It’s come a very long way from being a gimmick and has serious professional use cases. Excellent breakdown and tests CVP, your coverage is superior to the others I've watched today shot at the release event. In today's episodic/documentary/corporate production environment of doing more with less, it'll be interesting to see how the market responds to a camera in this price range. I give Sony props for AF, VND, IBIS and E-Mount on a camera like this, that is unprecedented, well done and for what the camera delivers spec-wise, it seems like a good value, I just don't know if people will drop $30k with accessories on a camera that isn't really designed for features/narrative/crewed production. Time will tell.
I give Sony a "What were you thinking?" on the EVF mess and the lack of open gate. Third party solutions from Zacuto or others will mitigate the terrible monitor/EVF setup, to a point but when we can buy a $2,000 Lumix S5 II X or a $2,500 XH-2S with 6.2k open gate, there is no excuse for not including it on this camera.

What a perfect camera! Thank you for such a comprehensive review so early!
I hope they won't have any stock issues as they had with FX6. I'm really looking forward to buy it as soon it become available for purchase.
I wanted to ask you in which format did you shoot 8k when you tested rolling shutter performance at 13:40? Was it RAW X-OCN or h.265?
Because it looks like it has ±8 ms rolling shutter, when Venice 2 has ±3 ms which is in line with Sony 1 in photo mode.
There's an argument that RAW uses much less processing power that's why it can output video with such low rolling shutter.
I wonder perhaps it becomes higher if you start shooting in h.265.
    Thank you!

I was just talking to someone about when Sony will come out with a "Mini Venice" and this is exactly it. Having shot a lot on Venice, 6k is more then enough for most projects. S35 mode allows for higher framerates and use of your vintage glass. Plus, it works with standard 12v batteries that are easily accessible.
My gripes as an AC are that the viewfinder is trash, and I'll miss the screens on the side of the camera. Even an express screen like the A35 on the assistant side would have been nice. Not much real estate to mount things like Teradek's/ MDR's on, but a plate can fix that soon hopefully.
All-in-all, a very impressive camera, with tons of options!

Looks nice but also looks to have a lot of the usual Sony cine frustrations:
    - Weird limitations on 24.000P
    - Nothing taller than 16:9 (even in crop modes) despite using a 3:2 sensor
    - Outdated or cheap accessory design choices that are out of place on a £21K+ CineAlta camera
    - And of course, the jumbled menus & missing firmware features.
It's really frustrating how determined Sony are to make a great camera and immediately shoot themselves in the foot. As an FX6 owner/op, the Burano just looks to be a more expensive way of getting the same frustration (even though I really love the image and versatility from both). Ultimately these things are what pushed me to Arri instead. Disappointing that they couldn't bring over more of what makes the Venice such a great package.

@@avx111 Assuming you're using it professionally, its more affordable than it looks initially. A good deal on a second hand unit + income from renting it out + marketing value that comes with owning an Alexa (either for rental or for clients) + resale value when you eventually move on can all be used to bring the true cost down dramatically. There's a good video by Blaine Westropp on it if you're interested.
Buying an Alexa/Amira won't magically bring you more jobs, but "this is the same camera most blockbuster movies are shot on" is a nice marketing point to throw around.

When the Venice 2 came out, I made a comment on the CVP post about how disappointed I was when it lacked the game changing Electronic Variable ND filters, mainstream media cards, 8k slow motion at 75fps and Sony's excellent auto focus. This is the camera I was actually looking for. From price point, features and body shape, it's the perfect camera for Cinema and Documentary work.
The motion picture landscape has evolved to such a point that a camera must be capable of being modified to fit any job at hand. Be it a full crew or a solo shooter. The same camera needs to work for whatever job it's being used for.

Have you seen the recent Burano footage from other DPs and directors on YT? We have to consider the post production pipeline and the colorist/editor work too. The Burano footage I've seen hold up very well to the Venice 2 imo. Alexa35 is definitely next level, but you're paying nearly triple the price. You can do a lot with X-OCN LT and here in NYC, I see plenty of Venice and Alexa shooters sharing subpar looking footage because their post production is lacking.

How was the functionality of the control grip with the return to the LANC connector? One of the great user improvements from the FS7 to FX9 was moving the latter to a mico-USB; particularly the speed and control of the placement of the viewing field for image magnification in the viewfinder. FS7 lanc was so slow it was basically unusable in run and gun shooting. The FX9 USB -though a giant pain in the ass to plug in at setup- was super responsive.

Whenever 16-bit linear is discussed in one of these videos, it would helpful to mention that it's the same as 12-bit log. There is slightly more information in 16-bit linear, but it is in areas imperceptible and not useful in post. 12-bit gets you identical color in a smaller space. This is a confusing point to many people who think 16-bit linear is better than 12-bit log simply because it's a bigger number and/or it's linear.

      @Mionwang 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@winterkat8693 no, red somehow managed to patent internal compressed raw. I don't know precisely what constitutes that since the patent itself was very vague. But brands like blackmagic got around that patent by partially debayering in camera before the raw compression. That said, I've worked with plenty of X-OCN footage and it's definitely my favorite raw codec, on par with B-raw.
