Nice comprehensive review, Eric. While you allude to it at the end, I think discussion of the price and cost:price ratio is an important part of reviews for items in the >$1000 price range.
For rugs gonto local hw store, buy double sided carpet tape. install it all along the bottom sides of the rugs so they stay in place.
Great review. Has anyone used it on tiled floors. The 2 storey home we are renting is all tile.
Do you recommend buying any accessories with it, like extra brushes or filters?
better alternative:S7MaxV.
better cleaning performance, especially on carpet (how ironic)
has a color camera that you can view away from home
removable mopping tank and mopping plate (you cant remove them on s8 pro ultra)
and comes for a cheaper price.
Edit: if you don’t want the color camera, get S7 Max ultra. Same features, with a camera that isn’t colored

weirdly enough for RobomateTV review the S8 pro destroyed the maxv on carpet for pet hair
@@xeon2k8 I think it's hard to get consistency in these tests. Not all pet hair is the same-some is thinner, fluffier, clumpier, etc.
From all I've seen, the S8 does a *little* better overall with most pet hair because of the dual rollers, but not much. In contrast, it does worse in deep cleaning carpets and on hardwood due to its lower airflow.
For me personally, even having pets, I'd rather my vac be better at getting the deepest debris out of carpets than surface debris-the latter will come up with a few cycles.
@@xeon2k8 more like the pet hair destroyed the rollers in the S8. Gets dangled in the two rollers.
Since you have the view of your home while S7 maxV provides it to you, then you should know that it is NOT only you who's watching your house, your kids, your privacy right right?
How hard or difficult will it be to clean the base? Do you even have to clean the base besides rinsing the dirty mouth water container?

Roborock sells it for about $710 USD in mainland China (the model is called G20 which is same as S8 pro ultra in US). It is very overpriced.
exactly!! I guess they tried to offset the taxes, hefty import, transportation cost..etc
@@jpthsd Definitely, there will be some overhead cost to sell it here. But when using Ecovas DEEBOT X1 OMNI as an example, the price difference between US and mainland China is much smaller.

@@EricWelander Good video. It will be great if the review also includes the price and the customer service. In terms of price, how it compares with other robot vacuum cleaners in the same tier. In terms of customer service, if a thing is broken within the warranty period, does Roborock honors it without too much hassle.
I live in China. I compared the G20 with the S8. The design of the docking station is different. Perhaps the build quality for export is higher than for local market. That’s what’s happening with cars. But I don’t know if this is the case.
Get two sided tape and put it under your rugs so it doesn't flip it over
I have the S7 MaxV Ultra. I was considering upgrading to the 8, but really feel it is not that much of an upgrade, I’ll wait for the next one.
Curious why you feel the need to even upgrade the S7 MaxV Ultra? It checks all the boxes.
@@JonathanRootD That is a fair question, the reason is the dual-vibrating mop heads. 95% of my home is wood floors and while the 7 does an OK job of mopping, I though maybe (hoping) the 8 would be an improvement (significant improvement) in cleaning ability, but it doesn’t appear so.
I agree the vibrating mop is nice for wood floors but yeah I don’t think it’s work the upgrade from an S7 series (but I haven’t used an S7 series myself)
Some Design flaws a 2year old would make. Shame!!! Trouble with some Chinese stuff it’s made for Chinese market and therefore not the same as other markets!!!!

@@sdcoinshooter Haha. Nah, I love smart home tech and I have a bunch of these devices! But just sometimes the thought pops up in the back of my head that things are a little off. 😂 It is kinda sus that so many of the devices that detect presence, open doors, and map out your house, etc. are made by CCP-backed Chinese companies. Lol.
What can china do with that data? Unless you're in mainland China, you're fine.
it is ok for some robot with only LiDAR navigation, avoidance system with LidAR ,,,some of us are so naive and excited to have a robot having full RBG video camera running around watching the house stuffs LoL ...they do not know it is not ONLY them who's watching those,,,someone else are watching theirs too....since when the privacy is not a private anymore!
