I know I’m late to the comments, but I think art of survival and the kindom is bush’s best work. I find myself only enjoying the 90’s or early 2000’s singles with bush albums. But those two albums are enjoyable and is 10/10 for me.

The advantage of Bush not being super popular in the U.K. was that it was posable (even at their peak) to watch them in small venues in London. Such amazing times. Like many bands with charismatic lead men the real talent lay in the background with Nigel Pulsford. His amazing guitar riffs (less is more) defined their sound and gave Gavin a platform for his songs to shine. Heady days indeed.

Man, Bush was integral to my 90s MTV immersion. Literally half their debut was hit singles and the next two albums got darker and more soundtrack-y. Grabbing a late night snack with Loder and Pinfield and watching Bush, Garbage, Better Than Ezra, Oasis, Superdrag, et al was my jam, if you'll forgive the obvious pun.

There’s something ethereal feeling about using the 9th. Especially when using chord progressions that are one off from the parallel minor like C to Em. It’s in one of the modes between major and minor. A ton of post grunge bands wrote music this way to breathe some life back into power chords. Ask Rick Beato. He could tell us what’s happening musically

I have a massive sense of nostalgia for 90s grunge and some other stuff from then. I think because I was too young to properly appreciate it back then. But now I really appreciate it. The sadness of a lot of it really resonates with my own personality. Kurt Cobain for example, I recognise a lot of his issues in myself. I remember my brother getting me the Pearl Jam Ten album as a really young teen or tween and that really brings back this of nostalgia, and Smashing Pumpkins. Drinking my first taste of alcohol with those cream soda alcopops you could get on Christmas Day listening to all those kinds of albums. I was really fixated on certain albums. Then I graduated to heavy metal and whenever my bro was listening to something cool, I'd sneak in when he wasn't there and borrow it 😂. NIN, Metallica, Mega Death, Iron Maiden, Marilyn Manson, Skid Row. G n' R. All my college bus listens. MM when he first came out sounded amazing. NIN the favourite for ages. I discovered the Holy Bible album by the Manics and couldn't believe that was by them. I became fixated on that for ages . Richie really brought something so different to them as a band, that was lost when he disappeared. I discovered Jeff Buckley Grace album when I had a Christmas stint working in a record shop and put it on, fell in love with it forever since. Always makes me cry. Even my brother went and bought after I played it to death. Anyway, rambling.....

Bush are one of my all time favourite bands since the 90's, haven't really gotten into their newer stuff, i think the magic of the original line up has been lost somewhat even though the newer members are incredible musicians, i still reckon gavin rossdales voice and his unamericanised English singing accent, with nigel pulsfords unusual lead guitar work, robin goodridge's drumming and dave parsons bass playing just made their music special, their first 3 albums are pure gold and well worth a listen, sixteen stone, razorblade suitcase (produced by steve albini), & the science of things, and on the "grunge chords", all chords are beautiful and usable once used in an interesting way.

It took me until about 2010 to start enjoying their music. I had a hard time getting into mainstream music . I felt as if it was a sell out. There were many many bands that fell into this category. I have grown a bit in the last 12/13 years & accept alot more music💕

I loved Bush in the '90s. They love the Sus2 voicing. I saw them at least 4 times, 1 more than Depeche Mode. I once tried an open sus2 tuning, which was great. You should try it, Justin. Know Thyself: Oracle at Delphi.

I've never been a fan of Bush while they were popular.... But I really like what I hear, here. Nice of Justin to point out what's particularly nice about the guitar chords on this song.

You should check out the rooftop version of "Letting the Cables Sleep" - it's fantastic
I think Bush were seen as a "wannabe" grunge band trying to ride on the coattails of Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden etc - I don't think they were as innovative as those bands - but they produced some competent rock and a few really great songs - you should check out some of their other stuff
Btw - Ride is one of my all-time favorite groups

My brother introduced me to them when I was pre-teen and I was hooked had their poster up on my wall for years too. Also, if you notice they still blast “machine head” at major football stadiums.

I recognized the thumbnail by the tattoos. I saw Bush and Live at an outdoor festival a few years ago. Gavin readily jumped in the crowd, and was a good showman. Never really got in to the music over the years, but there’s talent there for sure

Thank you for explaining Bush's sound. They are uniquely identifiable but not being musically trained, I couldn't put my finger on what it was. Enlightening. My favourite Bush song is Headful of Ghosts. Would love to hear your opinion on that.

I always feel the chord style from the 90s gives a bit of a pensive tone, it can add a sort of melancholy feel to a note that would normally feel uplifting and happy.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, take me back to the 90’s and leave me there! Though don’t put me in that de-aging machine. I don’t fancy going through primary school all over again! 😅
This whole song was reminding me of Everlong. Definitely nice to hear those chord voicings coming back. It’s all nostalgic.🥹 I have a sudden urge to have a glass of Sunny D & eat Lunchables while playing with Pogs & trying to keep a Tamagotchi alive 😅😂😂

They never took off in Australia. Our own grunge/alt rock/stoner rock/punk scene had been flourishing for as long as Seattle’s and its grip remained strong into the early 2000s. Glycerine (which I called Listerine) was a hit that got some airplay, but it did reek of corporate rock to me. Mind you, I called Pearl Jam “cabaret grunge” in 1991 and have since learned to keep my more controversial musical opinions to myself.
