Temu: Turning People Into Scammers

  • Temu, the Chinese Amazon, has a couple of tricks up its sleeve.
From having a full blown casino like experience in the app to rock bottom prices, tons of people have flocked to Temu. However, Temu's swift uprising has brought out the worst in people. From spamming Discord servers with referral links to scamming people with fake ROBLOX tweets, people are doing everything to satiate Temu's extremely exploitative referral system. Temu is turning people into scammers, spammers, deceivers, and more.

I'm glad I've already adopted this mindset of "if something on the Internet is aggressively advertised, avoid it like the plague." I did it with TikTok, I did it with every single sponsorship on TH-cam, and I'm sure as hell gonna do it with Temu.
Besides, if I want used items at a thrifty price I can just go to Goodwill. Also has an added bonus of being able to physically check the quality of what I'm buying before taking it home!

I don't know if you're allowed to ask people, but I'd like to know how often you're personally seeing the package contents labeled incorrectly in your area?
My experience with any place in China that sells dirt cheap stuff has always been that they intentionally mislabel the stuff to skirt Customs Duty.
I also haven't really considered it until now, but could that also have something to do with regulations regarding anti-trust, undercutting, and predatory pricing?

    • @bubblebeampiplup8132
      @bubblebeampiplup8132 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@pretzel4626 I cannot say for certain how much parcels are labelled incorrectly (either because the worker couldn’t be bothered to list them all, customer did say everything either by accident or on purpose, or other factors) as most parcels we process are usually labelled properly, and we stress to people that if it’s mislabeled and customs does get suspicious, they’ll send it back and they have to pay to resend it (it has happened a few times, and its a pain to explain it to them) and that if it is mislabeled, they could get in trouble if its stuff that cant be sent such as batteries or perfumes. Plus, most customers I serve are honest about what they send anyway.
I will say though that customs have begun to get strict about what goes as letters leaving Canada. Granted, even I can’t say why they are getting strict now, though all of the reasons you gave are plausible.

Insane sensory blasts like the popups and the ticking timers and things like that trigger my anxiety like nothing else and I freak out and close the app, it's almost full on fight or flight mode so it's been extraordinarily easy for me to avoid getting sucked into things like this. I feel bad for everyone else who gets got by it, I just got a cocktail of mental illness that somehow renders me nearly immune instead.

It bombards you with pleas to go premium constantly and has a whole ass unskippable tutorial before you even make an account. It's also another one of those things that claims not to be like other apps and completely fails to deliver. I gave up a few swipes in because it just won't stop hurling things at you to dodge. It got me so annoyed I uninstalled it not even a minute into actually getting to use it (after getting through the minimum effort "detailed" personalization of my account). Who even is this kind of aggressive spam meant to cater to? Who even decides to throw money at something which annoys them from the first second they start using it?

It really reminded me of just all the crappy ads for mobile games I have been seeing for years now; Flashy "get in on the action", "Download now" and of course, big bucks spent on adverting.

Temu has been funding me with data for over a year now, I know the location of every pixel on their phone, the location of their secret stash of treasure in the middle of Albuquerque new Mexico. And most importantly I know that they live at the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. In the morning they put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches, they can do 1000 now. After they remove the ice pack they use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower they use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on their face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then they apply an herb-mint facial mask which they leave on for 10 minutes. They always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
Thanks to Temu, I will be able to sell this information the dark web, and soon your cousins will know that their so called "free stuff" was really not so free. Because soon the dark web employees will come steal their livers.

It's so funny to me. I was in a marketing class at the time and for a paper i needed to research ads. So i went on TH-cam till i found some and Temu selling a "Frog Plush" for 69 cents immediately caught my eye.
While i was writing it I started doing a joke to myself that "i want the only ad on my TH-cam to the Frog Plush ad" mainly because it was funny looking and because I'm insane.
So every single time even in public if i saw the ad i would immediately say in a robotic voice "Frog Plush from Temu brings me tremendous joy!" And it worked too lmao. Nearly every day I'd see the exact same toy... So now learning all this about the company (which i already figured the joke was always ironic) makes it 10× funnier to me.
My professors words still haunt me "there are two kinds of people in the world. The people who understand marketing and the poor."
