Just found your channel! Your Petri dish experiment is brilliant! anyone can review a tool to show how to operate it, but no one I’ve seen shows if it actually “works” to the result of its claim!
Unplug, hold the trigger down until it no longer releases steam/water/pressure. While still holding the trigger, Slowly unscrew the top (just a little) until all of the pressure is released. Carefully refill as it is obviously still hot. I only use distilled in mine.
I liked the way you did this. You showed me the bad thing that could happen. I will explain it to my partner since he never reads the manual. You showed me how it works. I tried watching two other people on this and didn't make it through the video because they did not show me what I needed to know to be able to stop being afraid of it. I've had this thing for 6 months. I'm now ready to use it. Thank you!
If you're going to repeat the sanitize experiment, add a few extra things for comparison. Test how effective regular dish soap is at sanitizing an area. Test vinegar. I'm sure there are other things you'd use as well - that'd all give a great comparison of how effective various things are.

I bought this recently and I would say your review is 100% spot on. It's so loud. My dog is terrified of it and I did put my ear buds for some protections (I didn't have anything else). It did a beautiful job with my oven but not a good job with my grout.
Your grading system is spot on! 3 = does what it's supposed to. Not good, not bad, as expected. I wish more folks understood this! My Bissel Power Shot handheld arrives this week - I'll try to remember to come back and let you know if I had any different results. Main items for me are blocking for crochet (kind of the same as dewrinkling clothes), cleaning dog toys, cleaning shower areas where the caulking needs to be replaced, and cleaning fixtures where dust has collected but taking the fixtures down is a real hassle. Oh, also our air fryer and stove top vent filters. We cook a lot of cast iron meals and the metallic vents end up dripping grease (so gross) and we haven't found a great way to clean those yet. I am hoping this will be a good chemical-free answer to certain concerns.

I used it once so far. Tried in my shower to remove scum from glass shower door and tub. Some of the caulking was discolored and I used the scraper along with a spray of white vinegar and that worked. My complaint is on a bigger job like a shower, I has to refill the steamer a few times and that made the project quite time consuming as I had to wait for the thing to cool down and then heat back up. I tried it on my white baseboards that were covered in a film of dust and it did very well.
I agree with big jobs, it takes FOREVER to let it cool down, refill, and start again. It work so well for me in the bathroom tub but I often don't have the patience to use it. 😬 But I love it when I use it! I do have an updated video about the Bissel where I re-tested some of the bacteria test that you might be interested in watching! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hello, thank you for your video information. May I give one super tip? Use a paper towel dipped in ammonia and stick it on any burned, cooked food surface, let it soak, check every 15 minutes till it totally wipes off, NO SCRUBBING at all...This works GREAT for fireplace/wood stove windows, (cool first, of course) No Scraping or scrubbing at all. Any extremely (or not) grimy greasy burnt dirty surface will wipe away with no scrubbing after soaked. Don't let the paper towel dry or you'll have to start the soaking again, a squirt bottle works excellent.
That is a great tip! I haven't tried ammonia, great tip with the squirt bottle that would make it way easier to keep the paper towel soaked. Clever!!! Thank you for this suggestion!
Thank you for this. Throughout the pandemic I assumed my Bissell was effectively sanitizing the doorknobs, faucet handles, light switches etc. After watching your video, back to chemicals it is. On a positive note, the Bissell really shines up glass, mirror and stainless steel like nobody’s business.

To get things clean when using these steam cleaners, you must pre-treat the surface with a cleaning agent..such as Tilex, Scrubbing Bubbles, Pinesol, or Mr. Clean..let the item sit for about 20 min, THEN use your steam cleaner😉!..
I was wondering about that. I understand why she didn't in this video, but I thought the same thing--use it in conjunction with other cleaning products.
I will be frank about my thoughts after watching 3 videos on this product by three different women. The time it takes to pull out the Bissell, fill with water, heat it up and then attach a tool, steam whatever needs steam, wipe the surface, cool the steamer before refilling, etc. and then pack it all away is a crazy waste of time. The other thought constantly running through my head before you put a warning in your video is that many people are going to get burns while operating this product unless they wear an oven mitt on the hand doing the wiping. I felt terrible when I saw what happened to your hand not to mention what could have happened had your face been closer. There should be a warning in black right on that steam cover. Your tests before and after for bacteria 🧫 proved it doesn’t “sanitize” as suggested. Thank you for your thorough assessment. Great video!

It's not really the sort of thing you pull out for quick cleaning jobs like a spill on the counter or something. It's more like a deep cleaning tool to get into hard to clean crevasses and save yourself elbow grease.
100% Like it made my oven look brand new in about 45 minutes with no chemicals. Totally worth the $30 I paid for just that function alone.@@DimaRakesah
I have found the steamer does a great job on the shower door scale. I blast it with the steam to loosen and lift, then use a razor blade scraper to clear the scale. They turn out like new!
I have this thing,, it's only loud if hissing high pitches bother you , it's not as loud as a regular vacuum or even a battery vac ,,, I liked this review, great for the common consumer,,,, Side note is she the Report of the Week kids mom ? Their accents are similar, tho his is from the 1930s
The Steam Cleaner can be very loud so if loud sounds are difficult for someone I would suggest hearing protection. I am not the Report of the Week mom.. I don't know that channel... hahah! I think most of the manufacturers are giving a cut-off time of 60 s with the steam pressure being applied very nearby, so it'd basically require being on the same spot for the 60 s. An also important note is that we don't need to eliminate all bacteria, for example there's always going to be S. marcescens around, as it lives on soap, but we do want to avoid E. coli etc transmission. A pretty standard way of sanitising would be first washing with soap, drying, and then spraying with 70 vol% ethanol, left for 30 s at least, and wiping it again. Also, soap itself is usually enough sanitising, as bacterial and viral have lipid membranes, which the soap breaks down! Using alcohol-based disinfecters is good practice otherwise, as they don't have the same likelihood for developing antimicrobial resistance.
Thank you for your thoughts! I agree with you that there is no need to eliminate all bacteria and there is plenty of beneficial bacteria all around us (I have a Master’s in Neurobiology). I enjoy testing a variety of cleaners in real world household scenarios to see if they match manufacturer's label claims. @@FieldOfFocus I think it was real helpful! I wish I had known. I was really shocked at the steam cleaning. I thought by steam cleaning I was doing a really good thing and killing bacteria. I wasn’t.
Note that Bissell recalled these, at least some of the models. Go to there website and check the serial numbers. I didn't return mine because they didn't give a way to send them back. I think that the people who were injured didn't use them the right way. So, I don't really use mine to disinfect. I use it to clean hard to reach places. I'm not that fussed about having some bacteria. I like things to be clean, but not looking for a sterile environment.
I did exactly the same thing , didn't wait and burnt my hand, I had the same burn around my thumb and finger , ouch ! lesson learned..... Put some after sun cream with aloe vera, which defo helped. It's a decent machine , more powerful than I thought. Is it ok to add a little white vinegar ? I figure it might help cleaning the deposits in the machine and help with the cleaning as well, might be wrong.
I definitely need a lesson in patience when using my steam cleaner!! I did reach out to Bissell, they said not to put anything in the tank except water. I would never heat up vinegar and steam it... nope! But if you have hard water I can see putting some in the tank, rolling it around, then emptying it (not plugging it in at all) then rinsing with water..? I personally will only put water in mine. If your water is super hard, you could use bottled water in the steamer.. Thanks for watching!

I have a steam cleaner 34 dollars at walwart auto section, and i love it, also it does not allow you to unscrew the cap until it has cooled down, great feature.

I like it to clean fridge ..patio door .casing . Window casing ..it kills fruitflies steaming the drains bit I still go over with bleach kitchen and bathroom after or disinfectant that can be used on food surfaces and it's good for cleaning garbage cans soap scum on the washing machine etc etc
I think that is a smart way to use it. I also do over with other disinfectants the areas that I want cleaned more. But for sticky residue etc it does work well! I am finishing a new video about it. I think it will be ready for next Wednesday!
I’d actually love to see you test the UV disinfectant boxes. The munchkin brand has one and there’s tons more. They say it does everything even phones toys etc.
oooh that is a great question as well!! I guess it would depend on is the wood sealed or painted? I think for wood paneling on a shed or barn soapy water then a rinse would be the most economical.
@@FieldOfFocus True...for me the wood is not sealed. Specially I have and old barn that is pretty dirty from barn animals ( and from dust and being old) that I need to clean in various sections but it is so dirty. I mopped one concrete floor area til the water was clear and I think I mopped it almost 100 times 😅 so imagine the wood has soaked up more dirt than concrete
When next time u get burned by steam,mix baking soda and ice cold water,make it into a paste put it on a wash cloth and then apply it to ur burn, no scarring.
Of course a degreaser would help first, but I was showing how the Bissell Handheld Steamer worked alone. I wasn't making a video on how to remove the grease but rather can the steamer do it alone. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
So I'm gonna be confused for a minute here. Cause that's what I do I get confused. So you have control, which is B4 you clean it, and then you have before you clean it. So what's the difference between control and B4? Just asking, don't mean to be a pain, but uh, I'm not sure I think they're the same right?

I was wondering if you found any info for this steam cleaner on the actual temperature it heats up to and possibly the PSI that it outputs? I feel that the temperature will likely make a big difference in how well it sanitizes. I have ordered a Dupray Neat steamer which is 275 degrees @ 50PSI from what I have read. I know it's not in the same class as this one as it is 6 X the price but I was looking for videos on that when I came across yours. Thanks again. Carl

I would have done the test differently. First of all, sanitizing means reducing the amount of bacteria on a clean surface. Cause bacteria can hide in the dirt and not get destroyed by the steam. So i would take 3 samples dirty clean and sanitize cause that would show if it is really worth it to do the sanitizing step or not. And i would have used the tool with a cleaning brush to clean the sink and rinse before get my clean sample.
I heard you had to steam for 3 min at 240-250F to actually eliminate germs and viruses completely. I don’t think 20 secs is enough time. However, 20 sec did do justice. I’d like to see it compared to a chemical cleaner.

Ironing clothes kills bacteria and viruses, they tell us. Is a quick pass with a steam iron sufficient or do we necessarily have to insist on 20"? Could you try it?

Steam mops increasingly common. As for bacteria just be sensible and dont mix and match cleaning tools. Plus in my opinion you can’t beat bleach a little bit of bleach down a sink and toilet to feel its a hygienic as possible…….be careful if using a steam mop you have the correct kind of floors……believe they brilliant on tiled floors…… happy cleaning 😊
I did this test about a year and a half ago, but I usually use distilled water in my steamer. Good idea to test different sources! Will add that to my viewer suggestion list!
If you spray steam towards the hole of the piping, the steam will return from the piping. It is impossible to compare the test environment of a general home kitchen with the test results of the laboratory.
The purpose of my channel is to get real world results from cleaning products. I am not trying to duplicate or replicate laboratory settings. I want to see the difference between what a product claims from lab testing to what occurs in my home. Thanks for watching.
Nice review. I think the steam isn’t superheated on this device. A hotter steam around 340 degrees F would probably work better in the degreasing and sanitizing departments.

I just got a steam mop which can covert to a handheld for grouting or cleaning hobs etc……… most cleaning will not get rid of a 100% of bacteria or viruses but reducing them or making them harmless for example killing the oily envelope of a covid19 virus is useful. But anyway I now have squeaky clean floors that may not be bacteria free but given fact its a floor…..how long would it be bacteria free anyway? Looks clean, smells clean or should I say neutral as no products used to get results and my polti steam mop has a very dirty looking pad on bottom that is about to go into my washing machine on a hot wash (with detergents)
Sounds good to me! I have done some testing on some floor cleaning systems on bacteria removal.. I have tested the Bissel Crosswave, OCedar Mop, and Shark Steam Mop. I don't have a Polti Steam mop though. I agree floors can and will harbor bacteria. I was far more concerned with the floors when I had crawling babies than I am now. I do want to test how long various surfaces remain bacteria free... is it 24 hours? 48? 12? Thanks for watching and commenting!
With your petri dish test, it looks like the steam cleaner only removed some of the bacteria. My suggestion (to anyone) would be to spray (with a spray bottle, not the steam cleaner itself) some tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil (both anti-bacterial) to the areas one wishes to target when cleaning. Spraying down the areas with those essential oils (with a spray bottle first), followed by a hot jet of steam from the Bissel steam cleaner ought to really remove the bacteria better.

Hi there! In the manual for my Bissell steam cleaner it says "Never put descaling, aromatic, alcoholic, detergent, or vinegar products into the steam cleaner, as this may damage it or make it unsafe for use." I personally would not add anything except water to the steam cleaner. Do you have a steam cleaner? Do you like it?
People forget the fact the steam clean is just the first part you still have to clean the areas after. If you dont want to use chemicals make a vinegar cleaner with a essential oil.

I just got it. The light goes on and off. Didn't have as much steam as yours. Having problem turning screw on and off. I think it might be defective and asking walmart to replace. How do you know when there's no water.
ok. so the screw cap can be and should be tight, I have to press my lid down to unscrew. I assume there is no more water in it after I have used it for a while and the steam gets weaker and weaker until no more. Sorry you are having problems with it.
I use alcohol after This steamer is the start to get grim off ~I give it a 10! since it would take all day of scrubbing to do what this does in 15 minutes you have to move it slow but sink would need the brush and several cleanings 2=4 on first go around ...so after you clean then try cleaning regularly and then try your test since your house looks grimy honey!!!! I'm a clean specialist in grime!!!

I had both a shark steam mop and handheld steamer that lasted about 10 years. We replaced with this Bissell and the inexpensive Shark Steam mop. I will do a review on that sometime. I wonder if you have hard water causing it to clog? I enjoy using steamers! Thanks for watching!!
I have very sensitive ears and it wasn’t loud to me. Instructions also say clean the area first. So if your area is filthy, well it’s going to take scrubbing definitely first. This cleaner is not meant for months and months of crud.
Have you released all the pressure after it is cool? Sometimes I have to press down and turn.. Or give Bissell Customer Service a call, I am sure they can walk you through it!
Bad burn! I have burnt myself too and I know how it feels. Yeah, that is one tool I wouldn’t Let a child use without very close supervision. I have a handheld and canister steamer. The canister one has even hotter steam! Be very careful using any steamer products.
I do not like the small water capacity, it’s only 6oz and the cord is too long! It’s almost like the length of cord is for a large project but the water amount is for a small cleaning area. I wonder what the designer was thinking.
@@FieldOfFocus I love how you test products and call it like it is. There was mention of a small area and then you pointed to a toilet handle. I didn’t get small area until I saw the handle. Yikes! I wasn’t using mine properly. When I saw the length of the cord, I started going all around this big bathroom but I wasn’t spending 20 seconds in any one spot. Looking @ the massive amount of bacteria on the "B" side should tell u the "A" side required more steam. It wasn't fair that u used the steamer 4 20sec on each side. U should have done @ least 40sec on the "A" side.
So I didn't know there would be that much bacteria on A, there was no way to know that. I was following the manufactures guidelines for sanitizing. So if I used it for 40 seconds that wouldn't be what the manufacture says you need. I can do some more tests where I increase the time of steam! It would be interesting to see if 40 seconds works!
@@FieldOfFocus I guess I was paying attention when u read the manufacturer info, but thanks, 4 even considering what I said. I, too think the results should be shown individually, showing "A" 1st, then "B" 2nd. I think the bacteria results would give the steamer a better assessment.
I’m trying to figure out how to disinfect baby toys even stuffed animals without chemicals. I have a hand steamer but it’s not a good one and has no attachments just four holes about half inch apart. And doesn’t shoot out at all like you have to touch the item almost for it to get hot hot. So I’m looking for something and don’t trust the UV technology. I know most stuff I can wash but I’m looking for a way to disinfect stuff like a playmat and the toys hanging…jumper and toys hanging, playpen stuff like that. Anyone know of chemical free way to truly disinfect such things easily like every other day fairly quickly?
You could try vinegar or vinegar and dish soap, Force of Nature... I am going to test just the sun shine once it gets sunny here (been raining or cloudy for month!).. I was following the manufactures guidelines in their instructions. I do think the steam needs to be held longer for some surfaces which makes it not the best choice for anyone looking for a quick sanitize!

I bought this recently and I would say your review is 100% spot on. It's so loud. My dog is terrified of it and I did put my ear buds for some protections (I didn't have anything else). It did a beautiful job with my oven but not a good job with my grout.

Your grading system is spot on! 3 = does what it's supposed to. Not good, not bad, as expected. I wish more folks understood this! My Bissel Power Shot handheld arrives this week - I'll try to remember to come back and let you know if I had any different results. Main items for me are blocking for crochet (kind of the same as dewrinkling clothes), cleaning dog toys, cleaning shower areas where the caulking needs to be replaced, and cleaning fixtures where dust has collected but taking the fixtures down is a real hassle. Oh, also our air fryer and stove top vent filters. We cook a lot of cast iron meals and the metallic vents end up dripping grease (so gross) and we haven't found a great way to clean those yet. I am hoping this will be a good chemical-free answer to certain concerns.

I used it once so far. Tried in my shower to remove scum from glass shower door and tub.
Some of the caulking was discolored and I used the scraper along with a spray of white vinegar and that worked.
My complaint is on a bigger job like a shower, I has to refill the steamer a few times and that made the project quite time consuming as I had to wait for the thing to cool down and then heat back up.
I tried it on my white baseboards that were covered in a film of dust and it did very well.
I agree with big jobs, it takes FOREVER to let it cool down, refill, and start again. It work so well for me in the bathroom tub but I often don't have the patience to use it. 😬 But I love it when I use it! Hello, thank you for your video information. May I give one super tip? Use a paper towel dipped in ammonia and stick it on any burned, cooked food surface, let it soak, check every 15 minutes till it totally wipes off, NO SCRUBBING at all...This works GREAT for fireplace/wood stove windows, (cool first, of course) No Scraping or scrubbing at all. Any extremely (or not) grimy greasy burnt dirty surface will wipe away with no scrubbing after soaked. Don't let the paper towel dry or you'll have to start the soaking again, a squirt bottle works excellent.

To get things clean when using these steam cleaners, you must pre-treat the surface with a cleaning agent..such as Tilex, Scrubbing Bubbles, Pinesol, or Mr. Clean..let the item sit for about 20 min, THEN use your steam cleaner😉!..

Mmmm. My bad, as I have never ‘pre-cleaned,’
I would rinse the cleaner first. I wouldn't want it mixing with the steam and inhaling it.
I will be frank about my thoughts after watching 3 videos on this product by three different women. The time it takes to pull out the Bissell, fill with water, heat it up and then attach a tool, steam whatever needs steam, wipe the surface, cool the steamer before refilling, etc. and then pack it all away is a crazy waste of time. The other thought constantly running through my head before you put a warning in your video is that many people are going to get burns while operating this product unless they wear an oven mitt on the hand doing the wiping. I felt terrible when I saw what happened to your hand not to mention what could have happened had your face been closer. There should be a warning in black right on that steam cover. Your tests before and after for bacteria 🧫 proved it doesn’t “sanitize” as suggested. Thank you for your thorough assessment. Great video!

It's not really the sort of thing you pull out for quick cleaning jobs like a spill on the counter or something. It's more like a deep cleaning tool to get into hard to clean crevasses and save yourself elbow grease.

I have found the steamer does a great job on the shower door scale. I blast it with the steam to loosen and lift, then use a razor blade scraper to clear the scale. They turn out like new!

I think most of the manufacturers are giving a cut-off time of 60 s with the steam pressure being applied very nearby, so it'd basically require being on the same spot for the 60 s. An also important note is that we don't need to eliminate all bacteria, for example there's always going to be S. marcescens around, as it lives on soap, but we do want to avoid E. coli etc transmission. A pretty standard way of sanitising would be first washing with soap, drying, and then spraying with 70 vol% ethanol, left for 30 s at least, and wiping it again.
Also, soap itself is usually enough sanitising, as bacterial and viral have lipid membranes, which the soap breaks down! Using alcohol-based disinfecters is good practice otherwise, as they don't have the same likelihood for developing antimicrobial resistance.

I enjoy testing a variety of cleaners in real world household scenarios to see if they match manufacturer's label claims. Note that Bissell recalled these, at least some of the models. Go to there website and check the serial numbers. I didn't return mine because they didn't give a way to send them back. I think that the people who were injured didn't use them the right way. So, I don't really use mine to disinfect. I use it to clean hard to reach places. I'm not that fussed about having some bacteria. I like things to be clean, but not looking for a sterile environment.

I did exactly the same thing , didn't wait and burnt my hand, I had the same burn around my thumb and finger , ouch ! lesson learned..... Put some after sun cream with aloe vera, which defo helped. It's a decent machine , more powerful than I thought. Is it ok to add a little white vinegar ? I figure it might help cleaning the deposits in the machine and help with the cleaning as well, might be wrong.
I definitely need a lesson in patience when using my steam cleaner!! I did reach out to Bissell, they said not to put anything in the tank except water. I would never heat up vinegar and steam it... nope! But if you have hard water I can see putting some in the tank, rolling it around, then emptying it (not plugging it in at all) then rinsing with water..? I personally will only put water in mine. If your water is super hard, you could use bottled water in the steamer.. Thanks for watching!

I most certainly would test a space laser for a viewer if I had access to one!
I like it to clean fridge ..patio door .casing . Window casing ..it kills fruitflies steaming the drains bit I still go over with bleach kitchen and bathroom after or disinfectant that can be used on food surfaces and it's good for cleaning garbage cans soap scum on the washing machine etc etc
I think that is a smart way to use it. I also do over with other disinfectants the areas that I want cleaned more. But for sticky residue etc it does work well! I am finishing a new video about it. I think it will be ready for next Wednesday!
I’d actually love to see you test the UV disinfectant boxes. The munchkin brand has one and there’s tons more. They say it does everything even phones toys etc.

I am curious to see what a good way to clean/ disinfect dirty wood is ( like from a shed or barn). I've used soap and water before 🤷♀️
oooh that is a great question as well!! I guess it would depend on is the wood sealed or painted? I think for wood paneling on a shed or barn soapy water then a rinse would be the most economical.

Specially I have and old barn that is pretty dirty from barn animals ( and from dust and being old) that I need to clean in various sections but it is so dirty. I mopped one concrete floor area til the water was clear and I think I mopped it almost 100 times 😅 so imagine the wood has soaked up more dirt than concrete
When next time u get burned by steam,mix baking soda and ice cold water,make it into a paste put it on a wash cloth and then apply it to ur burn, no scarring.

Of course a degreaser would help first, but I was showing how the Bissell Handheld Steamer worked alone. I wasn't making a video on how to remove the grease but rather can the steamer do it alone. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
So I'm gonna be confused for a minute here. Cause that's what I do I get confused. So you have control, which is B4 you clean it, and then you have before you clean it. So what's the difference between control and B4? Just asking, don't mean to be a pain, but uh, I'm not sure I think they're the same right?

I was wondering if you found any info for this steam cleaner on the actual temperature it heats up to and possibly the PSI that it outputs? I feel that the temperature will likely make a big difference in how well it sanitizes. I have ordered a Dupray Neat steamer which is 275 degrees @ 50PSI from what I have read. I know it's not in the same class as this one as it is 6 X the price but I was looking for videos on that when I came across yours. Thanks again. Carl

I would have done the test differently. First of all, sanitizing means reducing the amount of bacteria on a clean surface. Cause bacteria can hide in the dirt and not get destroyed by the steam. So i would take 3 samples dirty clean and sanitize cause that would show if it is really worth it to do the sanitizing step or not. And i would have used the tool with a cleaning brush to clean the sink and rinse before get my clean sample.

I would have used Dawn Power wash on your Ninja first . That Power wash is excellent at cutting through grease .

I clean my stove top by using peroxide and baking soda and Dawn. I put a wet kitchen towel over it and let sit overnight. Wipes off pretty easily.

I heard you had to steam for 3 min at 240-250F to actually eliminate germs and viruses completely. I don’t think 20 secs is enough time. However, 20 sec did do justice. I’d like to see it compared to a chemical cleaner.

Steam mops increasingly common. As for bacteria just be sensible and dont mix and match cleaning tools. Plus in my opinion you can’t beat bleach a little bit of bleach down a sink and toilet to feel its a hygienic as possible…….be careful if using a steam mop you have the correct kind of floors……believe they brilliant on tiled floors…… happy cleaning 😊
What source of water did you use ? Is that tap water. Can you test using different sources ?
I did this test about a year and a half ago, but I usually use distilled water in my steamer. Good idea to test different sources! Will add that to my viewer suggestion list!

If you spray steam towards the hole of the piping, the steam will return from the piping. It is impossible to compare the test environment of a general home kitchen with the test results of the laboratory.
The purpose of my channel is to get real world results from cleaning products. I am not trying to duplicate or replicate laboratory settings. I want to see the difference between what a product claims from lab testing to what occurs in my home. Thanks for watching.
Nice review. I think the steam isn’t superheated on this device. A hotter steam around 340 degrees F would probably work better in the degreasing and sanitizing departments.

I just got a steam mop which can covert to a handheld for grouting or cleaning hobs etc……… most cleaning will not get rid of a 100% of bacteria or viruses but reducing them or making them harmless for example killing the oily envelope of a covid19 virus is useful. But anyway I now have squeaky clean floors that may not be bacteria free but given fact its a floor…..how long would it be bacteria free anyway? Looks clean, smells clean or should I say neutral as no products used to get results and my polti steam mop has a very dirty looking pad on bottom that is about to go into my washing machine on a hot wash (with detergents)
Sounds good to me! I have done some testing on some floor cleaning systems on bacteria removal.. I have tested the Bissel Crosswave, OCedar Mop, and Shark Steam Mop. I don't have a Polti Steam mop though. I agree floors can and will harbor bacteria. I was far more concerned with the floors when I had crawling babies than I am now. I do want to test how long various surfaces remain bacteria free... is it 24 hours? 48? 12? Thanks for watching and commenting!
Don't the colors of the brushes represent the softness or hardness of the bristles?
For mine, they are all the same hardness. But it is possible that other models have different softness and hardness color coded bristles.
With your petri dish test, it looks like the steam cleaner only removed some of the bacteria. My suggestion (to anyone) would be to spray (with a spray bottle, not the steam cleaner itself) some tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil (both anti-bacterial) to the areas one wishes to target when cleaning. Spraying down the areas with those essential oils (with a spray bottle first), followed by a hot jet of steam from the Bissel steam cleaner ought to really remove the bacteria better.

Does it say you can use vinegar or other cleaner withour voiding warranty?
Hi there! In the manual for my Bissell steam cleaner it says "Never put descaling, aromatic, alcoholic, detergent, or vinegar products into the steam cleaner, as this may damage it or make it unsafe for use." I personally would not add anything except water to the steam cleaner. Do you have a steam cleaner? Do you like it?
People forget the fact the steam clean is just the first part you still have to clean the areas after. If you dont want to use chemicals make a vinegar cleaner with a essential oil.
Good points! Some people clean first and finish with steam.. others steam then finish with a cleaner... But for my channel in most circumstances I test one product at a time. I do have some tests on Vinegar and essential oils you might like!

How hot does the steam in this specific steamer get
I just got it. The light goes on and off. Didn't have as much steam as yours. Having problem turning screw on and off. I think it might be defective and asking walmart to replace. How do you know when there's no water.
ok. so the screw cap can be and should be tight, I have to press my lid down to unscrew. I assume there is no more water in it after I have used it for a while and the steam gets weaker and weaker until no more. Sorry you are having problems with it.
Could we not mix vinegar into the water solution?
The manufacturer states to only use water in the machine. All I ever use in my steamer is water. 😊

I use alcohol after This steamer is the start to get grim off ~I give it a 10! since it would take all day of scrubbing to do what this does in 15 minutes you have to move it slow but sink would need the brush and several cleanings 2=4 on first go around ...so after you clean then try cleaning regularly and then try your test since your house looks grimy honey!!!! I'm a clean specialist in grime!!!

I want this steamer. I used to use Shark steamers but they break so quickly and all of a sudden stop working.
I had both a shark steam mop and handheld steamer that lasted about 10 years. We replaced with this Bissell and the inexpensive Shark Steam mop. I will do a review on that sometime. I wonder if you have hard water causing it to clog? I enjoy using steamers! Thanks for watching!!
I have very sensitive ears and it wasn’t loud to me. Instructions also say clean the area first. So if your area is filthy, well it’s going to take scrubbing definitely first. This cleaner is not meant for months and months of crud.

Have you released all the pressure after it is cool? Sometimes I have to press down and turn.. Or give Bissell Customer Service a call, I am sure they can walk you through it!
Bad burn! I have burnt myself too and I know how it feels. Yeah, that is one tool I wouldn’t Let a child use without very close supervision. I have a handheld and canister steamer. The canister one has even hotter steam! Be very careful using any steamer products.
This is a tool most certainly not a toy, so most certainly should not be used by children.
Good old Ajax and commit still wins.

I do not like the small water capacity, it’s only 6oz and the cord is too long! It’s almost like the length of cord is for a large project but the water amount is for a small cleaning area. I wonder what the designer was thinking.
YES! It is a small capacity and the cord is one I would expect for a vacuum cleaner! HA!
@@FieldOfFocus I love how you test products and call it like it is. There was mention of a small area and then you pointed to a toilet handle. I didn’t get small area until I saw the handle. Yikes! I wasn’t using mine properly. When I saw the length of the cord, I started going all around this big bathroom but I wasn’t spending 20 seconds in any one spot. Thanks again and please keep doing more videos! 👌

Looking @ the massive amount of bacteria on the "B" side should tell u the "A" side required more steam. It wasn't fair that u used the steamer 4 20sec on each side. U should have done @ least 40sec on the "A" side.
So I didn't know there would be that much bacteria on A, there was no way to know that. I was following the manufactures guidelines for sanitizing. So if I used it for 40 seconds that wouldn't be what the manufacture says you need. I can do some more tests where I increase the time of steam! It would be interesting to see if 40 seconds works!
@@FieldOfFocus I guess I was paying attention when u read the manufacturer info, but thanks, 4 even considering what I said. I, too think the results should be shown individually, showing "A" 1st, then "B" 2nd. I think the bacteria results would give the steamer a better assessment.

I’m trying to figure out how to disinfect baby toys even stuffed animals without chemicals. I have a hand steamer but it’s not a good one and has no attachments just four holes about half inch apart. And doesn’t shoot out at all like you have to touch the item almost for it to get hot hot. So I’m looking for something and don’t trust the UV technology. I know most stuff I can wash but I’m looking for a way to disinfect stuff like a playmat and the toys hanging…jumper and toys hanging, playpen stuff like that. Anyone know of chemical free way to truly disinfect such things easily like every other day fairly quickly?
You could try vinegar or vinegar and dish soap, Force of Nature... I am going to test just the sun shine once it gets sunny here (been raining or cloudy for month!).. I think I would use Force of Nature on things I was unable to wash.. check out the vinegar and force of nature videos..

Steam cleaning only disinfects if you leave it for 3-10 minutes on each square inch of surface.
I was following the manufactures guidelines in their instructions. I do think the steam needs to be held longer for some surfaces which makes it not the best choice for anyone looking for a quick sanitize!
