A great review, it’s always good to see a reviewer who’s not got his foot hard to the floor and talking about how aggressive everything is. Most cars are aimed at particular drivers and this review shows that. I’ve just ordered the 225e Active Tourer and for me it’s all about relaxed and quiet driving.

Thanks for watching and for noticing 😊. It’s not always about lap times!

Very good video and test drive’s comment. I tried the 220i sport model and I like the engine’s sound. But due to long wait for its delivery in France, I have to choose the 218i. In the end I had pleasure to drive this car: good visibility, automatic gear is responsive. It’s a whole new world for me as I had a Toyota CHR with a noisy CVT, a very bad visibility on the rear, and a small cargo space.

After buying and owning an Series 2 Active Tourer 220i U06 M sport for a couple of months and the car is horrible. The center floating console is useless (the covered part is so small that you can't even put your wallet and the open space beneath is hardly reachable. The plastics especially on doors are very thin, doors are empty and not properly insulated and everything resonates creating an annoying sound inside especially with the 3 cylinder engine like mine (220i). Consumption 10 in the city and 6.5 on the highway, but I hope in the summer will be less. The gearbox is good on high speed but on parking low speeds is laggy and unrefined.
But far the worst thing is the new Idrive 9 (all new cars have Idrive 9 since November 2023). The loading time of the Idrive is about 1 minute. The BMW maps are showing your position from about 8-10 seconds ago is confusing in city traffic (I guess is because of augmented reality indications). The touch event action itself has a big delay and comparing it to the Idrive 8 that have a touch sound feedback Idrive 9 has not.
And the no. 1 worst. issue is that Apple Carplay deconnects constantly and makes it unusable, and bmw dealer is not able to fix it since it appears to be a software issue of Idrive 9.

This is on my shortlist (plug in 230e) after a visit to my BMW dealer a few days ago.Very practical, luxury feel and brillant performance..i may end up ditching my e-2008 for this and say goodbye to range / charge anxiety. Only thing i need is for BMW to release final confirmed MPG figures.(once battery is flat)..just noticed and surprised no Adaptive Cruise control or even option, just standard cruise control included which is poor for a Tourer model although this may be because of parts shortages (plugin model-UK)

It does have adaptive cruise control for the UK model. It is part of the driver assistance professional package.

Shouldn't be an issue getting ACC any more

Very nice car and good review. Don't see any B classes about thesedays. Better looking than those small cross overs though.

Very true! Cars like this and the B Class often get overlooked in favour of crossovers. Thanks for watching!

I think the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer does tick a lot of boxes and it's very practical....not too big and better than a SUV. Great review Dave.

3 months 2600 kilometers and 2 times transmission problem can't drive, updated software doesn't help ... 225e Active Tourer hybrid

😢 sad to see then abandon the rotary controller, using touchscreens on the go is a disaster....

I agree. The iDrive controller was one of the most intuitive and easiest to use on the move. ^DH

Inside looks good but is it more suited to EV than an oil burner?

The PHEV model works well, with a useful range. A fully electric version would be good for families too.
