This week at our remote Irish stone cottage renovation, the derelict barn gets a new floor! Now it's a bit of a bodge job, but hopefully it will see us through whilst we make room for the big projects coming up.
Restoring a stone house isn't easy, and I needed a quick, budget friendly way of getting a new floor in the old derelict stone barn.
With Emily not here, I find myself working alone on this DIY project. Building a workshop will help massively as we move forward on our little off grid Irish homestead!

I would love to hear some stores as you are working like how you became interested in building things and what were you like as little girls Lego or dolls etc. I would play for hours with Lego dolls were boring I thought.

I was going to say the same thing. As long as it's dry in that space (fix any holes in the roof), that floor should last ages. If you change the orientation of the door so it opens outwards, there's even a chance of placing a ramp up to the "temp" floor so you could wheel things up or down in to the shed. ❤❤❤❤

Great Vlog. I was always told growing up that if the cows are laying it is going to rain. My hubby the Irishman said it's Ireland they just lay down. Has nothing to do with rain. So when Lou said it was going to rain the cows are laying down, I said see I am right. Hubby said she was taken the piss. Lol either way I think Lou agrees if they lay down it will rain 😂
The cows lie down when it's going to rain over here in the US also. Not a myth.
Louise, when you sharpened the pencil with a Stanley knife, it took me right back to being young, and my dad, who was a joiner, doing the same . Happy memories of watching him work .
I was the only child in primary school with a jagged sharpened pencil 😂.

Good job Louise! Its like you were born a carpenter! I am building a shed for my garden tools and so far i have a sore thumb, a cut in my pinkie and the shingles are not so very pretty and not so very straight on the roof. But its mine, and i did it. I will never attempt anything like it again. Therefore i appreciate your skills even more. You rock!

At our Lions charity shop we use an old upright freezer with the glass shelves replaced with wood as a tool / parts storage. It lives outside and works really well. We even have had a couple of people want one making.

As I'm currently sitting in the desert, with over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, I find myself somewhat envious of your cooler temperatures! Great things happening with a new proper workshop. My temporary workshop floor was not perfectly flat, no dpc or varnished & I’ve just replaced it 8 yrs later…. I reckon yours will definitely be reet for a good 15yrs +. Love a good recycle, you did a fantastic job & it is going to make work life so much better.
