  • This is one of my most frequently asked questions "What are your triple monitor settings?". So, I thought I would make a video showing all of the current 'simulators' in triple screen from my POV and sharing my settings. You will no doubt have to tinker to get things looking 'right' on your side so feel free to use mine as a ball park. Hope this video is of some use as it took me forever to record and edit! :/

    Great video with good info. Good RF2 tip too! However I have never understood why most users have their screens set between 45 and 60 degrees considering most of that viewing area is beside or behind you. I have mine set to 35 and it's great for me (granted mine are only 24"). When you consider most cars these days you can't move your head and see left or right much due to the head restraint built into the seat you end up with much the same as my setup. I still need to turn my head slightly to see the edges. IRL modern cars you generally don't see cars beside you until they are near your A pillar (that's what mirrors are for if you are lucky enough not to have them knocked off).

    I'm still loving my new G9 with 1000R curves, but some people are even setting up a triple-monitor setup because of the curves. I can't replicate it, but with TrackIR any distortion around the peripherals doesn't matter anyway because I can't directly look at. The head-tracking might be also a solution for triple-users in games without triple-support.

  • @fad2679
    @fad2679 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I also have 27" triples and I really feel like FOV calculators are overrated. They specialise in creating a 1:1 ratio and that is it. It throws depth perception and sense of speed out the window, and as a result reduces immersion quite a lot.
    What I do is use the FOV calculators as a starting point, then I reduce the in-game screen distance to my eyes. This stretches the image towards the centre of the middle screen, which therefore sacrifices some scaling accuracy for increased depth and speed perception. And ironically now my lap times are faster and it just feels so much more like driving a car.
    A lot of the fastest drivers in ACC don't use FOV calculators with their triple setups either.

    Having come from a triple 40 I'm TV, setup, then a super ultra wide 49 Samsung monitor and now back to a single 55 inch LG C1 Oled TV. The problem with 27 inch monitors is that there is just not enough vertical height and this can make viewing the in game car's hud display difficult. Also, the greater height gained by using bigger monitors, is better for immersion imo

    Not many talks about this but setups with screens just above wheel base is not for everyone. example I'm farsighted so having screens as close as this hurts my eyes. So I usually have screen where is my pedals which is around 0.8-1 meter away from the beginning of the wheel base and still feel it bit to close. So really double check before buying the curtain rig setup as it might be compact and you would think it will be amazing but you might disappoint which would cost extra money to fix it.

      I believe he is running a 3090, triple 2k so that's 7680x1440 res, I followed his advice and went with flat 27" I have a i5 10600K 16gb ram rtx 3070 and solid state hdd, this runs ACC just fine at up to 75fps with DLSS set to quality, but Rf2 I have to be careful with graphics settings to get stable 60fps, ams2 looks amazing and works very well at 60fps. My monitors can handle up to 165hz, so plenty of future proofing in there should I upgrade GPU and CPU etc, I wouldn't discount triple 1080p though, which is far less taxing in terms of pixels but that said triple 2k looks great, just be sure to get slim bezels and also look for flat faced displays that you can butt up to one another, I've got the GT Omega triple screen mounts which are good. If you are on a 3070 or above you'll be able to enjoy triples with ample quality, love the immersion it gives you

      @@leighdog5866 you can use 3x 4k, but it requires a monster computer to output that many pixels at a stable framerate. The total pixel count of a 4K picture is 8,294,400. A triple 2k array is 11,059,200 pixels - so you can see that its heavy going on the GPU. A triple 4K array would be nearly 25 million pixels, so you need weapon grade equipment to use that at a usable framerate. I was glad that PS5 now has 2K support as this means I can use it on my tripple screen rig using the central display - good for GT7 etc, but for the most part my console lives seperately with an OLED TV, the sim rig is best used for the PC simulation gaming. One thing you should consider is one of those extreme ultrawide monitors, instead of triples, they are 5120x1440 so not as taxing for the GPU and you could play console on that all be it with black bars on the sides as consoles need to stick to 16:9. There is no golden answer here, I have raced on a 4K 48" TV, then an UWQHD monitor (3440 x 1440) and now the triples. The triples are the best for me, although the 4K single was great, but it was quite massive...

      @@leighdog5866 well, at the time of purchasing my PC (April 2021) I knew that I would get the sim racing bug pretty hard, and so I did spec a PC that had a bit of redundant power under the hood as I knew that as time progressed, games would update, and inevitably I would need more power. I didn't foresee that I would end up getting triples, had I known that I would have tried to stretch to a 3080 at the time, however cryto mining was big at the time and I had to put a limit on my budget. I did a test on my pc before I got the triples to see if it would handle 7680x1440 - by setting custom resolutions (which looked ridiclously distored on my monitor but it was a good test tha my machine could handle triples at half decent graphics settings. Something you have to bear in mind is better graphics doesn't mean you will a faster driver, it does of course improve the experience. Either way you look at it, sim racing is an expensive hobby, but its a damn addictive one.

    I really do like your vids, but honestly, FOV settings has nothing to do with personal preference or as you say "looks right". simply if you do not put the measured values into game settings (especially the viewing distance), your fov can not be correct. You can still feel it is "right" but not correct. Cheers

    • @davecamm
      @davecamm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd rather have something that's incorrect that I'm comfortable with than having a miserable experience. I did say in the video that there is a mathematical equation to get the correct fov 👍

    • @MyGermo
      @MyGermo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davecamm how can you change FOV in real life? You cant. Does it mean you feel uncomfortable driving your car? No.
      This is the same. Correct fov feels natural in any sim. e.g. your RRE fov settings is correct and gives you 3x 58,4° = 175° FOV and that is value you should have in all sims inc. iR. the difference is not huge at all, but this vid is already 3rd which contains technically incorrect information about fov settings.
