with Bill and when I saw these? I just shook my head, Bill should have kept it scientific.
Is kinda crazy that calling for electoral reform, a thing both sides of the political spectrum demanded in the last two elections and is so much needed, can be deemed "controversial" and a petal to be pulled on the career of a person.
I just laugh at every "this did nothing to quell the outrage" after a stupid explanation or apology
Im ok with the writers strike to never end.
TLC has shows that belong in GTA.
Can we just be honest about how a lot of the “MILFs” were actually butt ugly???
Intragalactic, not inter. Star Wars characters rarely, and I mean vanishingly rarely, leave their galaxy.
