With the demise of most of its rivals, the BMW looks very distinctive. Great interior, and the exterior is much better looking than some of the recent BMWs. Like it!
If i ever buy a BMW, i would definitely get this one. Everything is great about it. I like the grills, i like the FWD, i love the fact that they don't offer dumb manual transmissions even as an option. Great work BMW.
I collected my 223i on the 16e of March. I Love the shape and that its not an SUV. OS8 is great, HUD is old fasiond:-) Seats are 👌🏻 and fuel efficiency is good!
Have to agree with James Mayhew(7 days ago) I am in a 10kw model 225xe and all he says is true but when the new hybrids appear longer electric distance, larger fuel tank,no exhaust protrusion, modern dash etc They could have left that cd player in though somewhere,I have 300 cd's .The 2 ltr hybrid will be quite a beast.
Oh that grill ! It might be better in all black…maybe ? Rest of the car looks good though . Rather have this than a suv . But an estate car ,such as a Golf ,or Leon makes just as much sense . Probably cheaper to buy and run as well . Rebecca superb as usual .
I have the older 218 version of this and love it. It’s a great family car and does what I want it to in comfort. I prefer the buttons and dials rather then the electric displays and don’t like the big grill but this new version is a nice upgrade in general .
The touch screen has an annoying lag and fingers have to rest on an unvarnished piece of wood trim (Lux version) which will look tatty in a couple of years of use - better off with the plastic option. The car looks great and they fixed the long travel on the brake peddle which used to result in an emergency stop.
I took delivery of my 223i this week, same colour and wheels as the one above but with Oyster Vernasca Leather seats and numerous extras, the whole package is brilliant, I traded my Mini Cooper S for this gem and I am delighted that I did. I also traded in my BMW X5 M Competition in January for an iX 50, also a brill machine. There is a long wait now for anyone wishing to take delivery of either of these models.
So the states trend towards suv/cuv instead of sedans and wagons/saloons has crossed over the pond to Europe. Always nice to see and hear Rebecca doing another thorough review...😎🤗😊 p.s. have your fuel costs shot way up there, like over here?
I've been driving my new UK version 220i since March this year (3K miles to date), having changed from a 2018 X1 18i (F48). This new car is streets ahead of both the X1 and the previous model Active Tourer (my son has a 1.6Ltr Diesel version of that car). My 2 A/T is economical, readily achieving 50+ mpg from its mild hybrid 1.5Ltr petrol engine and when I need a bit of 'oomph' the response is smooth and immediate. Ride quality, with standard suspension, is very good and it handles all road surfaces pretty well. Interior space is little different from my 'old' car and I can get all my golf gear, including a full size bag and electric trolley in the luggage compartment without difficulty. Another interesting point is that the recently announced, updated, X1 is internally a 'spitting imager' of the new 2 A/T. So why pay more! Nice one BMW.
@@steveaparicio Didn't take too long. Much the same as changing any car for a different model or make. Just took it carefully for the first couple of hundred miles.
The look counts the most in my opinion for this car. Now it is even more attractive. Just would rather have the 4 cyl engines instead of the 3 cyl. :) Nice video. Got my like.
I wasn’t totally convinced until I realised that it comes with a banana. That’s the moment I felt in love with this car. Now, seriously, I think it’s is clever, impressive vehicle. I wish it will be my next car, but I rather to wait for the hybrid 230e… despite it is much more expensive 😅
I hate it when reviewers jump inside the cars without first having given the viewer clear walkaround shots of how the car looks on the outside. Come on people, you have been reviewing cars for ages!
Thanks for the review Rebecca & GC, nice to see the 223i for a change as most reviewers had the 220i model - nothing but the best for our Rebecca 😁❤ This is a decent vehicle for sure, entry to the rear cabin is easier than the X3 even, however the lack of iDrive rotary controller is a deal breaker with the complex iDrive 8 system (iX & i4 cars still have it) and I don't like the speedo/tacho design. The gearbox delay thing was the same on previous model, how did u find the brakes, Rebecca, and would you have this or the X1 SUV/SAV?
Almost brought the earlier version but because of Covid I had to cancel order. The biggest complaint I have with this version is it still has that horrible outdated heads up display.
At the very least they could offer an optional extra for big bucks labeled "Buttons, for everything", in addition to having the same options via the touchscreen. I would even allow them to track me which of them I use...
I've just got myself a 2017 BMW 225xe MSport. To compare my car to this new model... My car is obviously cheaper (a lot cheaper). My car is faster (225bhp), and has 4 wheel drive My car has buttons and the iDrive system (not a fan of all controls being built into a touchscreen). The boot space is about the same. My car looks better (think its the ugly grill on the new model) I don't understand why a brand new car doesn't improve on every metric? If I had a choice of this new model, and my 2017 model and price was the same.... I'd choose my 2017 model. Who else agrees?
I too like the older ones. I am biased though.. I have a 220i GT arriving this summer. Its a shame they discontinued it, but looking at this AT I would think its probably for the best as I would not have bought it if it looked anything like this new AT.. :D
it is not MPV, no 7 seats, no sliding doors, no proper 3 seats in 2nd row. They know the recipe but decided to do nothing with it. Just fix it with xl version fast.
Inside is nice, BMWs always have great interiors. However, the 1,2, i, and X ranges are butt ugly, who buys these cars? Stick with the 4,5 and 8, you will forever have a smile when you drive. 4 or 5 for everyday driving and the 8 for fun.
Nice car but I'd buy a MB B class. Same size vehicle. Also has wonderful screen that has a touch pad in the centre console so no need to touch the screen. Also proper separate switches for Climate etc etc.
It's a shame they didn't take the chance to reposition this car or rename it as it seems wrong to have this car in the 2-Series line-up as that's really for coupès and roadsters. They could've fit it into the 1-Series line as it's a hatchback and it IS like a Touring 1er, or called it something like an X0 to kind of put it in the 'X' SUV/SAV line-up.
Good review. Not too impressed with the removal of the Rotary Wheel, ugly Grill and Horrible Cockpit display. Physical buttons are better and safer and wheel prevent reaching for the screen. I like the overall vehicle, but the changes worsen the iDrive known for their ease of use. I would consider another vehicle.
Sorry but it's not an MPV, like the pointless car that was the Golf plus it's a tall hatchback and even then a hideously overpriced one modelled on a Mini as it uses the same parts. Diesel not popular you say? What if you were doing more mileage as that's what a diesel is for? I know not everyone is doing large mileage diesel cars are not as bad as folk make out and certainly a diesel is a far better driving engine due to low down torque it offers. I think this car is ugly!
Just.. awful. Nothing but a gimmick, like all these other crossovers. Bring back proper cars.. estates do a much better job, and look far better than these things
Just got one of these as a loan car and I think it’s bloody awful! It's a 223i M sport. Found the infotainment screen a bit awkward to use at first, also the fuel level display is minimal-I really had to search to find it, as it’s the first thing one does when picking up a loan car is to see how much fuel there is in it. Driving position is not good, the seat is too high even on its lowest setting for me to be fully comfortable. The car accelerates fairly briskly and smoothly (once that initial hesitation is overcome). A quiet drive, indicator repeater sound is also on the quiet side. But overall the car drives well. But the brake pedal…. Oh dear! You press it down, and down…..and down…… and finally the brakes bite. The brake pedal is spongier than a SpongeBob Square pants spongy sponge pudding!! Good visibility all round? Yeah, apart from the awful A pillars and totally nothing on the rear quarters. And that grill design…. As Jeremy Clarkson once said, “it’s like a….vagina”! Ultimate driving machine? Nah, not for me…. I Can’t wait to give it back.
This is a huge improvement over the old Active Tourer. I think it looks better than most SUVs, to be honest.
With the demise of most of its rivals, the BMW looks very distinctive. Great interior, and the exterior is much better looking than some of the recent BMWs. Like it!

I like the grills, i like the FWD, i love the fact that they don't offer dumb manual transmissions even as an option.
Great work BMW.
Dumb Manuel transmissions? 😂 I mean I thought Manuel's were alright and required a bit more skill to use correctly. If anything it's not dumb at all.
Agree, had mine 3 weeks now and review is spot on. Hidden Gem
I collected my 223i on the 16e of March. I Love the shape and that its not an SUV. OS8 is great, HUD is old fasiond:-) Seats are 👌🏻 and fuel efficiency is good!
I think most people these days would look at that and think it's a SUV 😆
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. Lots to like about the New Model particularly the Interior Design

Surprised they don’t do the 220d Xdrive anymore, I had one in the last generation and it was rapid
Rotary Dial. I don’t bother with it as it’s got such a great voice control.
Thanks very much for a very good review. I have seen the car in a BMW showroom, and I personally think the design is great.
Absolutely ridiculous to do away with rotary IDrive controls and physical climate controls..
I agree as a rotary dial and physical buttons would make thing much easier
The rotary iDrive was my favourite thing about bmw it was a USP over later Mercedes and Audi

Do we know if the plugin models use LFP or NCM batteries at this stage?

Is the M Adaptive Suspension worth it? (extra £1500-higher trim) or will it make the ride more stiff /less comfortable?
Great video love
The seats are exaclty the same ones as my LCI X1 like the boot could literally be a shot from an X1 and you wouldn't notice the difference.

Just ordered mine, can’t wait. Did you get used to the brakes?
@@steveaparicio Didn't take too long. Much the same as changing any car for a different model or make. Just took it carefully for the first couple of hundred miles.
I just took delivery of a 220i and the problem with the long brake travel I experienced 6 months ago on the Dealer Demonstrator, has been cured .
Why isn't there going to be a 7-seater Gran Tourer version this time, like there was with the previous generation?
The look counts the most in my opinion for this car. Now it is even more attractive. Just would rather have the 4 cyl engines instead of the 3 cyl. :) Nice video. Got my like.

Currently driving a 220d, X-drive, Gran tourer, M-Sport. I like the new one, but at this point I will keep mine...
I hate it when reviewers jump inside the cars without first having given the viewer clear walkaround shots of how the car looks on the outside. Come on people, you have been reviewing cars for ages!
Wish I could upgrade mine
Yes definitely a fan had previous model very practical new2 series model much plusher B an cool 😎
Oh yes 5-seater MPV!
Yep, utterly pointless. And ugly
Big fan. Well done BMW
Does the FWD variant has torque steer under hard acceleration?
No it's not powerful enough really. You need to be pushing 300bhp for that these days.
I buy it❤️
An MPV with 415L of bootspace is nothing more than a raised hatchback.
I'm definitely a fan. Just not keen on that big grille.
It looks like a Peugeot from the side but, overall, quite a handsome beast, not sure who it is actually aimed at now though
My Brother and his three children and two dogs
@@alanwayte432 but it’s not the only car or even the best car he could buy
@@alanwayte432 a proper estate would've done a better job. This is just a gimmick.. a higher roof, so they can call it an 'SAT' 🤦♂️😅
I have a 69 plate active tourer, hoping to get the new one
What do you do if MPV's and family hatchbacks aren't selling? Label them as SUV crossovers.
BMW sold almost half a million of them under the previous generation, just saying.
Thanks for the review Rebecca & GC, nice to see the 223i for a change as most reviewers had the 220i model - nothing but the best for our Rebecca 😁❤

I have the previous model 2.0i auto and prefer the look of mine!
Hello love I always like 😜
it looks like a mix of SUV & hatchback...I really don't get how anyone would call it a minivan
Handsome ? ? ? Excuse me . 🤣
Its got a face that even a mother couldn’t love
My fave presenter!!!
Almost brought the earlier version but because of Covid I had to cancel order. The biggest complaint I have with this version is it still has that horrible outdated heads up display.
I Will buy it
Looks like a crossover to me.
That's all it is. RIP proper cars.. it's all about these gimmicky things nowadays
Bmw make a big mistake by not offering the grand tourer
The modern “hatchback”
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a less BMW before , they have certainly lost their design language well and truely
I pick mine up tomorrow 🥳🥳
Hideous looking with that grille aimed at the Chinese market and irritating not to say downright dangerous touch screen controls.

It is very nice but I can't drive any more

100%
What’s with the stupid looking HUD?! All BMWs use the one projected on the windscreen, now they have a silly little display like an old Mazda…….
Great while it works extremely expensive when it goes wrong. Technology over load much of which you could well do without.
