  • This old girl was in need of some serious love... Billy did a lot of work under the hood to get her as a cross country worthy as possible. It is one this to drive across the country.. it is another to do it with an extra few thousand pounds.
    Between the truck camper and the boats, we will be towing we needed to beef up the suspension as well. Time to hit the road ;)

    Treat the rust while you have the truck apart. May have been fine up until now, but have see too many trucks that end up needing frames welded because of big holes. Use a rust encapsulater or rust converter on everything. Even the drive shaft, etc. Will last lots longer and the next owners will thank you. I use stuff in rattle cans. Easy and lasts and lasts. Also use on steel trailers.

    As a mechanic with 30+ years experience I have to say good job on the repairs and upgrades, now that it will "go" reliably, do not forget that rolling smooth and stopping is important too. Many people overlook the bearings in the rear differential, you are carrying a heavier load now on parts worn in with a lighter load, accelerated wear is not uncommon when working conditions change. The brakes on that truck are more than adequate for the application, but do inspect them for condition and function. All the best from land locked Alberta.

    I've got the same truck with the 5spd manual transmission. Shortbed. Same year, same color. Same problem with crap getting inside the fender by the air intake. Freaking stupid starlings. I also put an aftermarket lift pump on mine very soon after I bought it on 2007. I put the FASS system on mjne.It had about 172,000 then. It's got a little over 261,000 now. I've had zero issues with the vp44. Love my truck!

  • @thomaspaccione7214
    @thomaspaccione7214 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow! Good job. In the shot where you removed the bed from the truck, it looked like you had wood between the bed and the frame. I could not tell latter in video when you were all done if it was still there. Not sure if wood is a good idea there, it will get wet and eventually get soft, and may cause some play between the bed and the frame. I really envy your life, the both of you. Just living life on your terms and having no schedule that you have not set for yourself. If I were only able to do it all over again!! I can't wait to see you guys on the new boat, it will be awesome! Until then, I know you guys will have an amazing time going wherever you want to go. Drive safe!

    I dig these videos regardless of the mode of transportation.
    In the first part of the video your hair was all wind blown. You looked like a young Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.
    Definitely enjoy these projects and it happened to notice that this was done prior to doing the camper which obviously was a smart way to do it because if you don't have a dependable vehicle the camper has nowhere to sit.
    You always do it right the first time no expense spared buying the best that you can afford, BRAVO! No clean air no proper functioning diesel engine. Thank you Mr Diesel!
    The turbo almost works like part of a jet engine ( turbo fan & compressor). The more uninterrupted air the better.
    Where are Billy, Sierra and Jetty currently? Last video was block Island, where from there?
