- Discord is filled to the brim with creeps and weirdos and thankfully Discord is adding new features to crush creeps.
You soon will have the option to censor sensitive photos, whether it be a little revealing or contain shock value. However things change if you are a teenager because Discord wants to get all those brownie points from those ridiculously hot moms that read discord news (call me).
And if you are going to talk to some weird stranger on Discord, Discord will give you some tips to keep yourself safe. And when you do stumble across a strange discord user with a creepy about me / profile photo / banner, you now are able to report their profile.

Honestly, good job Discord for changing the wording on their safety tips (they changed it again after this video).
They stressed the importance of talking to an adult even more than before. And yes, it's a minor change but it's for the better in my opinion.

Discord has had features like this for years, but at least they are improving on them, the old algorithm rarely worked, and when it did it was usually on completely innocent content.
I tried sharing a picture or a mold for resin and it was filtered as adult content until I put it in grayscale. Hopefully things will be better - both detection accuracy and lack of easy workarounds for actual bad content.

One of the games I play on discord has a cherry tree (with pink leaves). I could never share that item with others because it would get flagged as nsfw
i tried to send a europe scenario map and it got filtered and removed, all it took was taking off 1 country off the map and it was acceptable apparently

The blur is just....the spoiler tag with extra steps.

@@chair._ The poster can also just very slightly edit the image to remove the automatic blur. Basically the same thing but backwards. Pretty sure people will make client mods that will do this automagically soon-ish ;)

@@nezu_cc The filter that NTTS bypassed is the one discord had for multiple years (>3) now - I highly doubt they are gonna keep using that as it originates from a time where automatic image moderation was really just in its early steps - explicit content detection for images is a lot more advanced nowadays
Training an AI to recognize and censor images is a never-ending exercise in futility, but as long as I have the option to disable it, I'm fine. I still find it absolutely terrifying that kids have access to Discord. I know what it was like in the Wild West days of the internet and somehow, it's both a lot better but also far FAR worse now.

I'm in a few art discord servers (theyre all sfw, kid friendly). The amount of images that get slapped with the explicit content warning is hilarious. I've posted black and white sketches and had to screenshot it, for it to go through. No idea why screenshotting it and sending the same picture with no crop works. The discord filter's just that good

I just now realized the only reason these exist is because the min age to use Discord is 13 and not 18. So clearly Discord’s revenue relies on impressionable young people buying Nitro rather than adults and they would lose a significant portion of their bottom line if they were to up the minimum age.
Well obviously? Is pretty obvious they would lose out an a whole market if they restricted their platform to only adults, the majority or a large portion of gamers are teens.
there are tons of underage people on discord anyway. youtube, for example, tries to be child friendly even though people are supposed to be over 13.

I kinda like this. Let's take something horrible and redefine it into something positive that promotes safety. If words can be twisted into something hateful then we are just as capable of turning them into something positive.

In case you’re wondering, it was the texture for an axolotl.
Discord is used for communication with friends ingame (because the 6-engineer stack doesnt work without communication!), and niche servers. That's it. A little bit of tf2, some indie games, DMS between friends (mostly SFW meme images, sometimes we talk but if we want to talk, we talk irl). This blurring feature should never affect me, but i'm glad they have ANYTHING now.

What's funny is that there is an opensource project nsfwJS that detects "sensitive media", and it work way better than Discord's filter
the AI that detect explicit images is horrible though. There was a server I was in with the default image filtering settings where it would always block any image containing a lot of tan coloring, and I had to change the hue of the image for it to accept it. (Why does the coloring even matter?) And also, that same server got raided and people were spamming nsfw and gore everywhere without the bot detecting it.
Yknow weenors have some varying colors so tan might have something to do with it
You need to have cataracts and be a little zchizofrenic and get away from the screen to kinda see what the IA might see
The downside to safety updates like image recognition is that it forces privacy-sensitive conversations to another platform where images are not screened. I'm sure people will not realize that discord is essentially sending messages to your friend and the company, and private info will get leaked. Props to discord for giving users a toggle to at least not blur things for the end user if that's preferred for the user.
while this is nice and all, i don't think Discord really thought about the fact that some people will just abuse the report illegal content thing.

lol i got my account deleted on discord and still have no clue why. i didnt get a single email or anything, no response from support, they literally told me nothing and deleted my account. so, thats pretty cool
I tried to send a picture of my dog on her back showing her tummy, and it got marked as explicit and I forget if it didn't let me send or sent blurred (it was like a year ago), but I remember just sighing loudly at it. It was a puppy tummy. I had to draw a big squiggle over her whole stomach to break up the tan color.

that purple dot trick is a way to bypass most auto mods I dont know exactly how it works but editing a picture changes the embed or something so discord just thinks its a different picture entirely. I use snapchat filters to do my shit posting usually got to run it through the filters 2-3 times its magic

One time I was trying to send someone a meme that had an animated turtle in it (it was not NSFW in any way, it was just an animated turtle going "what is this place"), but it kept flagging it for nudity. I don't know why it was doing that
