When the movie first came out I didn't realise just how big this really was. I mean the movie itself, actors, music... After all these years I still become overwhelmed, so many key points, timeless music and of course Lisa Gerard... I just couldn't imagine anyone better then her for her breathtaking vocalisations of some of the most heartbreaking moments in the movie.
I dont understand why 127 people didnt like this film. I agree with everyone else in how fantastic this film STILL is! Every time I watch it, Im moved...and Ive been on the production side of work at Universal Studios in North Hollywood! I will probably see this film atleast 100 more times and be captivated every single time! I wish I wouldve been on this crew! Epic indeed!
As a kid I never liked the movie because Maximus dies. The more I grew the more I appreciated the movie for everything around that and in the end exactly for him to die like that, for that.
Richard Harris must have been such an inspiring actor to work with, as he himself is in complete command of his craft His voice and his eyes are so filled with the joy and passion for acting
I bet that was an amazing moment for all involved on this movie to watch up on the big screen for first time seeing what they produced all contributed to ,bet they felt so amazingly proud ✌️❤️
Well done video It sheds light on those behind the scene that make viewers believe what they see. Imagine how much work is needed to re-enact a scene if the first take is not good: the costumes need to be cleaned, the makeup has to be done all over for every actor etc, and to cook and clean and tidy the places where all these actors and their supporting staff. It’s phenomenal not only in acting but also in all of what goes into the acting to look real. I think everyone deserves credit equally.
I do agree that Joaquin Phoenix did deserve an Oscar, so did Rusty Crowe. But there can only be one winner. I thought this was an Awesome performance by the whole cast and what a hell of a cast...Whoa!
It's a beautiful movie and I loved it. I still do for it got me into studying Roman history even harder. The music by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerard moved me like no other thing did until then. I was entertained and actually saw something I hadn't seen before. Cheers!
I believe that every kids dream is being a Gladiator. This film is definedly one of the top and favorites movie ever. The actors, locations and outfits is the one I love the most. Russell Crowe is amazing. This is a 5 Star all the way. I love this movie.

Who mixed the audio for this thing? The voice tracks are buried in the music. This movie deserves a BTS promo with a soundtrack put together with care.
there's usually always a moment in this type of period epic where someone looks a tiny bit cheesy in their costume... not a moment here that is not flawless Russell Crowes fighting costume is relatively simple but so perfect, and unbelievably hot
not just his looks..Russell's voice ..who can carry off his speech shouting over the war sounds "what we do in life.." trained actors certainly, but he has an unusual timbre to his voice many trained actors would sound ridiculous or just fade out when you have a lot of background noise
i cannot believe they put together those fight scenes , the chariot racing , tigers... starting out with only 21 pages and they just kept improvising alongwith different writers writing different versions of the story and just culling whatever they liked from everything
Not many films can perfect so much & many elements to such heights. The music especially is a tour de force, but the sets & locations are utterly sublime, as are the performances. It just goes to show how many people LOVE ROME because it is as close to working as a world population that we ever got. The Greatest Empire that ever existed. While he doesn't look ANYTHING like the surviving images (statues) of Marcus Aurelius, I would have hated to have seen anyone other than Richard Harris in that role!

He died before his last scene. Originally, his character was supposed to bury his wooden sword in the Coliseum at the end of the movie. Instead, they had to make his character die by using a double, and using digitalized cutouts of him from other scenes.
