    I'm a 60 yr old brit, living in Italy since '90. Every new single release gets talked about on the national news. The other day I thought "grief, they're being milked - on tour, new singles often released etc" but then remembered that the bands in the 70s were working at the same pace. 2 albums a year, promotional tours etc. Phew. Seeing them in interviews, they are eloquent and sensitive about many social issues. Just hope that they don't burn out.

    I really appreciate Justin's honesty here. It's easy to dismiss Damiano as just another good-looking pop/rockstar with a good voice, but actually there's some depth to him, I mean as a human being and as an artist. I watched that really long Allison Hagendorf interview with him, expecting to only want to listen to the first 5-10 minutes of it, then I ended up effortlessly watching the whole thing - and it's an hour long! But Damiano was that fascinating as a person, just came across as an "old soul" in a really young body, if that makes sense, and his insights into how he creates his music were so, so interesting.

    First of all mr Hawkins, I salute a true artist!
    In my opinion they grew up listening to the best of the musical genre that influenced them so positively. The bassist and guitarist, founders of the band, started studying guitar together around twelve and thirteen years old, the singer (with a congenital malformation of his vocal cords), began studying singing at seven.
    PS speaking of arpeggio, Spanish masters of classical guitar have influenced everywhere.

    I am grateful for Thomas Raggi’s taste and that Damiano found him (and Victoria). It would have been dreadful if that voice was packaged into some soulless digital era music that is just so outside of my own tastes I wouldn’t be able to listen to that. At 22 (?) Thomas is doing some very interesting things. He is the one I am looking at right now in this group, although again this is more a matter of personal taste for a guitar playing that doesn’t need to show off cold technicalities but is instinctively chasing a feeling or emotion. I don’t know if I explained it, just an opinion from one of their Italian older fans (who didn’t even watch or care about Eurovision).

    When Måneskin were in their Zitti E Buoni period there was a clear glam look and feel to that band. This year, though, they have transitioned towards a wider rock sound, incorporating alt rock elements and discarding glam fashion. That is probably a wise long-term move because, after all, Bowie did that in the '70s (only being glam for a few brief years) and GNR did that in the '90s. As well as their increased musical sophistication Måneskin's song lyrics have matured over time, and I think this trend will likely continue as Måneskin grows.

    True story: Italy mostly doesn't get rock, historically or temperamentally. It makes life suck here for an old rocker like me. I saw their audition on X-Factor with my husband and sat straight up in bed. I said, "Mark my words, starting today, Italy is going to learn to rock it out." He said: "Nah. We Italians require music to be beautiful and lyrical, while this is just noise." Then they came in second. Then they won San Remo. Then they won Eurovision. Then they played with the Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop... And because of that, at least some Italians have learned to rock it out. And you better believe I rub his face in it every day.

    • @arjay9745
      @arjay9745 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@walter_the_danger First of all, prog rock is nice, but it doesn't 'rock' and even in Italy, those bands are niche at best. I know exactly what I'm talking about--I mean, I live here, am a fanatical collector of music, go to record shows, talk about virtually nothing else. The fact is, though Italy has produced some decent rock bands from PFM to Lacuna Coil, the national mood just doesn't favour them and they have to work three times as hard for a quarter the audience they would get in any other country--or, like Lacuna Coil, settle for an entirely foreign audience. Go to an average record show in Italy and chat someone up: "Ever heard of Lacuna Coil?" "Nope." It took decades for anyone to bother issuing the first Gaznevada album on anything other than cassette tape. The rock genres of the '90s and '00s are represented by a handful of bands at best, and the ones that are actually interesting and not just carbon copies of foreign influences, like 24Grana and Almamegretta, sing in Neapolitan (!), not Italian. Anywhere else I travel in the West, I immediately find people that share my rock love. Here, I have to dig, go to concerts alone, and tolerate the sad comments of the people around me about how Vasco Rossi is somehow a 'rocker'. Pathetic. Blah. THAT is what I'm talking about. Maneskin has somewhat broken the mould.

      @walter_the_danger 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@arjay9745 You're a full-blown clown if you think I'm going to fall for that wall of nonsense you just wrote. Italy is full of communities who love rock music, if you're struggling to find people who share your love you either don't wtf you're talking about or you've never actually tried. Going back to prog rock bands, whether they are niche or not is totally irrelevant. Those bands exist and make great music, period. Your point about Italy not getting rock music historically is null and void.

      @@davidedoria499 , the only stupid one here is you, mate. I never said that they're a new Queen. I would never write something so extreme if i hadn't seen them perform live. They will never be as good, Damiano may never be able to match Freddie's vocals, but their energy on stage and especially his when singing is very reminiscent of him, because he shares many similarities to him. Well, I just saw them in Sydney where they absolutely blew the roof off. They’ve been getting rave live reviews throughout their tour, and they are headlining at least three of the largest rock festivals in Europe in 2024, so underestimate them at your peril 😜 I believe the band would be the first to acknowledge they stand on the shoulders of giants, but I think they already have a rock-solid sound of their own. I’m quietly starting to suspect that in ten years, people will be accusing new bands of imitating Måneskin…

    The charm of Maneskin is that they are imperfect. A visible number of people worldwide embrace this because much of the music industry and its 'superstars' have become manipulative and strategically perfect to the core. For many people, it is like being in this type of manipulative and calculative environment all day, and here they meet simple people who are less of that but are more vulnerable and human. The guys who are in the band Maneskin have a sense of charm, by nature in their own environments when nobody sees or knows them. As long as they don't become manipulative, strategically aiming at domination with every word and move like much of the 'entertainment industry' and their 'superstars', and as long as that charme has a tone in their music still, people will embrace it and go and listen. -

    So endearing to see a voiceless Justin 🧡 Personally, I'm always baffled by people who automatically assume a song is always about the lead singer. In the case of Måneskin, I've seen this happen so many times before and realise lots of people are just projecting what they think Damiano must be like (young stud, pretty to look at, loves to have sex, get high and party 24/7). They'll listen to "For your love" and go: "Ooh, naughty Damiano" (when the song is actually about a toxic obsession and not necessarily Damiano's POV). Or they'll listen to "The Driver" and assume it's about Damiano wanting to get high, but it turns out he doesn't actually do drugs. So, yeah - why do so many TH-cam reactors think songs are all about the lead singer? Are they that basic?
