Ah, that was exactly the question I wanted to ask. I've recently acquired a 3 camera setup consisting of Lumix S5, and I was wondering if renting out a couple of rigged cameras for indie projects would make sense to offset the costs, but I'm afraid to rent it out without me being present. I realize that accidents do happen and I myself recently dropped my 50mm and broke a UV filter.

My old reel from my 5D mkii is actually great. Because color correction was unforgiving you had to light it perfect and make it look great in camera.
More forgiving cameras created some unprofessional habits I had to undo.
Currently I shoot on the FX3 & Venice 2. The Venice spoils you so much that convenience of the FX3 isn’t as impressive anymore and I will use the Venice for pickup shots that the FX3 would be perfectly acceptable for.

outstanding video mate !!! Without a doubt the sony venice is an amazing camera the specs are off the walls everything you mentioned is spot on i had the opportunity to play withit in myself at my buddies studio an loved it i wanted to rent it for the week lol But what blew me away even more was comparing the venice to the fx3 with a full frame 35mm anamorphic lens. i shot the same shots with both cameras and shot the fx3 in S log and i seriously couldnt tell them both apart im a editor who color grades in davinci studio and after nailing some great compositions at night and day i realized after slapping my sd card into davinci and doing some complex grades it looked exactly the same sure your going to need to tweek a few things more on the fx3 but i came to realize that with compared to the venice 2 and the Red Monstro putting these cameras all to the test you can achieve the same look as these high end cameras im super excited to see where these cameras will be in 5 more years from now there getting smaller and smaller

Venice is one of the best all around cinema cameras ever created, that thing will be used prominently for the next 5 years and I'm sure well beyond that. Even with the Venice 2, which only made it better, I still get on more jobs requesting Venice 1 due to lower data rates since the image is still incredible. Every time I use it I consider buying one haha. And those 8 stops of ND are so underrated. Honestly weight aside I think it's actually the perfect camera for Indie / lower budget productions because of all of the ergonomic and imaging benefits.

    • @space_1073
      @space_1073 ปีที่แล้ว

I think at this point in history cameras are pretty much plateaued in increasing image quality. I doubt the venice will be obsolete in a very long time, the only people who seem to care are gear heads, not clients lol.

No matter your skill level, it starts with asking yourself what your time is worth per hour. Would you get out of bed to do a job for $50/hr and be happy? Or would you need $100/hr to make it worthwhile for you? Then look at competitors in your area/market to see what they're charging, to gauge if your numbers seem realistic or competitive.

The amount of wasted money spent on new camera gear just because it is new, could finance a million indie films. I'll never understand people who have to have the newest thing instead of investing that money into actors or crew. Gian did the best thing anyone can do, this camera won't be outdated in 30 years, camera image quality has essentially plateaued.

Do you think you are going to be able to recover your money investment with all the other cameras around?

Any wisdom as how to over come this camera bias that people seem to have.
When I show people what I have shot with it they all comment how good the image looks UNTIL they find out its 1080p and then they either can’t believe the C100 can look that good or that they just need 4 k

No don't plan to own the camera because by the time you fully own this camera, it won't be worth anything due to obsolesce. Take your yearly profits then flip your Venice when the time comes. In this way, you are spreading out your ownership over multiple cameras, but while still taking profits each year.

    • @space_1073

I don't think cameras that are good today will ever be obsolete again. Camera image quality is essentially plateaued at this point, you have to pay exponentially more for the tiniest increase in quality at this point.

Realizing cameras like the FX3 are used on Hollywood films - I wouldn't even bother with such massive cameras anymore.
They're slower to work with, capable of less, and require more money to actually use.
Plus, AI is capable of doing so much where cameras won't even be necessary!
Age old wisdom applies: _invest in lenses, not cameras_

Part of being a freelancer is looking professional and having what looks like professional gear. Gian ain't shooting Hollywood movies, he's competing for jobs, and people who don't understand cameras are gonna pick him over anyone with an fx3 any day.
