  • Note: around 3:50 I referred to a 42 tooth chainring, when I meant 34 tooth.
    Two weeks ago, I bought this brand new 2022 Trek Domane AL 3 road bike. Other than a couple of rainy days, I have been riding this bike daily since I got it. I thought that I'd go into a bit of a deeper dive, now that I've had a chance to get to know the bike. I'm going to share a candid review and impressions of the bike, what I like and dislike (spoiler: nothing).
    The Domane AL 3 has a lovely sapphire blue and dark grey aluminum frame with a carbon fiber fork and an alloy seat post. It's running 700 by 21mm Bontrager Paradigm wheels with 700 by 32mm Bontrager R1 Hard-Case Lite tires. The drive train is Shimano Sora throughout with a 50/34 compact crankset, an 11-34 tooth cassette, and combination shifters. The handlebar is a 42 cm wide Bontrager compact unit with ovalized flats. The saddle is a Bontrager Verse with a relief channel. The bike weighs 22.71 pounds without pedals.
    I am very pleased with this bike. It is a genuine joy to ride.

    Great video. I have a 2021 Domane AL2 Disc and love it. It's my first road bike and my first Trek. The bike is super comfortable. Love riding it.

    Sora is very good groupset, it's still running strong on my old road Trek 1.2 from 2009....

    I've got the 2019 version, but it's the WSD model. I really liked the Pacific Blue colour, and it was my size, and in good condition for a second hand bike. The geometry of the Domane range is spot on for those of us who need a comfortable ride.

      I really enjoy riding this bike, as the size and geometry do not impact my back. And as you say, the color set is great.

    I have the same bike with grey and green color. For me I don't like the tires, I upgraded it to 28mm continental GP 5000 it became a little bit lighter and increased my average speed. Great review btw.

      Congrats on the bike, and thank you! When these tires wear out I'm definitely going for pure road tires.

    Thanks for the review and impressions. I want a bike for fitness, bought an mtb (x-cal 8) last month thinking i can use it for little trails and more on road biking. BUT trails were close down/not maintained or too far from my area (i live city center).I'm planning to switch this month good bye x-cal so soon 😢

      Gearing can also make non-road bikes a little tougher to use on road, as far as effort and comfort go. Good luck!

    Glad you are enjoying the new bike. As this bike has a front derailleur would you have preferred a 1X instead. I’m a huge fan of the 1X style regardless of bike type. Cheers

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I prefer a 1x on my mountain bikes with a 30 to 34 chain ring, since there are lots of short steep climbs on my local trails. I prefer 2x on road bikes with the small ring for climbs and the big one for cruising and descents. I'm actually rebuilding a vintage Bianchi with a 3x, with a 22 tooth small ring. That's because the 28 tooth low gear on the freewheel would be death on climbs. :)

    Geat review! Are you familiar with the axle removal tool. I do not understand how it is removed to use on other tire. Or how it is resecured to be confident it will not be lost.

      Thanks! I asked the tech when I took it back for its 30 day checkup. It pulls straight out, emphasis on straight. I got it out when I got home and put it in a saddle bag. I'll use my multitool or maybe get a 2nd one and leave them in. :)

    I have the same bike in dark aquatic! I love it, but at times I wish I would’ve spent the extra money to get a carbon bike. Still, after riding for 2 months, my stamina and speed has greatly increased.

    Could I just ask what is the two screw bolt meant to be for on the frame where is shows number 3 (near the dropbars)? I'm thinking to add a abus alarm box there but please let me know thanks

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! They are much like the bottle cage bolts on the downtube and seat tube. They can be used to attach a frame bag or a bento box like time trial bikes use.

    I'm thinking of getting one of this as my first road bike, but I have two major concerns: The mechanical disc brakes and the overall weight of the bike. How are the brakes? Do they have enough stopping power?

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I think the brakes are great. They haul the bike down quickly compared to my rim brake bikes, and smoothly as well. At 22 pounds the bike isn't racing light, on the other hand, I'm not a racer. 🙂

    • @h4fiz_202

      I bought the domane 2 al disc really really light esp coming from a mtb to a roadbike it really surprised me and the brake is really nice esp if you really tension it up plus if you buy a trek bike then you will have a life time frame warranty which is literally the best let me know what you go for!

    Hi.. how are the mechanical disk brakes in terms of stopping power and maintenance?

    • @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder
      @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The stopping power is much better than my rim brake bikes, by about 25 feet shorter distance. As for maintenance, I have not had to do anything after the initial cable "stretch".

    Nice review and I am bit confused on gravel bike from trek, Spacialized,Scott, so please guide because in each brand have something good and bad so bit confused and Scott giving hydrologic break and all are good Somao gears groupset and trek have bit high price if I compare with Scott and specialised also bit costly if I go with sora groupset.

      @@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder @JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder thank you for responding appreciate your help and support and yeah actually I have the same mindset and my riding will be 70% road and 30% off-road so she to that I just booked AL3 before 2 days back and I am happy with decision and same thought I also have like I will replace tyers with bit broder and grip once after use for some time.
